C-P, I heard the rap during the earlier ads on tv. pretty cool and RK carried it off. But RK looked quite aged in the ads.
I'll definitelty post my review here once I get to watch the movie this Sunday.

when fan base in TN,magazines say the movie is no good and people are committing suicide over quality of songs, you people will go on and on as to how good baba is and the whole world is just denying the fact.
here in the forum we have two sets of fans trying to prop baba-arr fans who cannot accept the music is average and RK fans who cannot and will not accept that the movie is a flop.(I personally liked the movie-you must view it as a fantasy which is what it is-our indian audience will accept movies like harry potter and LOTR as long as it is in an alien language). It is these 2 groups who are trying to build a sort of 'superior'groups, whose tastes in music and film,ahem....,we are led to beleive, is far superior.
dont worry guys,as usual, live your eternal day dream and keep hoping.
dictionary(revised)eternal optimist- someone who is both ARR and rajini fan.
I really shudder to think what would have happened if this movie was a mega hit in class of badshah or padaiyappa-that would have been the biggest blow for tamil film world this year.I am not saying this -apprently countless smaller producers are overjoyed at baba's failure-it means they have a chance of survival.Rajini can survive another flop-but not the smaller minions.

"people are committing suicide over quality of songs"
siva, I believe it is not fans who r in a daydream. It's people like u who distort facts in such blatant ways who r in some delusion (maya). Do u really believe the above sentence tat u typed or do u think there is nothing wrong in distorting several facts at one go?
No one here sneered at someone for not appreciating the movie or called themselves superior. If u feel tat those who like the movie are superior, then tat is ur opinion.
And please note there is a big difference between someone who doesnt like the song/movie and someone who keeps calling RK & ARR & their fans all sorts of vulgar names and keep repeating tis over a 100 times for extended periods, and even go to great troubles to use various IPs to repeat the same behaviour. I think these r the people working hard on their daydreams.

What i make of Baba is Rajnikant is unable to decide what he wants to do with his films and his fan base. Whether to make movies which interest him or play into his fans psyche: make movies with hot dialougues with political overtones. So Baba seems to be a compromise of the two which is precisely why it may not appeal to the common lot. But to a Rajni fan, Rajini movie is His movie and no matter what he will like it.. Heck, even I like Baba whereas I consider myself as not a great fan of Rajnikant. but for those of u abroad and who watched Baba in DVD or in crowdless foreign theaters, i must remind u, for a rajnikant movie, part of the experience is the crowds at the theater. Beleive Me U, I saw Baba twice this summer. the first time being in Kerala with literally 7 ppl in balcony and 15 ppl in the normal class on the 17th Aug. Our conclusion then was, baba was a major bummer and we even started to believe that the baba released in TN wud somehow be different from the one in Kerala.
Then, in exactly a week, I went to my local theater in thanjavur with some real crowd on a sat evening with near housefull capacity. And, boy what a show it was. You cant but whistle and jump-about, what with all the enthusiasm of the crowd which made such a racket for every move of rajnikant. The movie was different,so engaging: it seemed to us we were in a different movie altogether; the crowds just added a new dimension to the film which previously was lacking.
As for me, as forewarned earlier in my amateurish review, i have to take back my words and indeed admit that the songs from baba are one addictive bunch with me not able to stop dippu and shakti kodu from repeat in my cd player. I dont know and dont really want to know why so many hate baba and its music.
For us rahman fans, we are never disappointed coz hes reinventing himself with every movie and in baba more so, with a bgm in a class of its own and not to forget the songs, which seem so apt to the movie and very un-rajnikantish music. My sincere advice in good will to others who are trying to defend baba from the 'dont like it ones', just forget it.. if they dont like it.. too bad.. for them.. period.. that is all. there is no way to further the argument. We should relax, put on the earphones and enjoy.

I don't understand why people spend so much energy to denounce something they don't like.
If you don;t like something, say your piece and go on your way.
But if you keep on coming back and argue against it, your views will become suspect.
I haven't seen Baba but I think the songs are different but quite good.

My Fair opinion.
Yesterday, I saw Baba in Vetri theatre in Chromepet. From, yesterday onwards, I think, the film has been put to be screened in vetri only. They had released the film in both Vetri and rakesh, with prices ranging from 50 to 150, I was told. Yesterday, my ticket was Rs.50. Too much for that theatre.
There was not much of a crowd. The Balcony was almost full, but the tharai seats were only 70% full. A sad visual for a rajini film. Yesterday was friday and that theatre is still horrible without A/C . I last went there some 3 years ago. They didn't put of light for nearly one hour. Who will come to such a theatre.
Now the film.
I liked the film. But, I am sure if you were expecting a out and out rajini film then it is a disappointment. The message of the film is very good and says about spirituality. When so many political parties and cinema starts pretend to be athist and believe in pseudosecularism, Rajini had the guts to say some thing about the eternal thruth. But, where he fail is in Screen play. Too much of graphics, which clearly will protray to a non believer that all about God is reel. I felt that when such a message from a star like Rajini comes, then it has to be substantiated with authenticity. I want to refer on film here. I don't know how many of you would have seen that. The film is TR's "Enga veettu Velan" or some think like that. The film has a spiritual likn to Lord Murugan, but never even in one scene, he would have shownb mayai or some madhiram. All the happenings in the film would have been given reasons. But still that film will carry good spiritual message. Baba could have been like that.
I had a muslim family in my front seat. They watched the movie completely. I was uneasy thinking how will they take the message. But their body language seemed to suggest that they were not unhappy.
Now the obvious thing. The music was very good and gelled with the film. The new rap was fabulous and I could here wistle sound from the floor when it was play for the first time during the fight.
I liked the Rajiyamma song in the film. I did not like it in the casstette. The song starts of at the right place and even in the end, the song is apt.
BGM was excellent and I suggest at least the moderate IR Fans should see the film and judge themselves. I want to quote some of the scenes here.
1.The BGM when the elephan comes and places its trunk over Rk's head.
2. RK's counter with the politician.
3. The kite scene..excellent one. The whole scene is one of the USP of the film.
4. The nadhaswarm bit in the temple when RK converts from athist to thist.
The BGM did not eat up dialogs and was very good.
Verdict:
Yes, this film is below par with recent RK hit film and ARR songs. I don't have any fuss in accepting that. ARR delivered what ever is right for the film and the film's script is to be blamed. I don't have any fuss, because, I know RK and I know he will give major hit next time. He has seen this rise and fall for the past 27 years and he would have expected this. He should do what is easy for him. Script is not his dept.
Even though the message he wanted to say was praise worthy, he is too costly an actor to say that. That's his saabam and it is very difficult for him to change that.
