The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:
Do you remember the 'vizhiyil vizhundhu' (alaigal oyvadhillai) song?

Folks, please share any such stories, anecdotes and tit-bits that
you know, in this thread. If TFM Group thinks it is sufficiently
interesting, they could even place it in Permanent Topics.

Someone had written about this same function in DF,
somewhere else. I think someone else told you a
distorted version of what happened. It seems
IR doesn't have the habit of wearing rings. So,
with a smile he politely said "NO" to ARR and put the
ring in ARR's fingers. The whole thing only went
on to point out to everyone that they were good friends,
after all!

Sathiya Keerthi - My personal feeling is that even if IR didn't want the ring, he should not have returned it. It only served to embarrass ARR in public and didn't earn IR anything. If ARR had done anything really bad in the past and there was real animosity, than IR should not have been there at all.
This incident only made people interpret the action as arrogance. I know IR doesn't care much for public opinion, but as a public figure, people's attention will always be on his actions and in the end, his fans feel duty-bound to explain them away.

I dont' know whether this incident has already been posted by somebody else. if yes, pl. forgive me.
kannadhAsan was q&a session in a college, in which one student asked to clarify a line in the song kattOdu kuzhalAda aada, kannendra meenAda aada, song *ing mgr, manimala & ??. The line was pacharisi pallAda pmbarathu nAvAda. He asked 'Mgr was varnichifying a young girl and if that is so, how could her teeth which is like pacharisi, shake?' kanna' was caught off-gaurd and finally accepted the mistake - it seems.

ARR could not have surprised IR by slipping the ring through IR's finger in a moment notice. "Kannmoodi Kann Thirappatharkkul Asambaavitham Nadanthuvittathu" enrellaam chumma solla mudiyaathu. IRin kaiyai pidithu, Viralai eduthu antha RINGai ARR poduvatharkkul, IR could have stopped him, kaiyai uthariyirukkalaam; Veindaam yenru thaduthirukkalaam; But, he didn't. IR let ARR put the ring as a symbol of acceptance. Then, he took it out and gave it back to him.

Again, I am not supporting either arguments. Because, I was not there to have seen what really happened between them, to derive a correct conclusion. For all we know, IR could have explained the fact to ARR politely before returning the ring. or IR could have done it in total Arrogance. or this or that.

Hi guys,
This whole episode of ARR putting the ring in IR's fingers came in AV and I had posted it in one of the DF threads.
The narrataion of AV goes like this -
"AR had put the ring in IR's fingers. IR has the principle of not wearing any jewellery and now that this ring belonged to him he gave it back to AR as a token of affection. This was something that moved the audience emotionally"
After reading this I felt, WOW, something which is a long time due for TFM industry has taken place and I felt happy about it.
But now reading this thread only feeling I have is after all whatever might be the news, it all belongs to mindset of the reader. !!
Of course, we all find it difficult to give up on our theory and notion of one the favorite topics in TFMDF. - (ARR and IR hate each other) & (ARR is the all innocent new talent trying create a goodwill and IR is the all arrogant talent bent on destroying all that)!!
I would just like you guys to remember one incident clearly. When ARR was in an interview asked about the TFM he liked he did not mention IR at all. Not on even one aspect of IR's music.
Recently when IR was asked about AR's music in specific he replied "He does well. Of course I am the one likes good music like every one of you"
Compare this with KR's answers on ARR's music and ARR's answers himself - I am able to deduce one aspect - IR is more matured in his approach.
To me I considered this event as point in TFM history when ARR acknowledged IR and therefore I will not be looking at ARR as IR's rival anymore. Basically, this opens me up to listen to more of AR's music without that little bit of dissatisfaction lurking in my mind.

Mux,
I agree with your assessment of the ring event. I was touched by the whole show of affection thing too as were the audience who witnessed the event. And since IR probably didn't come prepared to give rings to anybody as he doesn't dwell in aabaranangal, he did the next best gesture, which is to put the ring back on ARR's finger much like receiving a piece of the birthday cake and feeding it to the one who cut the cake.
Now, I agree that IR is certainly more mature and sage like in his demeanor, except for the occasional show of temper, but ARR has always shown IR and other MDs respect. In fact, in one of his interviews a couple of years back, ARR said that people have this misconception that he doesn't listen to other MD's music or that he doesn't get along with them. He said he loved the tune "Injee Iduppazhagaa" by IR and that he loved the song "Annamalai Annamalai" by Deva. ARR also went on to say that he knew Deva from his days with Doordharsan's "Wonder Balloon".
All this animosity between professionals exists mostly in the eyes of the media and the fans. It goes back to MGR vs. Sivaji, Kamal vs. Rajini, and other such self-imposed rivalries created by fans.
For a long time a rumor persisted that SPB and KJY never got along, but look at them touring together now. I find it needlessly unhealthy to tear someone down in order to appreciate another. When will TFM fans ever get there?

Hi,
I saw the photgraph of this event in AV and IR and ARR were smiling. They looked cordial enough. Maybe many of us in this DF have a lot of imagination. Here's to friendship in TFM.

I was there in Madras Nehru Stadium when this RING
thing happened. Though I was bit far away, I was able
to see what was happening.
After IR got the ring, "NNUUNGU"nu ARR thalaila oru KUTTU vaichu

vali thAngAma ARR "UUUK"nu kaththa
IR padinAr:
"mettu pOdu mettu pOdu
nAn kodutha kuttu valikku mettu pOdu"
(that time I noticed Deva taking notes about
the "NNUUNGU" and "UUUK" saththam)
ARR immediately gave the mettu:
kuttu kuttu rAsaiyA
kottap pAkku veekam pArthiyA
(athAnga, "kutti kutti rAkkamma" tune)
IR got thrilled and upon appreciation he gave the ring
back to ARR - and immediately covered his mottai with his hands.
