Gems of K S Chitra

Off late, K S Chitra has become one of my hot favourites amongst female singers. Her voice has a unique and rich timbre which I really enjoy. lets take this opportunity to discuss songs by her in Tamil and various other languages - Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu. Her songs sung under the tutelage of Ilayaraja, AR Rehman, Ravindran et al are really excellent, moreover she has a delightful classical touch as is seen in her rendition of "alaipayuthe" and the Sindhubhairavi songs. She has done a great deal of Hindu and Christian devotional albums in Southern languages...lets discuss those. My favourite Chitra song so far remains "gopika vasantham" and her duet with SPB in the Telugu
movie Swathikiranam. What a voice and that sharpness!

So please, lets discuss her songs!! :-)

  Please search in coolgoose using the key words akale, ee vaanam, mounam. I have been succesful in unearthing these three gems from Veendum - A poetry of Love. Unfortunately, each one of the files is more than 6MB, so I cannot upload it yahoo.briefcase.

  Kaumudi, thanks for your post. I listened to the song only after seeing your posting and each of your comments is true - esp about "the whole peaceful atmosphere that the song created and with Chitra's vocals", "no sharp edges but only smooth curves in the song".
  
  Definitely great rendition by Chithra. Infact the song has many highs and lows and it seems to be a difficult one for the vocal chords and unless rendered prudently the songs would loose its appeal. Chithra has done 100% justice to the song.
  
  Of many fans like you, I too have a small glitch in my mind as to why she isnt being considered these days?

  Just heard the classic renderation of the song "urangathe" by Chitra in gourishankaram. Her smooth heaven like voice makes you want to listen to it again an again.

  Chithra is great when she sings songs under certain specific ragams.
  One typical example is "Mohanam" ragam.The national award winning song "Manjal Prasadavum" from the malayalam film "Nakhakshathangal" and the state award and asianet award winning song "Mauliyil Mayil Peeli charthi" from the film "Nandanam" are great songs of Chithra and these are set to "Mohanam" Ragam.
  
  The song " Padariyen Padipparien" demostrates her skill in handling that great song set to "Sindhubhairavi" Ragam.Another Ragam which I can think where the singing is extremely melodious with Chithra is "Malayamaruthan".Her Malayalam song "Pularkala sundara swapnathil njanoru" is one example of "malayamaruthan" ragam.
