An effort to remember at least 1000 good, popular hits of IR. No, this thread is not simply to list them! Please give running serial number & each of the song should have some nice comments about them...and no repetitions please!

  Oops!
  I just found another repeat in the 500's, Kuyile, kuyile of Aan Paavam has been repeated! Hence I'm plaing another great number from Kadal meengal in place of that: `Endrendum anandhame' by MV - The orchestration for this song had definitely been ahead of time in IFM!

  Nilave, Malare is by MSV
  Aadi velli too is not by IR (my list upto 1997, -courtesy film news Anandan downloaded from www.tamil.dk- does not have this)
  M V Neram too is not listed!
  (there are others like `Manaivi ready', `manaivi solle mandhiram' under IR!)

  before i could bounce back into the thick of things, the 1000-mark has been crossed.
  
  udhaya,
  i fully agree with u. there must be some value addition to this dbase, such as time frame, genre, significance and maybe even the raga. my idea was to create an index in the first place, and then go about dissecting each song as a group. once eden is through with removing repeats, we can think in terms of replacing some songs that really don't deserve a place in raja's top 1000.
  
  can we all chip in and create such dbases for top-notch performers like TMS, PS, MSV, KJY, SPB? i am dying to collect the best of PS and badly need help in this regard.

  rep 9: Athi marappoovidhu from Saadhanai by SJ - claimed to be a Hindusthani number, really melodious!
  
  rep 10: Poo potta dhavani by SPB/SJ in Kakki sattai: Nice orchestration!
  
  rep 11: Aasai adhikam vachu by SJ in Marupadiyum: great song! Got lifted straightaway by a Malayalam MD for the original of Muthu (Thenmaavin kombathu)!

  I'm giving a list of songs (that may have been overlooked) that I think belong in the top 1000. Forgive repetitions as I don't have the time to check all 1000+ songs listed here.

  1011) Pani Mazhai Vizhum
  1012) Oh Nenjamae Idhu Un Raagamae
  1013) Dhaagam Edukkira Neram
  
  At least two of the songs above were sung by Dheeban Chakravarthy, the female singer could be SP.Shailaja or Jenci, I'm not sure. All three songs had excellent orchestration, varying charanam interludes and novel lyrics.

  1014) Paadhak Kolusuch Chaththam Nadhiyil Kaetkuthu (SPB)
  Florid lyrics with SPB melting away.
  
  Muththukkaalai
  1015) Punnai Vanaththuk Kuyilae (SPB, SJ)
  A somber love duet beautifully conceived by the singers and IR.
  
  Aaraadhanai
  1016) Ilam Panith Thulir Vizhum Naeram (don't know the female singer)
  Excellent atmospheric music that's almost topped by VM's lyrics.
  1017) Oru Kungumach Chengamalam (SPB)
  A spectacular melody, a near-perfect song in many ways.
  
  Chinnap Pasanga Naanga?
  1018) Mayilaadum Thoappil Maanaadak Kandaen (SPB, SJ)
  A great folksy number. One of IR's best in the 90s.
  
  Nandhavanath Theru
  1019) Velli Nilavae Velli Nilavae (SPB, IR)
  Another treat from the magical combo of RVU and IR. IR's harmonic background vocals to SPB's lead was very refreshing.
  
  December Pookkal?
  1020) Kadaloadu Nadhikkenna Kobam (SPB)
  A lyrical feast with so many shifts in the charanam lines aided by all the traditional instruments.
  
  Anbae Odivaa
  1021) Azhagaana Pookkal Malarndhaadumae (SPB)
  A brooding, mellow ballad.
  
  1022) Kanavoadu Aengum (SJ)
  Same tune as the previous song, but the best in the soundtrack. IR uses great acoustic guitars and
  piano along with tabla and violins.
  
  1023)Joadi Nadhigal (SPB)
  A great song. Though the mood is mellow the lyrics show optimism. Based on a rare ragam.
  
  Unknown movie
  1024) Thendralae Nee Paesu Un Kangalaal Nee Paesu (sounds a lot like PBSreenivas)
  Sounds like a ghazal lament. An extraordinary song.

  1025) Sammadham Solla Vandhai (Jayachandran and SJ)
  A great tune aided by spare musical arrangement.
  
  Buvanaa Oru Kaelvikkuri
  1026) Poondhendralae Nalla Naeram Kaalam Saerum (Jayachandran and VJ?)
  Upbeat tune with great flute, guitar interludes.
  1027) Maegamae Thoodhaagavaa Azhagin Aaraadhanai (SPB, PS?)
  Another upbeat tune with energetic music, a mark of IR's young and wild days. Kannadhaasan or Panju wrote the great lyrics which puts the song in permanent memory.
  
  Kaatrinilae Varum Geetham
  1027) Oru Vaanavil Poalae En Vaazhivilae Vandhaal (Jayachandran and SJ)
  One of the greatest flute preludes to a song. A classic blend of flute, tabla and violin.
  
  Jothi
  1028) Sirichchaa Kolli Malai Kuyilu (SPB, SJ)
  A great folksy duet where the lyrics are pure and simple and the singing isn't rushed under the power of music.

  1029) Aahaayam Aenadi Azhugindrathu…Anbae En Anbae Azhuvathu Aahaathu (SPB)
  The mood shifts from consolation to celebration. SPB rules as usual. The music is reminiscent of Holi songs in HFM (easy there fan-club I'm not saying that IR copied it)
  
  Un Kannil Neer Vazhindhaal
  1030) Kannil Enna Kaargaalam (SPB, SJ)
  My favorite sad song by IR. VM and SPB at their sensitive best.
  
  
  Themmaangu Paadalgal
  IR ruled this genre and set new standards in it. I feel we should definitely include a good number of songs from this genre:

  1031) Aaththu Maettula Oru Paattu Kaekkuthu (MV, SJ)
  A must have in any collection. A great dance number.
  
  some Rajini movie
  1032) Sandhaikku Vandha Kili (SPB, SJ)
  My most favorite Themmaangu by IR. This song could serve as an index for folk rhythm instruments.
  
  
  Aboorva Sahodharargal
  1033) Annaaththai Aaduraar (SPB)
  I bet that even pious classical musicians secretly dance to this in their bathrooms. SPB and IR bring the roof down with this blazing number.
  
  Paandinaattu Thangam
  1034) Aelaelak Kuyilae Aezhai Mana Veyyilae (SPB)
  A fast number with breezy lyrics. SPB is a custom fit for this one.
  
  Ilamai Oonjalaadukirathu
  1035) Thanni Karuththurukku (MSV)
  A great themmaangu that's very apt for the tricky situation in the movie. The mandolin music is unforgettable.
