Gautham Menon's romantic tale
By Moviebuzz
Monday, 05 January , 2004, 11:09
Gautham Menon has started work on his new film Chennayil Oru Mazhai Kalam after the stupendous success of Kaakha Kaakha. This romantic film with Surya in the lead has started rolling in Visakhapatanam. The film will be produced by Telugu producer Sreenivasa Raju. Gautham had spend a month at the Taj Residency in Kochi recently watching the rains and sipping coffee at the upmarket and fashionable hang-out place, “Coffee Beanz” opposite the Taj. He wrote the script there.
According to Gautham: “Chennayil Oru Mazha Kalam is a simple, slice-of-life romantic story”. The music is by Harris Jayaraj. Abhirami who was considered as heroine is now dropped, as she is taller than the hero. Now Trisha and the Telugu actress Asin are is being considered by Gautham.
Meanwhile Gautham is also directing the Telugu version of Kaakha Kaakha with Venkatesh but opted out of its Hindi version with Fardeen Khan.
Surya-Trisha pairup again!
- 07-01-2004
‘Kaaka Kaaka’ director Goutham’s next film is going to be ‘Chennaiyil Oru Mazaikaalam’.
Everybody has fallen in love with the title already.
“This is a delicate love story. There is some action too. The screenplay was written during the monsoon. Like ‘Kaaka Kaaka’, this film too is going to create a new horizon for Surya, music director Harris Jayaraj and myself,” says director Goutham.
Surya and Trisha are going to be the lovers soaked in the rain. The film is expected to be released in the month of May or June this year.
A dream role for Asin!

The year has begun with a bang for Asin, the Kochi girl who has made rapid strides in Telugu films.
Asin made her debut in a Malayalam film but failed to get noticed there. Later she was spotted by Puri Jagannath who cast her opposite Ravi Teja in Amma Naana O Tamila Ammayi, in which she played a Tamil girl. The film went on to be one of the hits in 2003.
Asin is just back from New Zealand after the song picturisation with Balakrishna for Lakshmi Narasimha. She has been signed by hot-shot director Gautham Menon to do the Telugu remake of the Tamil super hit Kaakha Kaakha opposite Venkatesh. This meaty role that Jyothika did in the original was appreciated by everyone.
And now Asin is the chosen one to be the heroine of rising star Surya in Gautham’s Tamil film Chennayil Oru Mazha Kalam. Apparently Asin is lucky to bag the right kind of roles at the right time.

It's rainy season in Chennai
Kaaka Kaaka fame Gautam's new flick Chennayil Oru Mazhai Kaalam, starring Surya, is in production from today. Gautam has already impressed us with his an amazing screnplay in KK. This time he is coming back with the same crew except for Jyothika.
The ad today in tamil dailies for the film is intriguing. It is an old rusted photo frame. Behind the glass of the frame is a digital outline of the world atlas and water drops sprinkled all over the frame. Also super-imposed is a monologue that is written in tamil slang. It talks the difference between love and liking. What's up Gautam, this time ?.

Chennaiyil Oru Mazhai Kalam
Following the success of Kaakha Kaakha , director Gautam Menon and Surya team up for another movie. The movie titled Chennayil Oru Mazhai Kalam supposedly a romantic thriller has gone on to the floors.
The film with Surya in the lead role was shot in Vishakapatnam a few days back. Produced by Telugu producer Sreenivasa Raju, Chennaiyil Oru Mazhai Kalam will be released by middle this year.
On the movie, Gautham says, 'Chennayil Oru Mazha Kalam is a simple, slice of life romantic story'.
Following the success of Kaakha Kaakha, music director Harris Jayaraj teams up again with Gautam.
Kaakha Kaakha, which dwelled on the life of an honest cop starring Surya and Jyothika was a mega hit last year. Considered a big break in actor Surya's career, the movie caught the attention of film-makers in various languages. Surya has followed Kaakha Kaakha with a stunning performance in Pithamagan and he is currently busy in director Manirathinam's forthcoming movie and one under the AVM banner.
It is said that Gautam Menon will himself be directing the Telugu version of Kaakha Kaakha, which will star actor Venkatesh in the cop's role. Meanwhile, actor Feroz Khan has acquired the rights to produce the movie in Hindi and his son Fardeen Khan will play the lead role.

‘Chennaiyil Oru Mazhai Kaalam’
- 17.03.2004
Surya-Goutham’s new film ‘Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikaalam’ is creating huge expectation amidst fans. But, the film’s shooting is happening quietly. Tamil cine industry has lot of directors- Balu Mahendra and Bala, who make emotional films, Cheran, Thangar Bachchan and others who pick up village based subjects and Manirathnam who makes technically brilliant films. But, there was no one to make commercially successful action films like Hollywood. Now, we have director Goutham.
Goutham is teaming up with Surya again. The film has been very artistically named ‘Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikaalam’. The Manirathnam-AR Rehman magic is recreated by the Goutham-Harris Jayaraj team. Soundtracks of films like ‘Minnalae’ and ‘Kaaka Kaaka’ were massive hits.
Surya sings a song in the film. He was very reluctant, but, Goutham and Harris Jayaraj wouldn’t let him go. They had to almost drag him to the recording studio to make him sing. The ‘Kaaka Kaaka’ successful pair of Surya-Hyothika are going to unite once again for this film.
