These are two films by HJ and Bharani respectively. I was in a VCD shop today in the outscirts of Chennai, where I came thru these two cassettes. When I enquired, the women there said that Manju is Ok but L&G is really good. She was insisting this again and again. Also, CHOCOLATE has nothing better other than a 5-star chocolate with the cassette. She said that overall STAR songs are hit and its sales is in the peak. Theabouve mentioned two films are new releases and please, put your opinions about them here.

I did not see a similar thread about majnu before, because after the problem with newtfmpage, the latest threads do not arrange itself in the bottom. Also, I , to an extend, beleive the opinions of newtfmpage regarding other film MD songs. It proved right for me with TI. I really liked it. So, wanted to know the opinions of fellow DFers before I set out to buy these cassettes.

Hello all,
Heard Majnu songs. IMO, they were far below average. The 1st song by Bombay Jayshree looks like a replica of "Verenna verenna vendum". The Nadhaswaram interlude is same as the one in "Oh Mama Mama". The 2nd song "Gulmohar Malarey" is an ultaa of "Pachai Niramey", including the "Ey.. Oh..." hummings !! The 3rd song by Shankar Mahadevan... I'd better not comment on this. Abysmal !!
I'd better not review the other songs... Mmhmmm !!
What we need today TFM is an MD with individuality..... and not a recycler. Even an ordinary sound engineer like Bally Sagoo can do all this stuff. Remember, MSV, IR and ARR were hugely succesful because of their originality and trdemark stuff !!
Now, HJ is proving to be a onemovie wonder

IsaiPriyan,
I read that Majnu was composed before Minnale. Now that both sound similar, will 12B sound similar to Star? The most important thing is HJ accepts film only after seeing who the director, producer, star cast etc., Neramdaa saami.

Isai prian jee.
Will U pls wait before deciding he is a one movie wonder man.
ARR second film music is utttttttttterrrrrrrr
floooooooooop.
It is only for the best directors he gave good
music Ok.
I feel like U r a ARR fan.
And U dont want any body to compete with him.
It is not U who can decide.
It is the sales of the casett which will decide.
Ok be cool.

I FOUND IT TO BE OF MUCH LOWER QUALITY THAN MINNALE. HJ HAS NOT LIVED UP TO EXPECTATION AND IS TURNING OUT TO BE ANOTHER ONE HIT WONDER.

very good that HJ is selecting movies based on directors stars etc... it takes a lot of courage in this money/politics crazy industry to do it. Its the right thing to do . it raises the bar higher.
if a director can choose a story based on quality. if he can choose actor, MD, cinematographer ect based on quality. If an actor can choose a dir. producer etc based in quality . whats wrong in a MD doing so. appreciate this people. ARR started this trend.

Majnu, I'd say is a decent album. Except the all too glaring ARR kinda feel, its fairly good to listen. Should do well depending on the movie's prospects...but which was the last Prashanth movie that did well???
Gulmohar malare has a very familiar feel to it...no it sounds less like pachai nirame (AP) and very much like the tune of palakaattu machaanukku (May madham) played slowly...even in the end of the 1st and 2nd para the lines resemble the end lines of para 1 and 2 in palakaattu.
The Bombay Jayshree song is damn good, great use of some good raga, very well sung. Yes it does remind you of Minnale's songs overall but thats a stamp of the composer (much like the ARR type stamp, which people love calling - repetition!).
HJ will scrap through, I'm sure. Not a OFW.

as for the comments about gulmohar malare - Mudharkkanave - .. i second u'r views.... they are absolute copies with different lyrics...! pity !!!!
as with the "hari gori bonsayi" - can some one enlighten me of its meaning!!!! thamarai madam, r u the same one who was able to pen vaseegara??? pity u too!!!
as with HJ, i reserve my judgements for a while as he did get my attention with the MG srikumar number(pinju thendrale )!!!! but then again .......may be its a remake too since my knowledge pool is quite restricted when it comes to music!!!
in my opinion what spoils most of the songs are irrelevent interludes that confuse the motion of songs (quite deafening too)
rest assured: these are only my views and would definitely differ to that of others!!!
:-((
Karthik S:
if u the same one as the WM for arrmp3...... any change of heart regarding the site..... 'n hope all Ps are sorted now!!!

