I know that I just can't be an international classical musician(not a single international albums released to substantiate that claim) & still I have decided to list my name there for the sake of my fans. So Kupusamy, Munusamy and every single individual can go & add their names on that web site. I also know that only my fans (No1 idiots)would pick this one up and open a thread here to argue "coal" is "gem". My fans(like Venki) making this forum a joke....

I am Rahman here. When there are people to believe that my CDs outnumbered britney and madona put together when no international countdown features BD songs, there is no surprise in people believing this news.

That's good Are Yaar!. JJ was telling me about IR's name appearing in the Guinness book. I wonder whether his name got there like this (I am not advising you to do the same) ???

IR fans you don't have to go to the roof and shout that he is great. True music doesn't need any publicity other than fan following.

ST i think Guinness record is true. Because no one has composed music for 800 films to the best of my knowledge. Even some people who started their career in 50s have not completed even 500 movies. Aswathama if you are a true musically knowledgable you cannot possibly say IR is bad even if IR fans abuse ARR. If you still say that then it automatically proves you do not know anything about even basic music. ARR tried everything possible to stay completely different from IR. The only he could do is by changing singers, changing instruments, improving recording. I was thrilled in the beginnings. It was good as far as it went. Over a period i lost interest in his music as his liking to pop tunes has severely affected his composing. Most of his songs are the direct import of pop tunes with slight modifications here and there. Only thing is original pop tunes are peppier. I would rather listen to original tunes than his 'tamilicized' version. Probable reason is some ARR fans do not listen to recent english songs. He completely lacks originality. His Back ground music for movies are probably the worst i have ever heard!!!
Over all he is a disappointment for a music fan like me. His popularity is largely due to the extensive ad. campaign launched by Bollywood biggies. Illayaraja is never after popularity.
It is only ARR who is after popularity. Collabarating with Andrew Lloyd Webber is much easier job than entering into RPH. Peppy musics always get good reviews!! In classical music, be it is carnatic or hindustani or western, ARR's "so called talent" will be ripped open by critics. That's why he never tried any of the above. He cannot possibly succeed in any of the classical music because he is simply not good enough. I am a Pre-KK ARR fan. But i would say he is no match for IR in verstaility and giving music in its purest form.
But This one i think may not be credible. Sorry for starting the thread!!

Because no one has composed music for 800 films to the best of my knowledge.
You might be right about TFM, not otherwise. In TeFM, Chakravarthy had composed music for a whopping 959 movies, most of which are in telugu. He has the record of composing music for 66 movies(!) in one year beating many known records in the whole of Indian film music scene. He started his career, I think, in 1970/71. He was an extremely prolific composer during the 70s and part of 80s until, of course, IR came into the picture.
So, I am not too sure about this Guinness Records thing!
In classical music, be it is carnatic or hindustani or western, ARR's "so called talent" will be ripped open by critics. That's why he never tried any of the above. He cannot possibly succeed in any of the classical music because he is simply not good enough
Yet another meaningless ARR criticism. Try to search for all ARR songs and see how well he has incorporated carnatic/western classical into it so subtly. Take "Ottagathai kattiko" in Dharmavathi, "En veettu thotathil" with some Neelambari, "Narumugayae, Kannodu kanbadellam" etc etc and the list goes on. And don't forget Duet and Sangamam. And very recently, the magnificent "Adhisaya thirumanam" (what a song!). A true music fan will never ignore such talent and say "he is simply not good enough" - an absolutely irresponsible, baseless statement.
He has his own style of delivering music. If you don't like it, so be it. But don't go around declaring he is not good. We have no idea what your credentials are to believe you!

I was trying to say that IR doesn't need cheap publicity. We HCIRF fans are ridiculing ourselves by publishing IR name in some mediocre websites. All the music genuises accept IRs knowledge with music is vast.
ARR has limited knowledge with music at the sametime he knows the current trend. He also knows his limitations by accepting only few films/year and takes a long time to compose music. If he is asked to record in fast phase then he comes up with a product with few hit songs.

