  Deva is the only true servitor of Music. Who else can bring carnatic ragas to the masses? Mos of his ghanas are based on Sindhubhairavi ragam. Can IR or ARR compose a dappanguthu in any of the ragas..??
  
  For people who don't have the chance to see a movie like Titanic, he brought the background soundtrack in the movie 'Priyamudan". Enne Sevai! Enne Thondu!!
  
  If IR is portrayed to be a yogi, Deva is the master of all renunciants. He has the best quality.. being senseless to the surroundings and accusations. He is the true follower of Bhagavad Gita. Just like a tortoise bringing its limbs inside and covers itelsf with the shell, Deva avoids any kind of sensory reactions to the wild accusations that he is a copycat, and continues his job..sorry divine job.

  Don't rubbish Deva guys. HE's a slogger. The man has fought every inch of the way to reach here. His music has enormous range and diversity. Forget what he lifts. Everyone does. Have you listened to IR's "Kanavu kaanum kangal yaavum.." in Niingal Keetavai? It is lifted from a song in Upkaar (Starring Manoj Kumar with the great Kalyanji Anandji's music from the late 1960s).
  
  Deva's Annamalai and Keeravaani's Vaaname Ellai is what paved the way for ARR's hurricane entrance with Roja that Vaigaasi Porandaachu is a classic.
  
  Gimme the opening percussion ensemble in "Naan autokkaran.." in Badshah or "Pulveli.." in Aasai or "Kavalai padaada sahodara..". Let the guy compose whenever he wants to and not be forced to fill in for the role that IR used to play-churning out mindless mush like "ennamma kannu.." and you will see even better stuff coming out. And Deva is the Gaana man. Urban grunge of TN.

This site has an over-abundance of IR fans, and we really, really don't like ARR or Deva and their music.   I dont mind Deva lifting the music from others as long as it is good to listen. But I think he should have the modesty to accept that. May be he can add a line at the end of the movie/casette say song inspiration: (orignal track) Yesterday was listening to Buffalo soldier..man I should say he is better than a xerox machine...even those "cha..cha cha cheecha.." has been copied.

  I read the news that the audio of "Kadal Pookal" has been released. Atleast not for Deva, I have a strong faith in the music extraction capabilities of Barathiraja. Did anyone have a chance to listen to the ablum? Comments/reviews would be appreciated.

  yes, deva is definitely a better music director. better in many ways, although he is a copycat he copies them and presents them beautifully which most of the MDs in India lack except a very few. Nowhere in this response I'm going to compare deva with the genius IR or a great ARR. But given his style he is far far far far better than MDs like SAR and other thagaradappa MDs. Be it copy or not see the richness in many of his films re-recording, songs when compared to a jarring useless lala..la...laa..la..laa of SAR and a stereotypic violin of many Hindi movies MDs. Many of Deva's songs are classical based, eg. a dabbanguthhu (a.k.a ghana) like 'udayam theatre-la' is based on a rich carnatic raaga. Here he shows his potential. Definitely Deva is an appreciable MD in TFM, if not as a great or as a genius.

  I agree. Deva does have his good ones coming occasionally. Plus if you take any countdown show in tamil, 75% of the songs would be Deva's. Regardless of the validity of such shows or the position where his songs appear - this in itself an acheivement!
  
  But unfortunately this forum is getting dangerously on the verge of being cliched to its limits. Every damn topic automatically steers towards the absolute supremacy (or the lack of it, if somebody claims otherwise!) of Ilayaraja or how A R Rahman sucks big time. Sad.
  
  Good to know that Deva has a positive thread here!

  Iam a hardcore deva fan. Whenever I listen to him, I have goosebumps all over my body. Sometimes I have to undress myself to see where all the goosebumps form. You dont need a 6-CD changer to listen to an assortment of songs, they are all there in deva's compositions. Isnt that great?!!!! His songs (I keep telling all my friends) deserve a grammy, but everyone laughs at me!
  For example take "Vandhenda paal kaaren" song...what a melody and wonderful "jungle" beats!! Even african rythms dont have such a wonderful rythming as deva's. Innum narayya sollalaam.
  Anyway, manithar unarndukkola idhu manidha music illa, ahayum thaandi punthamanathu
