What is Contribution? It means doing some thing that has never been done before. Or playing a significant role. In Thamizh, the word that comes to mind is "puratchi."
I believe every aspect of our great Isai Gnani has been explored in this forum except for a particular genre of songs. In this particular kind of songs, Ilayaraja is the mudisoodaa mannan. No one from MSV, KVM, ARR can touch Ilayaraja in this matter.
Okay, enough of this, let me get to the matter at hand. I urge all Fans, Fanatics, Dissenters and everyone else to contribute to this thread. Let me do the Pillayar Suzhi:
1. Nethu rathiri yemma (ursurpassed description of what happened)
2. Nilaa kaayuthu (who would have thought that munungals can be put to tune)
3. Antha nilavathaan naa kaiyule pudichen (by the master himself)
4. Eduthu vach paalum virichu vacha paayum (if music can be sexy, this is it)
5. Maaman oru naal malliyapoo koduthaan (innocent but deadly)
6. Orampo orampo rukkumani vandi varuthu (no doublespeak here - every thing is direct)
7. Raathiriyil poothirukkum (what a romatic song!)
8. Vaada vaattuthu (yet another masterpiece by the master himself)

yaaro, u r not invited to make personal observations on me based on posts which I made in another thread, or this thread for tat matter. I'll let u know if i need ur esteemed opinions.
If not, stuff it.
I too can reciprocate ur behaviour, if u insist.
...since we DO agree, what is there to argue?...
good question. now ask that question to urself. u didnt seem like u knew the answer too well when u posted lyrics for aadhavan to translate and told tigger something about 'convincing' these chaps.

Gowri, plus the title of the thread is
"Greatest Contribution of Ilayaraja to TFM"
You left it open to interpretation. If you had wanted discussion only on IR's vulgar songs then you should have made the title more explicit, then I would have just registered my protest and made a quick exit.
Maybe I was being a little overly optimistic here trying to have a discussion on what actually was IR's greatest contribution, but that's probably going to be another thread since you guys (anti-IRs) are obviously running the show in this one.

The bottom line of this thread seems to be that IR takes the credit (or the blame depending on whether you are WhyNot - or not :-)) for all the bawdy lyrics and the vulgar and obscene picturisations. By the same token, does he also get the credit (or the blame depending on, once again, whether you are WhyNot - or not :-)) for songs from movies like nizhalgaL, mudhal mariyAdhai et al?

Yaaro
I am shocked! Ennada pollatha vaazhkkai is a song from the movie, Thappu Thaalangal, by the late Vijaya Bhaskar and I quoted it in memoriam.
I am shocked that you do not know this.
It is alright if fans of a particular artiste immerse themselves in their prefered artiste's works. But to pass derogatory statements of other artistes without having an iota of knowledge of their contributions..... I am lost for words.

I only responded with the list of village songs, when you said that you were not aware of many before Ilayaraja. Let us not carry this any further. India is a agriculture based country and it would be ridiculous if there had not been many village songs. Unless you disagree with me, let us give this matter a rest.

You know it, I know it. Anyone who reads the postings in this thread will know it.
There are people who get pleasure in engaging in a discussion and there are some others who get pleasure in just getting heard. You should be able to separate the wheat from the chaff (or in this context, rice from the husks.) :)

gowri,
I am sure I have been around longer than u-I very well know that was a film song.give me a break.I have seen that movie.Podhuma?you people made the same conclusion in the beginning of the thread when I replied politely that i did not know your sarcastic intention in starting the thread.ok.I know to seperate the wheat from chaffs etc.
I can answer all your provocative statements with your postings from this and other statements-but since I am sure other dfers will be least interested in our ego clashes,I propose we get on with our mutual lives and leave others in peace.

and you quoted the song wrong-it was
Yaara ninachi namma pethaalo amma-and not
//Yaara ninachi namma pethaalum kooda //
amma rhymes with summa.believe that i have heard that song?

