spb, one among the greatest in the world.

everybody knows that spb is the greatest ever in India. How does he rank among other comparable singers in the world. net friends please provide information on this so that spb's place in the world is properly analysed and known. also net friends are spread throughout the universe and they must have first hand knowledge.

  SPB, what comes to mind when you say the word "SPB". His most divine voice, his humble & bubbly personality, what else.
  
  Well, SPB started his career in 1966 in telugu film,but he never had any muscical training , since then this genius had never looked back, today he is the greatest singer in India, How & what makes SPB stands the tallest out all other singers?, well number of things;
  
  1) His voice is par excellence, he is liked by toddler to a grandad!!!
  
  2) Ability to express emotions extremely well(although TMS & M.rafi were good at this, their voice was not as amazing as SPB's gem voice
  
  3) Without any musical training, the great ability to hold his breath for a very long time! ( mannil intha kadhal enndri, satham illa tha thani mai ketten)
  
  4) SPB is like Sivaji when it comes to Singing, You will just have to tell him the tune once, he would grasp it extremely quickly (commented by MSV,KVM & IR), he then adds his unique style, hence he enchances the song with his magical voice.
  
  5) Ability to sing from high pitch to low pitch, singing from low to high is quite normal, but not from high to low ; eg "veedham athanilum oru naadham", from salangai oli, when he starts frm "gaa ma ne, ga ma ka sa maga sa nee, ne tha pa mane sa,......", & "shankaraaaaa" from the great shankaraparanam, when he brings "aaaaaaa" from high to low, amazing
  
  5) ability to sing any types of songs, but most(99%) other singers like, KJY,M.Rafi,KK,TMS,.... , whose talents are limited, KJY is excellent only in devotional & sad songs, TMS can not sing at low pitches, KK sounds like IR some times, M.rafi could not rock!!
  
  I conclude by saying SPB is gift from god & in valuable treasure to India, se is proud to have this genius SPB as her son!

  Hey..please stop making new threads everyday on SPB. SPB is worth all the praises and deserves more. But be patient / smart enough to find appropriate threads to eulogize him rather than open anew thread every now and then u decide to praise him.

  KJY is limited no doubt, KJY can not modulate as well as SPB, (well no one can), KJY can not express emotions through his voice(apart from devotional, which he is very good at), he can not rock, he looses control at high pitches, his bass is not as heavy as spb's, he has not got a unique style of singing like SPB, nevertheless I do have great respect for KJY after SPB.
  
  KJY is poper carnatic boffin, where else SPB is all "self taught", yet spb is capable as KJY when it comes to carnatic, may be even better than KJY!

  SPB is class of it's won, who can not be compared with other singers in IFM, I agree KJY have done similar achievement (40K songs), but KJY is not multi talented as SPB, KJY is limited, but SPB is unlimited, KJY lacks SPB's excellent Bass & punch, but KJY is also great.
  
  We have consider the fact that, KJY,BMK,UK,SMD,Mano,HH have learnt carnatic, apart from HH who learnt Ghazzels, But what did SPB learn?, nothing, It's all self taught, Are you saying that is not amazing???.
  
  Ghantasala , KJY or BMK would not have sung Shankaraparanam better than SPB, these singers lack modulation & expressing emotions, Can you pls tell me one singer in India, who is better than SPB in expressing emotions (I mean "navarasam").
  
  SPB has also talked for certain actors like Kamal, Mohan, NR, etc films, SPB's voice is same heavy voice as he sings in, Can you tell me any other singer who sounds the same when speaks as well as sing???, I can not think of any, take KJY 4 eg, he sounds different when he talks, than when he sings!
  Most of KJY's songs are "devotional" & "carnatic", but Majority of SPB's songs are cinema songs.
  
  TMS was good at modulation, but no where near SPB, he could not sing any carnatic songs, he often sounded bad at low pitches, since his voice is very good at High pitches.
  
  I think Balamurali Krishna, Ghantasala & SPB have some thing common in thier voices, but SPB has the deepest bass out of all them.

  I agree with both of you in most extent, but to be honest, I was not born when ghantasala was around, though I have many of his songs, I feel he lacks the punch & bass, but SPB is superior to Ghantasala in these aspects, I also feel, That SPB's expression outstands all singers in IFM, I also feel that SPB's voice has very deep bass & punch than of ghantasala.but nevertheless ghantasala was great but not the greatest.
  
  I also agree that being multillingual does not make an individual any better singer, ghantasala was restricted strictly to "telugu" &"tamil", where else SPB is multillingual, that does not make SPB any better than any singers in IFM, but SPB is the greatest out of all singers in IFM, I have heard M.rafi,KJY,Kishor,TMS, PBS,Ghantasala, B.murali Krsihna,M.vasudevan,mano, hariharan, Uk,Shanker.Kumar sanu, Udit narayan,sonu nigam
  
  All of these lack a lot of abilities of SPB, KJY was around for more time than SPB(atleaset 6 years more than SPB), but he also lack something of SPB,
  SPB is excellent in Carnatic, even though he knows nothing of carnatic.
