I think the MD should realise their greatest mistake ever in their career is not using SPB for atleast two songs in a film!, but they instead use the bathroom singers like Hariharan, Shanker, Udit & srinivas!
These bathroom singers sing with nose, they are known as nasalists legends in the west, I do not know how you call them in India, I feel pity for the indian crowds who once had greats like, SPB,KJY,TMS,PS,SJ,PS,Ghantasala,Jeyachandran to have this nasalists dominating this tamil cinema now!
There is this rumour that ARR & Deva(should not even mention his name here)used SPB in their initial movies to get place in Tamil Cinema, once they have achieved this, they were a bit worried, if they carry on using SPB for all songs that he will take a large propotion of their credit, hence they do not use him, i totaly agree with this!

SPB had already gone beyound M.rafi status years ago!, Did not you know that SPB posses more awards than any other singer in India! & he also broke the world record for singing more than 40,000 songs in his 35 year service in IFM!

Such a outburst from Raghu+SL+DeadTamizan, when i said something on SPB.
Guys even i regard him as one of the best in south. But i have tried in( god knows how many )different polite ways in this tamil forum before to tell people that you can discuss your favourite artist without degrading others who have had great impact in some other region.
But no one listens. Just like you even others get affected when their favourites are made fun off. Hope u understand now.And i am not requesting something illogical.
Most people in north wont even think of SPB when asked to tell their favorite.
Of course it holds the other way round also.
I have said before and someone else emphasised it,unless you are adept at a language you cant reach the listerner whatever skills you have.
Among male singers Kishore and Rafi have held the north under their cast just like SP has done in the south (except yesu's land). What you grow up listening to, decides your perpective whether you buy this arg or not.Ther was a SP+son concert in IIT campus. SP was singing many of his tamil jewels but a sizeable crowd was shouting for hindi songs.People want to listen to only what they like.
When these singers dont affect/impact other's territory, why make tall claims and at the same time degrade others.
Sheer singing talent wise none of these would be anywhere near lata(not the lata today).
Statement like "north lacks talents" from Raghu :god u guys are real knowledgable.
Watch Saptaswarangal,Padutha Thiyaga and compare with Saregama or Meri Aawaz suno or the bengali ETV pgm on weekends (there are more).
Maybe the southy talents are hidden at homes bcos most cases even the second round participants in the northy show sing better than the finalists of Saptaswarangal/PT. The only southy show which matches these is the malayalam one conducted by SreeKumar.I feel silly making such comparisons but then when you make generalized statements like "north lacks talent" i need to put things in place.Watch boogie woogie on Sony and compare with any other dance show. What talent are you talking about?

Nobody (atleast none of the serious posters) made fun of Rafi or KK. They have both been granted their due respect.
Most people in north wont even think of SPB when asked to tell their favorite
That is NOT a function of SPB's talents. It is a general lack of awareness among north Indians and general apathy towards things associated with southern India. On the contrary, South has, despite vociferous protests, accepted North Indian culture and language (Hindi) as mainstream. Which is why you will find a SPB or KJY gracefully singing a Hindi song in a live show, despite being aware of their limitations (in terms of exposure to culture). It is the lesser fans amongst us, who will still continue to nitpick on their accents and sangadhis, and will choose to ignore their sincere and alternative attempt at a 'foreign' culture. If you want to further elaborate that SPB, KJY and the like should master Hindi and Hindi culture, then I suggest that you go through the discussions in the forumhub and air your opinions there.
Some people have the capacity and capability to remove the "noise" in analysis - noise like language, # of people covered, # of sangams in their name, # of publicity quotes, etc - and still manage to objectively think and present a clinical crique on the play back singing talents of various artists.
I don't need to know 'chusth Urdu' or 'athi shudhdh Hindi' to conclude that Udit Narayan is a sucky singer, and while I am at it, to remove all doubt, an absolutely sucky playback singer. His Hindi actually covers up his musical deficiency from shining through. :-)

Ram, now, you have not even understood the reason for the so called outburst. You are free to think that SPB is inferior to x & y, your opinions, but do not quote others like Manna Dey or Raju Bharathan or whoever in your support. That betrays the obvious. Moreover, your's was just a knee-jerk reaction and the posting lacked in anything close to any objective analysis. It was quite obvious that your intentions were only to fanatically defend your opinions when you came up with an insipid rebuttal to my 'sorgam madhuvilE' example. The very fact that it has a melancholic shade to it, adds to the difficulty in rendering the song. That was my whole point. Certainly more difficult to render than 'chchalkayE jhAm' that has been praised to the skies by Mr.Swami.
I was not bringing down Rafi (who is one of my favorites), but merely countering point by point, what I thought was Mr. Swami's clever way of projecting his idol.

RajaG,
Why do you think Udit is such a "sucky playback" singer even in Hindi? Do you find a glaring or even subtle flaws in his singing? Could you please elaborate (on his Hindi songs only pls)? Being untrained in classical music, I am not able to discern them.

There is doubt about the extreme talent of SPB. Every cat has its talent. And also every Cat has its day.
Time and again SPB mesmorises me with the beauty of his voice, the latest to the tune of ARR in Star. At the same time he is also off-key stuffs which diminishes his greatness.
The beauty of SPB is his High base voice. But High base voice alone is not great.
The other variations are equally admirable.
If we understand and appreciate, I guess we can all enjoy. It is that simple.

Hello jeeva;
>>The beauty of SPB is his High base voice. But High base voice alone is not great.
<<
Could you pls clarify the above phrase, in other words you are saying that SPB is lacking in something, if you could prove it to me that he lacks something, then we can argue.
thanx

jeeva
Although spb's bass is the heaviest among other male singers, he is also superb at high notes("ettank kattai"), I can list a few songs from his ocean of songs.
1) "manicka venna ", from shankaraparanam
2) "Shankaraa", from Shankaraparanam
3) "tere mere beechu me kesa haiya", from ek duche kilye
4) "naanum unthan oravai" from mythili ennai kadhali
5) "unnai partha pinbu naan" from khadal mannan
6) "satham illatha thanimai" from amarkalam.
I can go further, but no time!
