Illayraja was rated highly. because he had the ability to give compose more than few good songs in a single movie. I didn't go for the 3 or more good songs scale as this page won't be enough. He did most of these works in 80s some in late 70s. I might have left out a few.

  I am sure there is lot more. I think all moves IR did for rajini, mohan, barathi raja, manivannan, mahendren and balachander were big hits. Did you really think that you could list them all?

  For those of you who have not heard these, surely you are missing some of the sweetest melodies. I would strongly recommend to have the songs from these movies recorded and listen. You would not probably disagree with me that each has atleast 4 songs that each of which you would want to hear again, probably many times.
  
  I would think that careful search/recollection including those in 70s and 80s would probably make the list to 100, meaning that atleast about 400 songs...I can't simply resist saying VOW..amazing when you think about IR !!!

  Uthaman, if it is 70s and 80s films you are looking for, then Chembaruthi, Gopura Vaasalile, Ejamaan, and Idhayam cannot be a part of the list because... these are all films of the 90s.

  Thanikkaattu Raja-- though I didn't like all the songs, there are four irresistable numbers (Koovungal Seyvazhgale, Raasaave Unnai Naan, Santhana Kaatre, and Mullai Arumbe).
  
  Mr. Bhaarath-- I think there are 4 songs in the film, and according to me, all are quite catchy.
  
  Netrikann-- as I stated in another thread, songs are hip and fresh.

  Ilam Pani Thulir vidum neram (outstanding-discussed in this forum adinfintum)

  Oru Kunghumachengamalam..(classic with just few instruments..!)

  (3)Magane Magane:-
  Mallihai Poovukkul..(outstanding)
  Magane Ilam Magane..
  Mathu Malargale...(classic)
  Per Solla vantha pillai (amazing P Suseela)
  
  So you see I do not write here free wheeling...!
  
  I would stringly recommend you to listen and comment..Especially you should listen to Mallihai Poovukkul.. This has a totally unconvetional rhythm and I am still amazed how IR created this piece.
  
  They may be hard to find these days..but truly amazing songs. I literally hunted them a few years ago at various recording shops and have them now.

  There was this obscure film towards late eighties, which was probably never released. I just heard a couple of songs in the Vividh Bharti programme that used to be given (10 minute slots after 9PM). Cant remember now but remember beig impreseed then. Never heard them or even heard about the movie again!

  I asked, because at raajangham.com, if you look at the database of IR's songs, it says 'Aarathanai' has only 3 songs, and 'Magane Magane' only 2. I just wanted to check out what it was that the site was missing. :-))

  good input. I was thinking of including 'Kallukkul Eeram' in my list, but i wasn't sure, as i hadn't heard all 4 songs.
  Are you sure about 'Sigappu Rojakkal?' I thought the film had just 2 songs (Ninaivo Oru Paravai and Intha Minminukku).
  Also, I don't know about 'Ingeyum Oru Gangai.' I found that other than 'Solai Pushpangale' all songs are either okay or not good.
  Anyway, it's your opinion, so i wouldn't want to put you down for your beliefs (you see that all the time in this forum, in the countless IR vs. ARR battle threads). :-)
  
  btw, have any of you guys included 'Ilamai Kalangal?' It had some irresistable songs in it such as 'Paada Vandhadho Gaanam', 'Raaghavane Ramanaa', 'Padippille Hero', etc.
  How about 'O Maane Maane' (another IR-Mohan combo)?

  got a MP-3 cd when I went to India-20 of IR's recent movies upto Ivann.
  The songs from Dharma and manam virumbudhe unnai are too good.when were these films released and who were the stars?
  Dharma-Iru kangal,sembaruthi,manakkum-fab songs.Must for SPB fans.

  The above numbers are far better than many of the 'hits' nowadays.
