Here is some statistics of how well the movie is performing from Madras to Kanyakumari....
The movie is houseful till today? Which planet are you living in? To give you a sample of how full the movie was...
Chromepet Vetri Theatre - 15th Evening show - 250 people watched the movie
Villivakkam Royal Theatre - 15th Night show - 300 odd people watched the movie
Nellai Rathna - 15th evening show - 200 people watched the movie. The ticket rates from second day are 5, 10, 15 and 20 and still no takers for the ticket.
Nellai Bombay theatre - it is even worse, poor guy opened his theatre only a year back
Thiruvanmiyur Jayanthi theatre - 16th Aug Noon show maybe 300 people watched the movie
Madurai Mathi and Annamalai theatre - they cancelled all their morning shows
Trichy Rambha, Kaveri and Sona - all 3 put together has a seating capacity of 2500, but on the 16th noon show there were hardly 700 people watching the movie that too at Rs.20 as flat rate
Sankarankoil - it is a disaster from the second show onwards
Kovai KG complex - It is a total washout
Pondicherry Ananda and Ram - 16th Morning show total washout
Madras Sathyam theatre - 16th morning show there were 300 odd people watching the movie at Rs.50 as highest rate
Madras Albert theatre - Published rate is Rs.75, but the counters were selling at less than Rs.50 from the second day (16th Aug)
This is just a sample of how badly (disastrously) the movie is performing all over. Will give more up to date news as soon as I have them. No amount of Rajini's publicity stunts will save this movie from the disaster it is.... If you look at the towns and districts listed here it has no Ramadoss effect so you guys cannot even blame Ramadoss for this.
If this movie should not be called a 'flop' (actually this is the wrong word) then I dont know what is a flop movie.... will come back with more later

dear friends,
BABA film may be a super hit movie, but as an album(audio) it is definetly a bad performence.no doubt about it.
BABA audio is sold like a hot cake in first two days, but after that no body is there willing to buy the audio(even Rajni fans)
Hence , BABA audio is total failure.
I request BABA , please change the MD for his next film(even DEVA is a better choice)

Curses
Thiruvanmaiyoor is a typo... I apologize...
But about Sathyam theatre.. I suggest you go stand there and I am certain you can count the number of people there with your two hands....
About the minimum ticket rates that is only applicable to the first show.. as after that the word spread and the rates came down sharply... again check out the theatre if you are in the vicinity

Baba is one crap of a movie. I have had respect for rajinikanth for his style for the past 20+ years... he spoiled his repitation with just this one movie. IMHO, rajni should concenctrate on acting alone. he tried singing , and all of us know what a "wonderful" singing capability he has. for Baba he wrote the story and screenplay, and it seems he has no flair in that too..

Hi everybody,
Honestly speaking, I am not a Rajni fan, but I wanted to see the movie as it was supposed to be the best of all Rajni movies. Well, it was just the opposite of that. About the movie, the screenplay was bad(sorry, Rajni..), the story line could have been picturised much better, there was unneccessary display of animation and video-graphics, songs cropped up at say the drop of a hat, totally unrelated, Manisha Koirala was bad(somebody should teach her some dress-sense),...oh, well, I can continue endlessly. Sorry, Rajni fans, he did let u and all of us down.
Hoping that Rajni would take this as a lesson and entertain us with some real-Rajni style good entertaining movies in the future...

I have never been a fan of Rajni (I am a Kamal fan). But I have to admit Baba was the first Rajni movie that actually struck a cord in me. I have been told that his mannerisms and dialogues are of lore, but in this movie, he has actually tried to convey a very pertinent message..only the qualified will ever make good rulers! The story of the seven boons, if looked at more closely, simply lets us know that even if supernatural powers are imposed on a person, they are of no use until the intent to use them for good arises within oneself. Rajni has marvellously put together this intricate philosophy in his fantasy of a movie! Kudos, Rajni! I am sure this movie will bring you accolades unlike your other movies which merely left a whole nation bemused!

Dude, I swear - I ain't seen a worse movie in all my life. The story is so weak.... wait, there IS no story - nix, nada, zilch. And it shows that the whole movie was made in under 3 months. Rajni should have gotten out of the movies right after Baasha.
Laurel, MD had 150 when the movie started and less than a 100 when it ended.

There's an unwritten saying somewhere about Tamil movies that if you've seen one, you've seen them all. That said you might want to put this Rajinikanth effort into the pigeonhole as well. Rather than jumping into an erroneous conclusion, I decided to go ahead a give "Baba" a watch before I jump to that aforementioned conclusion.
The first thing that hit me when the movie started was the screening of the credits. Hey, I thought this was the beginning of the movie and not the end of it. An obvious case of culture shock in the cinema for me! But it was more like a big promo for the star of the movie before the show actually began. For those of you still new to Tamil movies, a big star like Rajinikanth in a movie is like a surefire guarantee for box office greatness.
However it's been almost three years since Rajinikanth last appeared in the starring role of any movie so I would guess that the beginning of the movie is sort of like a red carpet to herald his return to the silver screen. I tell you, when the audience in the cinema hall starts clapping when he appears on screen, it's the closest to a religious experience you'll ever get from seeing a movie. I kid you not.
Now back to the movie, we see that a devout but childless couple is visited by a group of gurus and holy men in a Temple who tell them that they will be blessed with a child. Overjoyed with the news, the couple subsequently conceives and become the proud parents to a bouncing baby boy. These religious overtures throughout the beginning of the movie are not made clear until the baby grows up. Then there is a big time gap in the story when the baby named Rajni turns into an adult played by Rajinikanth.
Rajinikanth manages to portray his character of Rajni with a sense of believability; you can't exactly label him as a dashing actor along the lines of Hritik Roshan or Shah Rukh Khan, but he's got a rough charm of his own on screen. Rajni is a lower middle class labourer living somewhere in North Chennai. He's also a do-gooder of sorts who raises his voice (and fist) against injustice and corruption in the place where he resides. Predictably he meets the female counterpart in the form of a television anchor (Manisha Koirala) who comes and assists his good deeds. Classic case of boy meets girl.
Of course we can't do without the villains and soon Rajni gets in the way of a local hotshot who happens to be the son of a local politician. He soon ends up being kidnapped and almost beaten to death. Thinking that he has died the villains chuck his body over a mountain top. All this happens in the first two hours of the movie. As for the remaining hour, you'll have to relinquish whatever beliefs you may have had for a second in order to watch the conclusion. I came in with great expectations for "Baba" but the ending was too sudden. Maybe because the censors also did away with one too many of the mandatory fight scenes from the movie. But I left the cinema feeling sorry that Rajinikanth had been shortchanged in this movie.

seeing ur reports, i guess this is the worst Rajini movie success wise (not for him definitely sicne he has already made big money)... i still remember the so called flop movies (adissaya piravi, Pandian , Sri Raghavendrar, and even Valli) ran atleast for 100 days... The point is that will BABA run for atleast 50 days..
latest reports are that Rajini is already discussing with KS Ravikumar for his next venture...
