Nandhaa (*ing Surya, Laila, Rajkiran) is the 2nd directorial venture of Bala (of "Sethu" fame). Music is by YSR.
Any idea when the music album is releasing ?

The music looks very emotional and gives a very serious mood. Must be a heavy movie from Bala i guess. And I am also sure YSR going to come up with different music then he has scored before.
The music has lot of IR touch in it.
It sounds like Panduvarali raga.

YSR in a recent interview to a Tamil Magazine said that the score will be semi-classical and folkish in nature, a genre he will be venturing out into for the first time.
He added that it was Bala, the director who insisted on IR singing the above mentioned song, and YSR reluctantly approached him. IR listened to the composition and said that it was a good tune, he would love to sing it, but jokingly commented that it had shades of some old song of his that he couldn't recollect.
YSR should be given a pat on his back for revealing this private conversation between himself and his dad.
Bala is a very creative artist and he would have extracted out some excellent work from the young lad, I guess. And from the stills of the film, (courtesy www.nandhaa.com, why the 'dhaa' when 'da' would suffice???) it looks like an intense drama that would offer tremendous scope for the MD, both in terms of song situations and also BGM.
My wish-list for YSR:
1. I just hope that YSR doesn't spoil the fun by using the urban kings and queens that think Tamil-slaugtering is hep, (a generation of voices that have mushroomed in the music scene these days), thereby spoiling good lyrics and music. The MD himself probably belongs to this category... he needs some solid advice/guidance from his dad.
2. And here's hoping that YSR realizes that those high-pitched screeches that were heard in 'Dheena' and 'Rishi' are not pleasant to the ears and ensure that they don't figure in any of his forthcoming albums.
What a pleasant song Vaseegara was, and that IMO was mainly due to the soothing low-pitched tune.
Here's hoping that Nanda is a landmark album for him.

Neels, atleast point no1 wont happen in Nandhaa I guess, considering the kind of film it is..regarding 2 he has to learn with time..kaadhal website song in Dheena was yucky..certainly Shankar Mahadevan, the national award winner, neednt sing such songs..

YSR should definitely not continue to aid and abet this thamizh kolai. Though it is not to my taste, I thought kAthal Website song was good. It had 'raw energy' and was passionately sung. IMO,I think he is different from his dad or brother who are more into soft melodies, or precisly 'tenderness' in their music.. He is probably just young :) My impression based on some interviews is that he is a very 'aggressive' dude, (this is probably what is showing up in the music). This song also had some recording gimmicks like for the part 'hardware ullAm kettup pOnathu enna' there is some artificial distortion introduced just for this section. But recording guys messed up some part a little later. This is like what ARR did for iruvar - add LP noise (like the pops and clicks you hear when you play a record) to the song to make it sound 'old'.

When Thamizh Kolai is the trend what else you expect the MD to do? Since this seems to be a semi classical film, we hope this does not happen. For Thamizh Kolai to stop, can you pls give a list of singers who should stop singing?
1) Shankar Mahadevan
2) Devan
3) Udit Narayan
4) Saadhanaa Sargam
5) Kavita Krishnamoorthy
Even HH is miserable in pronouncing Tamil properly but we can live that.
Regarding singers selection, no MD can be blamed 100% for sure. It is the director/producer who insists (based on the trend) on the new breed of singers (added to some actor's preference for singers). A young MD like YSR will have less saying in singers selection. Of course you can blame IR if he does this. For example YSR said in Nandhaa for one song, the director Baalaa wanted IR to sing tht song. And hence YSR convinced IR to sing that. Now you will guys come and say that IR should not have sung that song. We came to know this particular one from YSR's interview. I assume for other songs too, it is Baalaa's choice. Did you hear Bhavaa in Dum Dum Dum? It could be because MR stood firm ground. There are 1000 reasons and you guys are hell bend to blame it on a budding MD. Give a break sirs.

I don't know why Bala went for Yuvan in this film.
from the outline which he gave in an interview
about the film,it seems to be a heavy movie like
sethu.I doubt how far Yuvan can do justice to the
Songs and especially, the BGM.i don't think he can
give a BGM any near in quality to that of sethu.
In my opinion Bala should have had IR as the MD.
I'am not degrading YSR but expressing just my
opinions.Yuvan's BGMs were not at all anywhere near the quality of his father's in his previous
ventures.

STS,
Did you hear Bhavaa in Dum Dum Dum?
Bhava is in 'suttrum bhoomi' for few seconds.

Analog,
This is a news to me. It was sung by Harini. If you mean to say Harini sounds like Bhava, I fully agree.

STS,
No, I did not mean that. Bhava has sung for couple of seconds in that song. Listen carefully to this line 'pagaliravap paakkaama pakkaththil iruppaa'. The voice sounds like Bhava's to me.

I suppose you are having auditory hallucinations! There is no trace of Bhava anywhere in that song.

Vijay,
Go to Raaga.com and listen to the clip from 3:47 to 3:51. Doesn't it sound like Bhava's? I have the CD with me and I am sure that's she.

I agree with Analog. I thot the same thing when I heard the song first. Bhava is 100% in the song. Moreso 'cos Harini has never sounded so bad as she does in the 3:47 to 3:51 part! :-)

Just happened to see the nandhaa site. Music sounds very very promising. Hope this would be another quality album by YSR like Poovellam Kettuppar and not like Dheena.

Nalla velai.. Thank God. I didn't act in this movie. Poor Surya wasted his energy. Sorry... Surya better luck next time. Next time better ask story and screenplay before acting any movies like me.
Now everybody knows that why I rejected this movie.

Thaths,
Is it really you ? I don't think any producer will call his movie 'Azugaip padam' that too within one week of its release ! I saw your name in the titles as Assosiate director, So I bet you know very well about the movie storyline and details and I believe it is not the same thaths,
Anyway, The movie is very good ! I liked it very much ! YSR's music was wonderful ! Rajkran's characterisation is very realistic ! I am wondering why Dr. Sivaji Ganesan refused to act in this movie :-(
