6 months ago , i heard that ilaiyaraja had booked for a hollywood movie as a music director but now he had dropped from that film.this all is because the director of the hollywood movie didn't likes the sample tunes that done by ilaiyaraja.after heard about ar rahman's scoreplay in michael jackson's new album song = EKAM SATYAM and about that arr had booked for shakespeare drama in london ,they had booked rahman in their film.AR RAHMAN WOULD SCORE HIS MUSIC FOR THIS FILM IN HIS MUSIC STUDIO IN LONDON.THE DIRECTOR SAID THAT HE COULD NOT SEARCH FOR A ANOTHER COMPOSER THAN RAHMAN BECAUSE RAHMAN IS JUST A VERY INTELLIGENT FELLOW.HE KNOWS ALL MUSIC EITHER MODERN OR CLASSICAL.RAHMAN HIS VOICE OF MUSIC.
AS A CONCLUSION AR RAHMAN IS A VERY INTELLIGENT AND SMART MUSIC COMPOSER IN ALL OVER THE WORLD...
ILAIRAJA COULD NOT BE COMPARED WITH THE GENIUS AR RAHMAN.

ragapriyan, why don't you post the views of each resident of your colony next? when will you realise that it is not what is said that matters but who said it? anybody can see that the people who praise rahman are all ultra local goshtis, with very limited following. look at raaja's supporters and compare their varied musical backgrounds and talent with those of rahman.

rf,
While I was reading through your posting, where you mentioned Ramanujan and Ilayaraja at the same breath, I realized that they also have something in common: their look.

Peter Pan: I wanted to open a separate topic on that too! What i am more interested is in understanding the underlying complexities in their works. One them that is common to both is their unparalleled prolificity and second, the abundance of content is each little work of theirs. Ramanujan behind about 4000 theorem's which are still being worked upon considered to the biggest re-xamination of any human being's works in history by the world' most accomplished mathematicians.... would the same happen to IR's works? i am sure it will but it could take a few decades from now... world is not ready yet to even take a look at the deluge....

Can you guys continue the discussion regarding Ramanujam, and IR in the following thread:

It is more appropriate.

i think tamilan doesnt have a clue of wat music is-----hes exhibiting his ignorance in all ways----i think he should be aware that most of a-r- rahman's tunes are copied from arabic songs and english songs and i challenge you to tell me one song the maestro has blindly copied in his 800 movies hes composed

I think Tamilan has started this thread to simply get a response. All us with taste in music, know that IR is a genius and nobody can compare with his achievement in music.
This is a completely silly and irrelevant thread.

Hello friends,
The above words tell that ar rahman is very intelligent and he couln't be comparred with IR.ok...i am comming with u'r point. If u are genious with some subject u can easily handle that why be'c's u are very fluent with it.then why he is taking even one year to compose a single film, but it may be a flop.its another thing. They likes not the tune that are created new.they likes the new sounds.they don't know it will give enjoyment for just half an hour.i can bet if anybody can hear the song composed by ar more than half an hour repeateedly.but u can hear the song 'created' by illayaraja for even one day..so,comparing ARRAHMAN with IR is unacceptable.

Ramanujam, and IR
Guys..the resemblance is amazing...the link between Mathematics and Music never had such a connection before !! Music is Maths and Maths is Music...the computer says so too (through ARR ? :-)

My guess and bet is Ramanujam reincarnated as IR....maybe Ramanujam just before his demise discovered that the Head has to meet the Heart at some point and in this case Mathematics when expressed through the Heart maybe was music to his ears ! And thus the desire was born in his heart to become a musician and for that he had to be born again...!!
Make any sense out of it ? NOM...just a silly rambling..sorry :)

J.Chandramouli, I have listened to ARR songs (from Jeans and Uyire) for more than hours repeatedly, even as long as 6 hours at one go, once. (i was travelling inter-state in a bus during hols) ARR songs can be listened to continuously. Even now, if we suddenly hear Puthu Vellai Mazhai, all my friends gasp in pleasant surprise bcos the song is still so new and refreshing.

cosmician,
being a fan of ARR you must visit rahmanonline.com-some months back there was this beethovenesque looking picture of ARR-i was 100 percent sure that this picture involve some computer jugglery to make arr look like beethoven-and I had mentioned that this was taking things too far.someone became wise and this picture ,is no longer there-thank god.beethoven the towering composer and arr-whose longest compsitions run to ?8 minutes!
reg resemblance between IR and Ramanujam, I had noticed this many years back-I thought i was the only one seeing things-now i feel myself vindicated.

Speaking about Beethoven and Rahman - when I was new in this forum I'd suggested that their working styles matched...this resulted in a lot of heated and angry arguements...but physically now that you mention it...both of them have a squarish face and a similarly shaped lips - the major difference is the angry look on Beethoven's face...Rahman's is more like at peace..but Ramanujam and IR have a more closer resemblance.

>>.beethoven the towering composer and arr-whose longest compsitions run to ?8 minutes! <<
Personally I feel that time doesn't matter in a composition...if it is required I'm sure that ARR and IR can take up the challenge of a Beethoven or Mozart....we have to remember the time and place always when it comes to Artistic, Cultural, Technological or even Religious achievements and should never make the mistake of generalizing it as a standard for all times, places and people. If we do that we'll end up with bigotry and fundamentalism as the world is already witnessing today.
Beethoven
Time : 18th Century ?
Place : Post-Renaissance Europe ?
Art : Music / Western Classical
Technology : Orchestral style and Western instruments of that period
Culture : People had more time to spare and were ready to spend 3 hours in a chamber listening to a huge orchestra...remember there were no cinemas then..
ARR :
Time : 2001
Place : Southern India
Art : Music / Indian based music that draws influences from music genres across the world.
Technology : Sophisticated Digital Mixers and Synths coupled with Analog instruments + Huge Digital Library of Sounds and Samples from around the World...
Culture : A world that can be accessed and known through a TV set or a PC with an Internet connection and where people are being exposed to different cultures and sounds - a new Global consciousness pervades...Mass appeal for Visual Music (thru Cinema and Video) that is packaged in small quantities for immediate consumption (max 5 minutes)
As you can see the differences are huge between the 18th century and the 21st century. Let us learn to appreciate the difference and appreciate the good in all no matter what the background.

cosmician..ennappa ..you are trying my patience with this obsession with this digital thingy. I have a Bachelors of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University. I KNOW WHAT IS DIGITAL. If by any chance, you think I am an Ettu churaikkAi ..fyi I do play with software mixers, analog synths etc to see the technology in action. I have a basic understanding of musical concepts like harmony/chords etc and some exposure to 'futuristic' genres like electronica. My understanding is music is still music i.e. it is made up of notes, pitch, beat etc. And all that the digital equipment can do is enhance the sound or create new sounds to be played as music. So in my opinion technology should be out of the picture when talking about music.

Sorry to confuse things Kiru...what I meant to potray was the differences in the methods etc...
Why do we consider Beethoven a genius ? Massive works with lots of innovative structuring etc. at the same time inspired melodies and developments ?
Does that mean compsers these days who compose 5-minute songs are not good ?
The point I was trying to illustrate was..that there is no use in comparing and saying Beethoven and Mozart were the greatest....who knows 50 years hence..ARR and IR may be called the greatest composers India had ever known in the 20th century !
