6 Songs : Mind Blowing!!
Source :HinduTimes

Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

Here is an excerpt from that review
"The best song in the album is probably "Sandai Kozhi". Madhushree has a slight nasal twang that goes well with the song, which has a lovely, free-flowing alap in the background by A.R. Rahman. The song does exude a certain rusticity, but it is contrived. None perhaps can match Ilaiyaraja's treatment of folk tunes."
Sandai Kozhi patu will be sung by the wife of a dada. Not a Mrs Vevasayi.

"There isn't an organic score for any of the songs. Rahman fans may bristle on my verdict: but the music is disappointing"
Still i hold my opinion that it is a good album not a gr8 album like MEENAXI!!
This might be a dumb question, pardon my ignorance, when is the movie releasing btw?

I wonder how stupid ppl like D.G. (the reviewer) get a job for a national newspaper like The Hindu.
Instead of reviewing the album, he/she keeps on saying how good Illayaraja's music was :)

Yes The Hindu did write both kinds of reviews for AE
as confused as their leftist reporting is! More reasons to believe there is no objective journalism in India. All papares either hate BJP to the core or love them so much. No middle line.

Yeah that's accepted....Mani Ratnam this time wants his movie to be a commercial hit..what else can be the reason, one can't resort to 'Oru deuvam thantha poove..' for making the movie hit, given the present tastes of the public.Mani has learnt his lesson. So what's wrong when the sound track meets the expectations of the movie's theme,a composer can't simply derive tunes Raagas, use swaras jus because he knows them all,if the Dir is not demanding it.Got it?

Yes Dandannaka,
That can't be considered as a review at all,a review should be unbiased and should be more objective.but that largely appears as a opinion of a IR fanatic(not a fan, because real fans will be more objective like me:-) on a Rahman album, and safely this time, the album is mediocre(one knows the reason very well, the movie's theme).
The Hindu first needs to learn a lot about the difference between Reviewing and a wayward opinion.Idhu kooda theriyaama those guys scream as India's National Newspaper blah, blah.
If you read, the film reviews by Malathi Rangarajan in their Friday Reviews, one can see the bias...
she will go overboard and praise even substandard tunes of IR(instance is Pithamagan, where IR clearly rehashed, nothing else),will praise Vidya sagar for his dubba tunes in 'Varna jaalam',Ramesh vinayaakam' for his mediocre 'Nala Damayanthi',but the same reviewer will just mention that the tunes 'Azhagiya cinderella',Anarkali,Enuyir thozhi aremelodious as if she is doing it for the heck of doing it...bull*shit.

Ambleen,Let me know one thing...What's the 'Fake' wisdom with which i came in...
I guess,in your opinion it must be my liking for IR's music...
Now you call it fake because of my posting where i have mentioned IR has rehashed.
I express it this I am a fan of IR,i needn't deny it anywhere, but that doesn;t mean hating Rahman, degrading him for a 'messup',its unfortunate,a i feel bad abt it,where you celebrate it like anything...I would have done the same thing if it happens to IR's concert(don't say that the Maestro will never faulter and all that stuff).
If Wisdom is all about being saddist, getting immense pleasure on seeing a man's slip.then choose to remain without it.Still i feel hurt when somebody degrades IR's masterpieces, but am not a fanatic to praise the substandars of Raja, when i think he is capable of giving much more.

means i would have felt bad,as i do now for Rahman.