Looks like you have been busy asking around. :)
If you had known the existence of such a song, surely you would not have made that uncalled for comment yesterday.
Are you sure you have been around longer than I have? Or is that another careless statement, made in haste?

Speaking of camps, yaaro, you should rightfully belong to ours (if indeed there was one), since you have admitted that Ilayaraja is the king of this genre. :)
Let us hear from the others.

yaaro,
i agree it's a good idea too for u to stop posting in this thread (and yes, even run away) since u don't seem to be able to think of anything more than personal attacks (eg. you are becoming a bore, hell hath no fury, etc etc etc...(yawn)...).
i commend ur decision.
btw, which old dfers were u talking about? Those who were around and left when u were posting here (probably along the same range of personal attacks tat we see now), but when I hadn't started posting here yet? Hmm, do I wonder wat drove them away.
Hmmm... (@ 206.175.176.2)
Your post shows u have absolutely no idea what my opinion of this whole matter has been. Since u wish to put down my id (WhyNot), why don't u first flip back a few pages and see what I had written on this topic?
I repeat it here for ur privilege:

Though this thread has been amusing to follow, I really miss the point. So IR's songs have more sexual content, but so what? It's not a big deal. I dont see why IR fans need to deny it. It probably had to do with the way tamil cinema evolved in those days. Even the background dancers who used to accompany the hero/heroines during those 70s-80s periods used to be dressed so crudely and some of the dances were plain vulgar. And IR too had to fulfill his commercial obligations to get to where he is today, so he probably had to go with the flow.
But i jus think tat u need to keep tat in mind before jumping to the conclusion it's the present day MDs and tfm industry tat's leading to the letdown in lyric quality. I think it's all part of an ongoing evolution."
As you can see, my post illustrates that my opinion is the very antithesis of what you claim it to be ("blame" on IR).

This thread is fun. :)
For once HCIRFs are on the defensive. :)
Mr. Hmmmm. IR has been given the full credit not only for the movies you have mentioned but many others. In fact, at one stage you can't see BR and IR apart.....
So, what;s your point?

warning: the following might be considered very vulgar!
An American tourist walks into a bar in Italy. He sees a local sitting there alone looking into his glass with a morose look on his face. "What's up dude, why such a long face?" he asks. The man slowly gets up, grabs the American by the hand and leads him out. "Can you see that church over there?" he asks. The american looks and his face lights up. It is the most beautiful church he has seen. "I built that church" the man says, "but do they call me Luigi the church-builder? No!" He then points in a different direction and asks "Can you see the ship over there?". The American looks and sees the biggest and most magnificent ship he's seen. "I built that ship, but do they call me Luigi the ship-builder? No!". The man then licks his lips nervously, leans over and whispers hoarsely "but you f*** one goat..."
I guess human nature is the same everywhere.. :)!
BTW this is just a joke I found somewhere. If anyone was offended I apologize.

they say a woman is her own enemy. Guess IR fans and IR's worst enemies.
Just joking tigger, don't take offence. :)

after 25 years of great music service, this is what the great man gets. guys, do you seriously think that Raaja is worth doing only this kind of music?

s0, I can understand your anguish.
Honestly, I think the target here is not so much as Ilayaraaja as his hardcore fans.
Many HCIRFs are blinded by their love for their idol and go around criticising one and sundry.
This thread actually brings a balance and gives a taste of their own medicine.
I don't know about Gowri and WhyNot, but I fervently hope that HCIRs will henceforth be less accusatory and practice sympathy for fans of other artistes.
With this statement, I hope to end my participation in this thread.

tigger, good one. :-)
but i think it is stretching it abit to apply it to this thread.
I wudnt think of IR's lewd songs when I think of him and neither wud most tfm fans, I'm sure.
ROTFL/Aadhavan, what's this about women?? This is the third sexist statement I'm hearing at this forum within a week.