I strongly disagree with you Kaumudi!! Everysong will have some raaga!!! He never composes songs based on raagas. He composes rhythm which obviously fall under some raagas. Even dog barking is based on some raaga. He is just a rythm based composer. That can be understood from the way he is not able to maintain the mood of the song throughout. If you have a keyboard and know little music just play it and experiment it.
You strictly don't have to have carnatic background to score music for Tamil movies. When i say he is not good enough i say he is not good enough to be bracketed with Illayaraja. He has hardly composed 300 songs. Either it is like peppy songs like Muqabala, Arabikadaloram, Chikku pukku rayile or soft songs like Ennavale, Vellai Mazhai sung by UK or Hariharan. I can accommodate the entire song list of ARR in one page. Sorry if i am so dismissive of ARR. But the fact of the matter is he is not as good as he is hyped out to be. He is just a composer who experiments a lot.
Since i am one guy who is totally against having songs in movies, i feel ARR doesn't deserve this much hype. My credentials are not much.I have just been a keyboard player for 9 years. My wife is a trained classical singer. She is not giving any concerts. She is just a housewife. We discuss a lot about our music. I don't expect you to accept what i declare. You can still consider him as a divine music director from heaven!! I don't stop you.. By the way i know a thing or two about Western Classic as a friend of mine from Universtiy of Alabama has told me a few things.
I don't blindly accuse ARR.

I think the user (@ 24.130.233.129) is writing lot of "Poi" under the name of "Unmai". He even try to tell us that Andrew Lloyd Webber never listen to recent English songs. He even things ARR popularity in the north is mainly due to extensive ad. campaign launched by Bollywood biggies(in contrast IR neither have good looking nor has produce any good music to sell in north!). Anyway its good laugh for all ARR fans and we will let IR fans continue their dreams which they have started about 10 years ago.

Selling music in North should not be a criteria!!
Then Anu Mallik will be a divine composer!! Hey Ram was a success. I think it is pity the scale they use to judge ARR's talent is his ability to sell his albums in North India. I guess 75% of credit should go to ManiRatnam for he used to make groundbreaking movies. It invariably had ARR's music. Tell me which MD is not successful in Hindi. They are all successful. Everybody got their own market. The crow in the north likes any music that has dance tunes. Following is top 10 rankings from music india online..
1) Devadas - Nusrat Bhar
2) HumRaaz - Sudhakar Sharma
3) Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa - Himesh Reshammiya
4) Sur - M.M.Kreem
5) Maine Dil Tujhko Diya - Daboo Malik
6) Kehtaa Hai Dil Baar Baar - Jatin Lalit
7) Mujhse Dosti Karoge - Rahul Sharma
8) Kaante - Anand Raaj Anand
9) 23rd March 1931 Shaheed - Anand Raaj Anand
10)The Legend of Bhagat Singh - Rahman
Now we shall move to planet bollywood rankings
1) Devadas
2) Mujhse Dosti Karoge
3) Maine Dil Tujhko Diya
4) Sur
5) Kaante
6) Dil Hai Tumhaara
7) Humraaz
8) Paanch
9) Kehta Hai Dil Baar Baar
10)Chor Machaaye Shor
... NO ARR in this list...
Nobody has dominated Hindi films after R.D.Burman and S.D.Burman. So don't try to create an illusion ARR is dominating hindi film!! I.R. scored BGM for Lajja. That explains how much respect they have for IR's genius. Can you imagine someone saying ARR, just score BGM for us. Probably only an insane person will say that for everybody knows he is one of the worst BGM scorer. Even in Tamil in the last three years most popular song was "Vassegara" by HJ. He is not dominating any field. He just hypes things up with his idiotic fans just like Rajini Kanth does.

unmai... If he is a rythm based composer, he can score one or two good numbers and get away with it.. he has scored more than 300 numbers and half of his numbers are raaga based... you might have a keyboard and experiment your stuff and so can I... doesnt mean that you know everything in music and I am a gnana sooniyuam or vice versa... As a classical music fan, I do appreciate Rahman's numbers... not that I adore him or consider him a divine music director... but he puts efforts and you got to accept that he is a good music director..
According to your comments u say that 'I don't blindly accuse ARR' but if you had accused ARR without comparing him with IR and infact without the mention of IR in your postings, I would have accepted your statement.. you sound like some of those ppl who still wants to compare and fight for proving that your man is great... you are losing ur point there my friend... if you feel that your man is the best, you wont even think about comparing him with anyone.. ur posting looks more like a desparate attempt to prove that ARR was good at one time and is not good now... If you call urself knowledgable in music and know a thing or two about western music, then it's a pity that what u've learnt was not the right stuff...
