Bharadwaj together with a core group of singers are in Malaysia right now, performing a concert in Genting Highlands in conjunction with Vaanavil's Sixth Anniversary.
Since the programme is being trasmitted "live" over Vaanavil, let me attempt to provide TFM page's first ever live telecast!

The programme promises to be an exciting event.
For the first time ever a MD, i.e Bharadwaj, is compering a concert. According to him, Vanavil wanted to do something different, resulting in him compering the show.
Bharadwaj appears very good with a silk shirt and a Nehru collared jacket. Professionalism at its best.
He begins the show by inviting SP Bala on stage. SP bala appears, also in jacket to a thunderous applause and accompanies by fireworks. He sings Bharadwaj's first ever song from Kaathal Mannan, Unnai paartha pinbu naan. The music dominates sometimes overpowering SP Bala's golden voice, but still SPB makes an impact.
Bharadwaj sings the next song, Avaravar vaazhkkaiyil aayiram aayiram maatranggal from Paandavar Boomi. He misses the cue bust saves the situation soon enough!
He also informs the audience that he didn't originally plan to sing the song, but sang it as a track song. However, the Director loved it and felt that the mood was what he wanted and so the track song became the film song!

Bharadwaj said that he loved this song as it is so peaceful and even the next song is going to be such.
Surprise, surprise! Anuradha Sriram came on stage wearing jeans and a baseball cap reversed, breaking into O-podu, sending the crowd into a mad frenzy!
Accompanyng dancers were good too. Anuradha then said that the song is a phenomenal success and she never expected it. She thanked Bharadwaj for giving her the opportunity and said even her children went A podu, B podu, C podu, O podu! She alos recounted the story of a 80 year old madisar maami who said that her O podu song "nanna irukkathadi." :)
Unnikrishnan came on stage and he was usual humble and handsome self. He sang Enakkena piranthaval neeyo from Paarthen Rasithen together with Vanavil Talent Quest winner Alinda. He was dressed in a turtle necked t-shirt with a matching jacket.
After a long time, I am impressed with how our stars are carrying themselves.

Next to come on stage is Sujatha. Bharawaj says that she has done 2000 concerts with KJ Jesudoss since she was a child.
He also says she is generous in assenting to sing a song not originally sung by her. Accompanying her is SP Bala. Again thunderous applause. He will also sing a song not originally sung by him in Tamil.
SP Bala warms the heart of the audience by saying it does not matter who sang a song as long as the song was good. The crowd goes crazy!
The song is Mottukale mottukale from Rijaa Koottam.
Krishnaraj & Shalini come on stage now. Bharadwaj says that he had always wanted to do a folk song. But like all songs these days, teh song sequence was shot in Switzerland! The song? Katta katta from Gemini!
Bharadwaj sings a duet now from Pandavar Boomi, Thozha thozha. He seems to be totally at ease.

Next song is a song with one of the most number words in TFM history.
Bharadwaj said that the song was written first written by Vairamuthu and then set to music. This song was supposed to capture the entire lifestyle of a man. When wondering who would be the best person to sing the song, the consensus was SP Bala (roar in the crowd!). SP Bala came on stage dressed in bush jacket and said that he will reveal something. It is not possible to sing the song without breathing he said. That was a result of recording gimmick. He mentioned he wil sing and take gasps of breath in between and the audience had to give applause. :)
He missed a few lines here and there and managed to breath (thank god) :)

SP Bala thanks everyone for being so kind to him not only for his this song but for the last 36 years. He says he is touched by the love and affection shown by his fans.
Bharadwaj and Shalini then sang a song (unknown to me) Kaatril paranthu vantha autograph. Fast number with good dancing.
Ever smiling Unnikrishnan & Sujatha come on stage to sing Orey oru punnagai from Vijayakanth's Rajjyam. Bharadwaj says that alsthough the movie was not a hit, this song is one of his favourite melodies.

Songs are an integral part of movies these doays. Producers and Directors feel the pressure to make songs a hit and no expense is spared. Bharadwaj said that every MD spends a lot of time and energy on each song and there is always a fear whether the song will not be a hit.
He recounted an incident when he told a musician to play the small "re" (of the musical notes) instead of the ig "re." The producer said that since they were already spending a lot of money, why don;t he use the big "re"! Such is the intense pressure these days.
Krishnaraj was invited to sing Mahaganapathy from Amarkalam. Bharadwaj said that this song is now played at every Vinayagar Chathurthi. He probably didn't know that this song is banned in Malaysia (for religious sensitivities). :)
Next song was Penoruthi pennoruthi ably sang by SP Bala.

