Ilayaraaja in Malaysia!

Here is the excerpt from this afternoon's "Malay Mail"

Famous Indian composer Ilaiyaraja, who has composed 3,500 songs for 700 films, is launching his book Vazhi Thunai tommorow at Auditorium DBKL at 7.30 pm.
Works minister and MIC President Datuk Seri Dr. S. Samy Vellu is guest of honour.
The event is organised by Swaralayya Enterprise which promotes fine arts and literary works.
Ilaiyaraja learnt Carnatic and Western music and obtained his grade 8 in Trinity College of Music in London where he passed with flying colours and walked away with the gold medal.
Hailed as a maestro for his performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, he has also been awarded a string of other titles.
He's a three-time recipient of India's National Award for Music in 1984, 1986 and 1988.
In 1994, Ilaiyaraja was confered honourary citizenship of Teanech Township by the Teanech in New Jersey, John Abraham.

  well guys,i was there during the launch of "vazhi thunai"....actually i was immensely looking forward to that day..and after much traffic crawl i was there at auditorium DBKL, where the launch was held.i was late by 15 minutes...as i entered IR and all other VIPs were already seated..and..IR was in the miidle on the stage like king encompassed by his ministers..IR was really calm, cool ,but his eyes were restless..he really listened to everybody's speech carefully.there were so many praises...loud claps from the audiens and everybody were very respectful..he was treated like a saint..i could see that from the silence and respect given by his fine audiens( i was one of them )...IR was stated as the composer of the next century...it is true indeed...but whenever praised IR was just cool,with his head bowed and grin on the face...how magnificent...i was lucky to get a glimpse of a great maestro like him.i got to go...i shall continue later....

  One of the reasons I could not give the article in its entirety is because I needed time to write it (in between my work demands). I didn't want to keep anybody, including Sree, up.

  buddy - congratulations! Even I could not sleep after that function, as I kept on reliving the evening. It would have been nice if you had enquired whether he had read the letter SK had written. But of course I understand your position. :-))

  You are uniting us with one thread like no one else before. I mean each one of us is trying, but you topped it all. I think you are a blessed person. I have met Raja in person two or three times at LV Prasad studios, Chennai. In the eighties, a good part of my college days were spent just watching this greatest musical magician perform. Since then, I had decided not to spent time trying to create music. There is only one way to do it and that is to do it like Illaiyaraja!
  
  I am eager to get the book and also the thesis written by Anuradha Sriram.
  
  Sree, Sathya, Siva, folks I have a feeling that Raja may soon launch his symphony as his visits to Malayasia, Singapore is a good indication that he is assessing for himself what the heck is going on in the contemporary musical situation. Believe me, he can be on a visit to the US too soon!

  NOV, You really held some many IR devotees together in this thread for the whole of yesterday. Congrats! Your report was just like the one by any another professional News reporter and it had the touches of typical Ananda vikatan's report of IR's function.
  
  As Nithin mentioned, Isaignani would have assessed himself on what the heck is going on in the contemporary musical situation in his visits to Singapore/Malaysia. I feel that NOV and buddy would have asked him about Symphony in Malaysia and SIN respectively and expressed our eagerness about it. Did we made any strong desire regarding Symphony in our letter?
  
  Anyway, next time our group should be better prepared anytime we meet that Musical Saint.

  sorry for repetition..actually there was a problem with the server here when i attempted to post my comments....more news on IR's symphony...it seems that IR is underway to release his symphony pretty soon.he has found the right company to release and there are talks on royalty and money involved.....i read this news on a local tami9l daily..any more news about it...?well i'm from UTM .skudai ,johor.

  Sathiya Keerthi - Isaignani said that he was not responsible for the cancellation of the TV interview and Phone-in. "Medeiyil solla mudiyaatha kaaranam," was all that he said. :-((