yohooo here is my review :-)
Harris Jeyaraj's second album. As they say in cricket, its the second season thats always tougher, its the second album that is always judged with more scrutiny. AR Rehmans "Puthiya Mugam" was dismissed as a recycle of Roja but it did finally go one to become a hit.
So here comes the "Minnale" fame Harris Jeyaraj with his second creation- "Majnu". The expectations after "Minnale are now sky high. He is dubbed by ARR fans as a ARR clone and IR fans as a splendid competition for ARR, albeit 1 level lower than IR. so enough of preview and now to the songs in the eyes(ears) of a common man.
I am writing this review and all my comments and ratings are immediatley on first impression. If this were an ARR album. Firts impressions arent a good indicator. I dunno abt HJ
Gulmohar Malare:
This song will obviously be compared to pachai nirame because of the similarty in strings and the similar pace both songs have. Hariharan's voice is also all to familiar. But I personally choose to ignore the similarity. I feel this song independently has its appeal.
Good song . I can close my eyes and visualize myself in kashmir or a forest somewhere :-). Timmy and Anupama fade away as p[art of the back ground and are not noticable.
Rating: 7/10.
Hari Gori:
sounds like punjabi folk but I cant place my finger on its category, it falls into the category of "velli Malare" in jodi. A good pleasant song rendered by Anuradha Sriram, Ganga, Febi, Tippu, Karthik, Devan Anuradha Sriram, Ganga, Febi, Tippu, Karthik, Devan febi, anuradha sriram, devan, ganga tippu and karthik.
Rating: 6/10
Mercury Melea: Another fast paced song like the one "samba samba" in Love birds. But sorry for the ARR comparison, I dont suggest its similar but just trying to categorize. This songs is a sort of a rap-ish hip-hopish pop song. although "hussuse hussuse" meaning is something we need to start an R&D effort. More meaningless pseudo-words because lyricist cant think of any better. Its like the olden day drama where if the actors forget dialogues they will laugh loudly until they remember them.
Rating: 7/10
Mudhal Kanave:
This certainly will be compared to "ivan yaaro, ivan yaaro" from minnale. But this song really seduces you. And except the beginning I wudnt dare say there r similarities with "ivan yaaro". Bombay Jayashre who is coming back into cinema prominence after "narumugaye" and "vaseegara" and Harish raghavendra have rendered this song. Both voices really awesome. the humming in the middle is slightly jarring and couldve been avoided.
Rating 7.5/10.
Pada Pada Pattampoochi:
This is a Hindi style song. In old hindi movies there will be a men group on stage singing and on the other side u will have a female group competing with them on the song. This song is similar to such songs . I have an irresistable urge to compare it with "varaha nadhi karai oram" but again will resist the comparison :-)
Other than the obvious Shankar Mahadevan, this song features Krishnaraj and Kavitha subramaniam.
Rating: 6/10
Pinju Thendrale: Sung by MG Sreekumar and Sandhya. A slow, sort of semi-sogam kind of song with non-chalant music in the BG. Again I have the irresistable urge to compare with "en mel vizhunda mazhai thuliye" from Maymadham But I will resist the urge again :-). this song moves from being gazal-ish to carnatic music kindish. I actually like this song. Sandhya's voice jitters in high pitch:-). At the end of the song HJ has done a different kinding of mixing to get sandhyas voice starting new lines in quick sucession.
Rating : 7/10
In summary I wud say this album is definitely worth buying. Like rahul Dravid and ARR, HJ has made only an average impression in the second round.
Overall Album rating: 7/10.
