Hi All,
Apologise for this sudden and unusual thread.
We have regular contributors and silent watchers in these forums, some new, some have been there since inception of the forums. Today we have a lot of new faces and there will be more.
I am just curious to know about which year/month did you join in the discussions here..
..I still remember chancing upon newtfmpage in Jan 2001 and sparking off a war in the 'IR's latest' thread unknowingly without realizing the ongoing IR-ARR fans blood feud ! A few of the DFers who were around (and are still)around were : kiru (the audiologist), bharath (a new generation fan), swami (sangeetha vidwan and once Bharath's nemesis!), common friend (a balanced fan), ambleen, eden(who got hurt when I said that he was still stuck in the 70s!), Karthik S (the music dealer who can make out a fake from an original!)...and a lot more interesting people that I have not mentioned !
Could you guys/gals tell us when and how you joined the discussions here and also narrate any funny incidents or discussions that had happened ?

cosmician,
TFMDF is one of the very first websites I visited after I learnt what is internet and how to browse using ie :-) That was in July1998 !
And till date, I am fully enjoying reading the posts and contributing whenever possible, I got quite a number of friends thro' tfm, (and almost became 'tamil' editor of an eZine and somehow that chance slipped ;-), Lists (like IR - SJ Hits, SPB - SJ Hits etc.,) that are discussed in TFMDF are something very unique, that you won't find anywhere else in the web - many of those lists are with me as audio cassettes now :-), you can find any information that you need abt. tfm in notime - I have seen it many times, To cut a loooong story short - this site is both enjoyable and useful !! We must thank TFM page team for everything they have given us !

I am browsing this forum since end 1997 or 1998.
I learnt lot of technical things, esp. in IR's music. Gained many online friends too. Read the discussions by sooooo many IR fans. Lots of funny posters and fighters like Theva once upon a time :) Also so many heated discussions like Scathing remark on IR, IR's limitations in ragas, etc. I also know that the members of RaajaNGAHM are from this page.

I remember the day I first posted on the tfm df. I had my first and only car accident tat day. It was last year August. I think I bounced upon it from a search site as well.
I started one of my first threads regarding the MD for Rajini's next movie (not the current one). Some guy made up some stories tat IR was begging Rajini for a chance. This naturally led to the usual asterix & the goths (stealing tis line from OISG) like bashing. Then a HCIRF known as kavitha came along and started abusing the guy who mentioned it but went on to put down my IP address and name and asked what the hell I was doing in Perth. (she used far more vulgar words which I'll omit). I tried to point out to her she had made a mistake and I wasnt the one who mentioned IR was begging. Tho it was obvious she had made a mistake she refused to admit it and went on using more Tamil vulgarities. Funnily, she thought I was a guy and called me 'thambi' and made statements like she can be a man to a man. I didnt bother telling her I was female.
Anyway tat was the first bashing I was involved in, among many more to follow shortly. [:-)]
But more importantly it highlighted to me the importance of IP addresses, as I realised she had figured out my location from my IP. Tat was when I discovered the existence of whois. I also found out later that some of kavitha's posts had been removed by admin due to the hi level of vulgarities.
Nice thread cosmician. Hope admin wont close it or redirect it. Will add a few more interesting stories later if possible.

bb/udhaya: This might be a good place (or maybe at a separate permanent location within DF) for you guys to write about how it all started, who were some of the key contributors (ahem, ahem), some key battles (the 'been there done that' for the 'puchchaa pEttakkuLLa vandhanvanga' Lukku), and other interesting side stories.

TFM was one among the pages that I visit whenever I get connected to internet. It was 1997 that first time I saw this page. I was searching for the song Janani Janani of IR and then came across this page.
Initially this page was more interesting as there used to be lot of good topics to discuss, lot of quality inputs from different people whom I dont see anymore or see very rare. I always felt that this was the most lively and decent forum I have ever seen on the net. Its only recently that TFM changed a lot. Most of the topics are boring and finally end up with IR-ARR discussion.
The first topic I started was " Lyric or tune which is important for a song" something similar. I dont remember exact words.
Anyway TFM has become always a part of my daily activity.

Cosmician, thanks for a wonderful thread!
Feb 98, was in Brisbane then. Led here by a random web search for a particular IR song "etho ninaivugal" that I was desperate to listen to for some strange reason. Stumbled in by accident, but got hooked onto the sheer intensity of debate here, not to mention the quality of knowledge that was available for the taking.
For a few years, the round-the-clock eavesdropping on newtfmpage caused by unlimited aussie bandwidth poisoned me to the extent that I was among the 1st to get cable access when it was introduced in Chennai. This forum can have a force multiplier effect on you by inducing a sheer habit. Alongside threads that teeter on the fine line between humour and ridiculous, you have invaluable resource for music lovers, wannabe professionals, audiophiles, and of course, those looking for some spice in life's fast lane!
I will not make qualitative statements on the level of participation then and now, suffice to say that life moves on. Many have graduated to bigger and important things in life, some have possibly tired, some have chosen to go on a 'silent observer' mode, and some just reinvented themselves in brand new avatars!
Along the way, I have made many friends, been humbled by the pedigree and brilliance of many fellow participants, and opened new vistas in listening pleasures for myself.
5 years is a long time by any consumer standards to be 'brand loyal' to an information channel. I think newtfmpage has successfully managed that and much more with a fairly significant userbase. Let me raise a toast to all who keep this forum alive and dynamic!

cosmician,
good thread! good topic.. nice work..
I began participating since june 2000. I also was part of the blood feud between IR Vs ARR fans.
yes ! swami was my nemesis once upon a time. i got into a wrangle with srikanth..thinking that he was a different srikanth. I could nt get my srikanths correct:-)
met after a long time MS my childhood classmate. but its been a wonderful experience with
ARR gang being:
cosmician, Common friend, KarthikS, NagaS(appo appo), Srikanth (aalaye kaanum) and myself..
And the IR gang being
Kiru (the gang leader), Kupps, eden, Mahabs, hihi-) and all the folks who whacked my bu tt in the IR experiments thread!
I know MS and RajaG are like big IR fans(IRFan included) but they dont have much blood on their hands..
in my early posts I started out describing MR's movie-music and accidentaly stepped over a few IR fans toes.. apporam galatta thaan..

i came sometime last year (2001)....first under my real name....the first thread i visited was this one thread named 'arr's experiment', started by yaaro (HCIRF), and in fact he was the first one to explain me what HCIRF meant (i didn't know first)...
my first own thread was a comparison between world music and indian music....got some really good contributions...
one thread i still remember is one called 'the pychology between IR-ARR war' (or something like that)...a really cool thread...as i read the posts there i thought those were some high profilic psychologists discussing...
an other funny character i remember is good old raghu, with his SPB threads...
and all these IR-ARR threads, at last i somehow got sick...and after that i became a silent watcher...
but somehow i should say, in the past months there have been too much senseless threads (anu malik - IR, imaan - ARR), too much personal bashing and such things...all these kept me away...
anyway...had a nice time here though..
and at last one word to whynot: girl, thanks for ur support so often...
raycas
