Day Dreams or Bombay dreams

  This is one awful music by an MD can come up with.
  Shakalaka baby in English!! Ooh lala in English! Rangeela in English!! God saves Indian music. It is pathetic on the part of Andrew Webber to choose ARR as his MD. I couldn't stand his music. There is no grace no elegance. 'Monsoon Wedding' audio CD was in the top 5 selling Album all over US. Even though i find it amusing because all it had was traditional hindi songs. Even in the movie
  "Ghost World" they have one Mohd. Rafi song which has become so popular in U.S. In the movie Moulin Rogue 'Chamma Chamma' became a hit in U.S. It is just when they get the taste of our music they feel different. Just like our own Indians appreciate pop and R&B songs. But ARR sucks big time since he has not done anything but copied his own tunes from Hindi and translated into English. I find the music Pathetic. American women like movies that end in "wedding" and "dreams". That's why they have some name like 'Bombay Dreams'. I am sure it is a flop.
  If you want to talk about composing watch ' A Beautiful Mind '. That is one hell of a composing. Don't come up with stupid arguments like James Horner has not scored songs like 'Ooh lala' or 'Shakalaka baby' . Those songs were totally unnecessary for the movies. A composer ability is judged on his background music. Most of the young pop singers compose their own songs. They sell millions of copies. That won't make them better than music geniuses like John Williams, James Horner. ARR is good in scoring music for advertisment.

  u think scoring for advertisements is easy ?
  
  I am from the advertising field myself...I create concepts for ads...and am paid a fat salary for that...
  
  and by no way is it a easy job...
  
  u have to prove your self everytime...that is your idea has to stick in the consumer's mind the moment he sees or hears it...
  
  try creating 'cutting-edge' ads yourself and you will know the pressure one has to go through.
  
  I was in high-school when I heard the Leo Coffee jingle and it struck me (the beautiful mix of thavil, synth bass and veena). remember wondering why IR cannot do such electronic fusion...I didnt know anything about advertising then.
  
  Sadly, advertising is a much misunderstood field in India. Not many people know about the hard-work and the creative and talented people behind it all. I am speaking of sophisticated ads and not the local ones that you see or hear on TV and radio.

  I am also in the Marketing field in the US. I have worked on numerous campaigns with ad companies working with me to produce numerous TV and radio campaigns. The major work in an advertising campaign is the positioning, the strategy, the developments of storyboards etc. All the rest including the jingles are lower in priority and actually no big deal. There are plenty of folks who do a great job with jingles...I can only view it as ignorance if you are trying to convey that IR is inferior because someone else did a jingle to your liking.

  i used to be in the marketing field. (what a time! but, one has to come out of child' play) but, i also tried to get into advertising because my uncle told me only talented people like him could do copyrights. others like 'me and all' read the copyright and buy the stuff... but....
  
  i feel that world is like doing skits in culturals.... being clever is the word.
  
  (folks, that is my biased side. just don't take it seriously. yes, i agree that advertising is misunderstood. it is a simple job, but made complex by stupid ideas of presentation. the essence is simplicity and if you can achieve that then you've done it. simple copyright, simple visuals, then again a catchy tune can offset any deficiencies or the inherent pretenses.) BTW, the leo coffee ad was an exception. when it came out, i was wondering who is this guy with this wonderful jingle and thought it was IR doing some part-time job!
