Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Hey any idea about the song "Ninaithaal Unaithaan Ninaipean". It is KJY-VJ duet. Just one more great song. When VJ ends like Illamai Illamai Illamai, it was really fantastic.

Hello Ragavan,
The film you were watching was Idhayam...(I think). Love on, Love all Chendu Malli Pooppol - that's the song I remember from that movie.
I have not heard the Ninaithaal song. Am curious to know more about it.
Lakshmi/Srividya/Sujatha/Saritha - all got the best solos by VJ. Of course, those where the days of MSV-K.Balachander (and he gave roles to the above actresses in his films).

Does anyone know a site where I can find "Maankandaen Maankandaen " duet by VJ-KJY from Rajarishi? This song has been filling my head for the last three days!

Ramki,
Have you read Sandhithen Sindhithen by Kannadasan? BTW, in the not so recent past OUTLOOK magazine selected (through a poll) VJ's "Bol Re Papi Hara" as THE song of the 70s. Last year VJ was the only (film) singer to be invited to sing for the Meera Samaroh in Mathura (others on the list were Pt.Bhimsen Joshi and Pt.Hariprasad Chaurasia). There was a superlative review of VJ's concert at the festival in The Hindustan Times. (The hindi edition)
Recently (last month) VJ recorded 6 songs (devotionals) for the same lyricist who penned her award-winning songs from Swati Kiranam. The album is due to be out early 2002 in Andhra.

Also, in the year 2000 (May) VJ gave a sold-out concert of Bhajans/Kirtans/Geets - at the Lincoln Centre in Manhattan, New York. The concert was organised by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
VJ was a jury member for last year's Indian National Awards.

Though three people sing this song it is practically a solo. Vani Jayaram just dominates.

2.Malligai En Mannan - Deerga Sumangali
3.Malligai Mullai Poopanthal - Anbe Aaruyiray
4.Pongum Kadalosai - Meenava Nanban
5.Valzthal Unnodu - Savithri
6.Veru Idam Thedi Povaro - Sila Nerangalil...

Quite a few songs are there with IR and Shankar-ganesh.
Any interesting questions?

Hello: VJ has not been given the credits she deserves. I have had the pleasure of listening to her renditions since early 70s. Many flawless performances.....Not a day goes by for me without listening to her greatest ever rendition "Enullil Engo Engum Geetam" (mezzo soprano) from Rosapoo Ravikaikari. A brilliant composition by IR (can anyone compose something like that), well written song and an exquisite/smooth rendition by VJ in her own style. I bet that this song will stand as a testament to her critics. She has been quite successful unlike other singers and had had a long career and her unsurpassed singing abilities and also high quality rendition. I am yet to come accross a song like that in a very long time.

Vicky,
I also beleive that Yenullil Yengo is one of VJ's Navaratnas. Illaiyaraja's composition was masterful and VJ's rendition a superb example of poignancy and control. Divine.
Other singers of the recent crop can only dream of such excellence.
