what is happenin to the forum. dull for 3 weeks or so? ok, here is a irrelevant topic, but it is a betting game kind of.
Been following Shyamalan' involvement in hyping and marketing of this latest film. some "Signs" that it could be Unbreakable unlike crop circles. Shyamalan is more a marketing guy than a film maker, and seems to enjoy the attention also. I can see he is disguising his real basis (only aliens from space can scare white people into believing in God, etc....) behind shoddy endings deliberately probably to burst the bubble around him before it got too bad. I guess, he is feeling cooked, even a light music type film Signs made money, so he doesn't have to think and make much effort as he has figured the audiences also are not thinkers. My feelings, Village will have a punished opening collect less than 99 million. OR, it could have a super opening and go 200 mill if the audience forgives his hype but likes his cool attitude. How long can Shyamalan simmer like this with supsense thriller romance drama etc.., unless he breaks out of this spiritual suspense and move on to musicals?????? I have a feeling MNS could survive by introducing song-n-dance-comedy-suspense thriller-family-drama from Chennai itself if The Village stinks. IR' Symphony may prepare the audiences world-wide for such possibilities. Again, do you think IR has a great Symphony for Thiruvasakam as in Symphony Symphony? or How To Name It on Symphonic Orchestra, which will take the rest of the world a few centuries to even figure out what the heck. Anyone has comments about these two geniuses, one trying to break his genre bubble for which he is caged almost like a freak, the other just plain centuries ahead before the world can catch up with him? Will MNS have "contrasting" ideas left and should he not take to musical movies to dish out new stuff? Because MNS has an acute sense of music, no doubt and I can bet his many deliberately slow movies could have done better with some musical moods. He is like Balu Mahendra without IR.

Music_lover: who is schroedinger? what is quantum mechanics? i am not intellectual or scientist. i am only asking for help ;---) (seriously, is shyamalan trying twists and turns in his "the village" like film songs of IR for the purpose of getting rid of attention? and another hidden question is IR tryng to discourage future "fan" projects by tiring all of us with getting one symphony itself, which may or may not be symphony symphony but "how to name it part 2" and be understood gl_lobally only 200 years from now? and do you think two masterminds can work togehter from Chennai atleast in one movie doing song-dance-suspense-romance-twist-jive-disco etc.../? )
just kiddin, man and tryin to find where you folks are. all okay, i suppose

I dont see the connection between ilayaraja and m.night shyamalan's "The Village"...
Going by your way of reasoning, maybe you are just trying to hype up Ilayaraja by connecting him with M.Night Shaymalan, when there is no connection whatsoever???

Dude, who is this Shaymalan, BTW? Why should someone hype up Raja with this unknown character?

ARR IS THE TFM HFM MFM TFM KING!!!!!!!!!
It should be ARR not IR, if MNS were to do such a thing

ARR!? No way!! That would be too cliche. I mean, we all know that that would be MNS' first choice, don't we!! What's wrong with IR doing the music (provided the film had songs)?? Then again, you could go for someone like Ravi Shankar Sharma (or Bombay Ravi, as those Malayalis refer to him as), Ravindran, Devendran (Manukkul Vairam, Prema Pusthakam, etc.), MM Keeravaani, Vijay Anand, or.... There are numerous very good IFM composers to pick from.
Another point I would like to make, and this looks like a thread to do it in is, there just isn't any dichotomy between ethnicity and ethnicity. Well, let's just say less dichotomy, as now they're trying the techniques of more body exposure and less morals as they do in Hollywood, generally speaking (even Spiderman 2 showed male and female getting into each others' mouths)! However, they still haven't come out with a South Indian film with a starcast of an Indian opposite a Westerner, with the exception of Little John (w/ Bentley Mitchum opposite Jothika). How about try the opposite-- an Indian man opposite a Western woman? I mean, no doubt that will come to pass, don't you think! I think it won't be long before one of those big shot Indian film actors, like Ajith, Prasanth, Vijay, Madhavan, or whoever has a film with one of them big shot Western actresses like, say, Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, or whomever. I could see it happening right now. It could also be the inverse, or the converse, or the contrapositive as well. But you guys get the general message I'm trying to give?
And I'm fine with it all... provided everyone involved is RESPONSIBLE, as in good, clean language, adequate dress for all involved, and an intelligent storyline.
[Sorry to digress so far from the main topic; Just so eager to deliver these few points]

I remember seeing a trailer for a hindi film with a American actress opposite a indian, her name is Brande Roderick ( let me tell you, it doesnt get any hotter than her ) . She was a baywatch star. So yeah its been done, but not yet in the south. I would like to see madhavan opposite janet jackson, haha ....dreaming! Well MNS's first choice would be ARR, mainly coz hes much more versatile than IR and others. He's music breaks barriers while IR strugles to compose different styles, he is stuck in only a few genres, which he does master at, and MNS would be needing someone who can blend Indian and Western genres which would appeal to both audiences, i.e BOMBAY DREAMS, and comming soon "The Lord of the Rings , the musical" ...*my 2 cents*, i respect your opinion also and would like to see IR do sucha thing, but i just doubt he would suceed ( but who knows??)

"IR strugles to compose different styles, he is stuck in only a few genres,"
Chris, how much of IR have you heard? I don't think you've heard enough (or watched enough of his movies to appreciate the BGM)...else you won't make such a sweeping statement...first of all movie music is not `POP' albums or music videos!
I seriously doubt which composer in the whole world would've handled wider variety of music than IR...that he has done few pop style numbers does not disqualify him for any serious movie project, IMO...

oru santhegam, where is the CAPS lock or should i compare MUSIC_LOVER to this Music_Lover, It is surely difficult to accept opinions!!!!! just kidding.
btw what is the relevance here
1. MNS is not a hyping guy, he makes movies as he wants to, it is the companies and distributors who make the hype.
2. I liked all his ideas
3. IR is a uncompared genius.
4. one relevance MNS and IR are genius!!

Chris, Madhavan and Janet Jackson... that's just what I'm saying. Pretty soon, it'll be reality. And if not, I'll eat my umbrella!
However, I personally would like to see an attractive, yet less known face, (not Janet Jackson or J'Lo, or even L'Lo for that matter :-)))] just like I would like to see a native south Indian direct the music (Certainly not Rahman).
Anyway, Chris, your respect for my opinion is much appreciated. I think I really like you ;-))

ARR has extreme versatility, IR cannot compare to it and saying: "I seriously doubt which composer in the whole world would've handled wider variety of music than IR", is a very ignorant comment. ARR started making hits for adverts, and a few months later to compose the 5 min haunting songs for Roja is a perfect example of his versatility. The music from Yuva, especially 'FANAH' introducing dance, trancy music is something IR could not handle. ARR has done dance( yakir thiri, bailamore), reggae ( lucky lucky, no problem), village ( songs from karuthama, yelelo), jazz ( vaanila, songs from duet)...ive proved my point. Now u tell me the variety IR has?

chris,
u cant say IR has no variety.. that man's a genius. But I jus feel he's lost the pulse of today's music scene.
I mean.. I jus cant imagine him do a trance track or a hiphop. But that doesnt mean, only these two genres make up the music scene.
It's jus that, he's up-to-date.. w/ the 80's. :(