Bharadwaj plays Happy birthday tune for Astro Vaanavil and says a few obligatory words in praise of Valavil (deserving too) and one of the finalists of Talent Quest Murali Tharan sings Paarthen paarthen paarthen.
A word about the back-up dancers: They were excellent and their costume change was astounding. Once thing is for sure - no expense has been spared for this concert.
The next song from the 45-member team is Apple penne from Roja Kootam. Bhuvaneswaran another of the finalists of Talent Quest sings the song.
So far all the Malaysian singers have been excellent.
If any other Malaysian is also watching the programme, please give your input especially on details I may have missed.

Bharadwaj says he has done very few films - aboout 10 to 15. Next song is Deewana deewana from Gemini. Shalini sings the song.
Bharadwaj is apparently very happy of the picturisation of this song (holi pandigai, if I am not mistaken).
Another finalist of Talent Quest, Anbarasan sings Kidaikala kidaikala from Parthen Rasithen. Curiously enough, all Malaysian singers sport earrings in one ear. :)
Next SP bala is called on stage!
He is to sing a Hindi song. Bharadwaj asks him the difference between singing in the North and South. SP Bala says it is easier to sing Hindi songs as they are less complicated. As an example he says Tamils songs may take him 30 mins but Hindi just a mere 15 mins.
When asked how he can sing so well is so many languages, SPB says that it is "necessity" and that one must not think that one's own language is the most beautiful and that all languages are beautful in its own right. Most of all he said it was "aandavanin anugraham."
He sings Tere mere beech mein.

Unodu vaazhatha vaazhvu is sang by Asha Latha a finalists of Talent Quest.
After a long break anuradha Sriram came on stage to sing Penne penne (I didnt know know this song). When asked to comment on the song Anuradha, dressed in a lovely Churidhar this time, said that Ramani Bharadwaj was the first MD to give her a chance to sing in her first solo song in a Kannada movie. Apparently this song was shortlisted for National awards. Penne penne is a nice semi classical song with modern beats.
I think the organisers have done a great job. Each song followed another without any glitches or irritating drum practicing. Very professionaly done. Definitely lots of rehearsals and planning has taken place. Thumbs up to Vaanavil & Bharadwaj!
Vikkuthe vikkuthe (which movie?) is sung next by Sujatha & Bhuvaneswaran. We are now almost 2 and half hour into the programme.

Now comes the boring part of any programme.
Honourable Ministers Samy vellu and Subramaniam are invited to stage....
SP Bala was invited to say a few words. He congratulated the Malaysian singers and said that he was surprised at the amount of talents here. He also advised them not to imitate other singers and instead create their own style. Imitation may earn some applause but the praise is temporary. Of course SP Bala is not aware that Malaysian music is not as evolved as Indian music and that no singer in Malaysia works full-time.
He then praised Bharadwaj by saying that he was magnamious as not many MDs would want other's songs to be sung. He then proceeded to sing Sankara from Sankarabaranam.

Unnikrishnan & Anuradha pair up for the first time on stage to sing Enna ithu enna ithu (I have fallen in love) from Rojaa Vanam.
Anuratha connects with the crowd frequently.
Anuradha is dressed in a black salwar kameez while Unni is in black jeans and black T wth red overtop. Glamour is the keyword here. I am impressed with dressing throughout the concert.
Gone are the days of sandals, slippers, untucked t-shirts and unkempt appearance. Simply great.
Krishnaraj & Shalini sing Suppama suppama from Roja Koottam, which Bharadwaj claims to be a thathuva song. :)

SP Bala now sings an old Hindi song, the lovely Yay mera prem path.
Sujatha then sings Pranayamani, a Malayalam song next.

Bharadwaj recounted his Malaysian experience. His first visit was three years ago in 2000 and since then he has come about 8 times both for personal visits as well as for post production purposes. He is indebted to his fans here.
Unni & Reshmi presented Oru poo ezhuthum kavithai from Bharadwaj's 2nd movie Pooveli. Apparently one of Unni's favourite songs, being beautifully orchestrated.
Ithukku enna artham, the current prospective chart topper, from Junction, was performed by the boys from the band.
Bharadwaj just made a confession!
He said that he was inspired by Malaysian songs when composing O podu and this Ithukku enna artham and he thanked the groups!
