Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Every body can use a little "motivation", yeah?
So, I think the friendly terms would be "coaxing". Threat - the world has enough of that these days, and I am a peacenik!

Naaz, Kaumudi, Sarvanan:
You will find the complete Pakeezah LP quite easily, for sure. Its entitled as "Pakeezah Rang Birang" and was apparently released in 1977. Of course, the song is a rare one, but its definitely available in music stores.
Just FYI, here is a listing of all the "unreleased songs" of Pakeezah:
1)VJs "Mora Saajan" (yes, I do like this song!)
2)Gir gayee re more maathe ki bindiyaa - Meena Kumaari (!) and Suman Kalyanpur. This begins with a recitation by Meena Kumaari - "leke angraai.......aisi kamar balkhayee".
3)Tanhaayee sunaaya karti hai, pyaar bharaa ek afasanaa - Lata
4)A solo by Mohammed Rafi, I have forgotten the first line of the song!
5)"chalo dildaar chalo" - Lata's solo version (the duet with Rafi is well known)
6)Bandhan baandho - a Bhoop Vilambit by Shobhaa Gurtu
7)Kaun gali gayo shyaam - Khamaaj (?) piece by Begum Parween Sultaana
8)chali re chali, main to pi ki nagariya chali....Lata
9)Dir taana dere naa, deem deem tanana....Lata
(its the title music).
All these unreleased songs were composed by Naushad except for #5. Besides that, the entire movie is studded with the most mouth-watering background music pieces. And the entire film is a masterpiece, each and every scene, each and every song including the unreleased ones, each and every lyric, and each and every line in the film's script. It didnt win any awards, and what was worse - I heard Meena Kumaari didnt live long enough to see the complete release of the film!
Sorry for this digression. Kaumudi, thanks for your translations. Doesnt "Pooja" has a P Susheela classical number "nee dhaya raadha"?

Av-
Regarding the two albums:
Pakeezah was released (if I am right) in 1971 (Mahal Pictures) KA's own. And then, in 1977 came Rang Barang (Pakeezah Films!!) -
I am not entirely certain that they were the same film. The Rafi song you are thinking of from Rang Barang is Yeh Kis Ki Aankhon Ka (Majrooh's lyrics).
Hence, my statement that the LP of Pakeezah had these other singers - VJ, Rajkumari and Parveen Sultana. It was Rang Barang which featured SK, SG.
I have no idea who starred in Rang Barang (or if indeed was a "longer" Pakeezah.) This has to be demystified. Are they the same film??
Meena Kumari passed away during the filming of Pakeezah. The last song in the film, "Aaj Hum Apni Duaon Ka Asar Dekhenge" - had MK in the initial movements - and then a double took over for the later segment of the song.
The double was Padma Khanna! (who reprised her famous dance from Johnny Mera Naam in the tamil "Raja"!)

Yes - Pooja has the popular classical number by P.Susheela "Nee Daya Radha....". Rajan Nagendra has chosen PS for this classical number alone in that film. PS sings this effortlessly.

Thanks. Indeed as guest mentioned, Pooja had a PS number Nee daya raadha which is a thyagaraja keerthana (BTW, this keerthana was used again in a slightly differently style, same ragam, by IR & KJY in Sindhubhairavi). That's why I said " most of the songs in this movie were sung by VJ" and not "all of the songs......".

dig: I found the PS version of "Nee Daya Radha...." here:

sounds very different from the concert versions that I've heard (also the KJY version in Sindhu Bhairavi)

Subbu & OISG, when I click on play (or whatever) a window opens up asking for my player preferences - Realplayer or Windows Media Player. I chose Realplayer and it worked fine. It remembers your choice for later play requests. I'm not sure if that will solve your problem.

Vasanthabhairavi is Vakulabharanam janyam. Vakulabharanam minus "pa" (panchamam) equals Vasanthabhairavi. And as you mentioned Nee daya raadha is in Vasanthabhairavi

I think Pakeezah was released after a lot of delay. Did Kamal Amrohi pass away too before its released? I can faintly recollect Nov 18 '68 as the date of his demise.(year not sure)

Thanks. But recently i got a pocket edition of songs and ragas ,a compilation ,issued during December music festival. They have mentioned that both are same.Is "Pa" absent in both aarohanam and avarohanam?
Naaz
Thanks for the concern. The electronic media has made us indifferent to the point of being cruel at times.you watch BBC s Bomb clips sipping your morning coffee staying just 600 kms(as the crow flies) away from the war zone.Life is normal here ,except the panic-buying by housewives.

From my reading, I Vasanthabhairavi doesn't have the "pa" in both aro and avaro that is present in vakulaabharanam. Experts can clarify. May be we should ask people in the Ragas thread.

OISG, Saravanan -
Good to hear that you are safe and well. Let it be just that way for as long as this crisis lasts!
Kaumudi -
There a fine Rajan Nagendra composition for the Kannada film Bayyalu Daari. It is an SPB/VJ duet which goes "Kanasalu Ninne, Manasalu Ninne..."
It is a hit from the 70s, you might find it appealing:

Yeah Naaz, I have heard that tune before. Rajan-Nagendra used the exact same tune in Telugu for the movie Naalugu Sthambhaalata - super hit movie and this song again was a major hit!! The song is called "Chinukulaa raali" and was rendered by Balu and Suseela. The link is here:
http://www.telugubiz.net/songs/search.php?do=list.tracks&col=al_id&val=248&sort=al
I simply love this song for its beauty in simplicity (from a listener's point of view). What a pleasant melody! But why did R-N choose to constantly switch between SJ, VJ, PS in Telugu and Kannada? Who knows, maybe he wanted some sort of variety.
The Kannada song is good too (obviously with VJ enhancing the already beautiful song). VJ sounds quite young in this song. I wonder which came first - the telugu version or the kannada one?
Is there a tamil version of this song? Our W.E. Saravanan sir.......

Kaumudi -
I will listen to the Telugu version rightaway. To listen to the same song sung by different artistes (esp if it is PS SJ or VJ) is something to savour and cherish. Each of these singers has their own "signature" moments, and it makes for a wonderful "music" detective work!
PS and SJ were already established (the former in tamizh/telugu and the latter in Kannada/Malayalam) when VJ came on the scene. In the late 70s (Kanasulu is from that era just like Pooja is,) all three divas were busy singing anywhere between 3/5 songs a day, shuttling between Bangalore, Madras and Hyderabad. I can only conjecture that the "replacements" (PS in Telugu VJ in Kannada SJ in Tamizh etc) might have happened due to this. Dates/Schedules/Availablity - and MD/Producer preference would have all been relevant factors.
But isn't this the beauty of it all? You can listen to all three, the same song, and each in a different language! That's heaven three times over! :-)
I have not heard a tamizh version. But - let the "Resident Encyclopedia of Music (REM? :-) confirm this...Saravanan, seekiram...sollungal!
