Remembering Rajashri...

Hi all,
Hope all of you know about RajaShri. He used to pen lyrics for all (or most) of the Telugu movies dubbed from Tamil. He used to come up with decent lyrics. The quality of dubbed songs at that time (when Rajashri was alive) was many times better than todays dubbed songs. The film industry didn't find a good replacement for him....

I was listening to his songs -- Gharshana (Agni Natchatram in Tamil), Mouna Ragam, Roja etc...

Did he used to write lyrics in Tamil??

  I dont know whether it is coincidence or something, Srikanth I came today to this TFM page and thought of starting this thread. I was surprised to see the topic.
  
  I was listening some songs today many of them were written by Rajashri. He is the best ever dubbing writer that Film industry has produced.
  
  He made things lot easier for producers. Since Tamil and Telugu industries are so transperent, If you have a good dubbing writer, your major problem is solved. Produce in one language and release it in other also.
  
  He has such a command in two languages that I think it is something really amazing. At one point any movied dubbed from Tamil to Telugu, default dubbing writer is Rajashri. His lyrics in meaning are so close to original that sometimes I really wonder his talent. He used to write the dialogues too.
  
  I think Film Industry ( both Tamil and telugu) badly misses him.

  Are the telugu dialogues lengthier than its tamil equivalent?? bcos, in some of the telugu-to-tamil dubbed movies, the characters will be "cud-chewing" even after the dialogue is over :-)))

  I don't know which Telugu movies you have seen. But, I have the same opinion about Tamil film dialogues (lengthy compared to Telugu). I used to see Tamil (mid70-mid80) movies on DD's "award winning regional movies" programme on Sunday afternoon. I have seen some "Sivaji"'s movies. I found that Tamil dialogues are lengthy....But, here are my observations which I thought would throw some light on this topic:
  
  Telugu movies, nowadays, have short (somewhat) dialogues. Gone are those days when heros/heorines can deliver lengthy dialogues (not that I like lengthy ones). I think NTR, ANR (among the heroes) have good dialogue delivery. None of the current heores (barring Chiranjeevi) is good at diction. Even his (chiranjeevi) accent is not suited for romantic roles and some others (basically, he was type cast to mass roles...hope I am not offending anyone).
  
  So, what I mean is that current day dialogues are short. I think Tamil Film industry also has this type of phase transition. You guys have to tell me!!
  
  IMHO, directors like MR, Shankar have changed the scene. Especially MR. I find dialogues in his movies very short. Also, you will see more long shots, dim lighting (I am refering to Agni Natchatram) and tricks like that so that they can be dubbed easily into other languages...I feel that if I show Gharshana (Telugu version of Agni Natchatram) to a non-filmy buff, he will definitely find it to be a telugu movie -- barring very few scenes. I feel this kind of trend was started by directors like MR.
  
  So, even Telugu directors started the same thing. Short dialogues, long shots etc. RGV(Ram Gopal Verma) also employs the same strategy...
  
  Regarding the length of dialogues in Telugu vs. Tamil, I think it's director, hero and subject specific. You can find J.V.Somayaajulu delivering heavy lengthy dialogues in Vishwanath's Sankaraabharanam...
  
  
  Ramakrishna: yeah!! rajashri was THE best. I wish soemone atleast close if not equal comes up in the dubbing arena. The film industry badly needs such a person. I think IR got benefited by Rajashri alot. Wow!! Gharshana's songs penned by Rajasri are great...no English/Hindi words like Oxygen, Armstrong, Air cooler etc. He was an amazing guy. Even the dialogues used to be good.

  Did u listen to the "tellugu translations" of the songs from Guna (starring Kamal Hassan). You may remember the song "Priyathamaa nEvachata". ALL the songs from this film have horrible lyrics which are in the nature of direct translations. I do not know who the translator is, but he has done a LOUSY job.

  I dont know about which movie you are talking about. What you have observed is not depending on whether Telugu or Tamil dialogues are lengthier. All matters is that who has dubbed it?
  
  Actually if a person takes " X" amount of time to tell a dailogue, the dubbing writer has to take care of the time X. If not the result will be what you observed. It is very difficult to maintain the time for all the dialogues particularly for close up shots. He has to adjust his dialogue presentation according the time keeping in mind what he has to convey.
  
  Only Rajashri has taken those minute details to dub a movie. You dont find much of these in his movies. Some times the lip movement coincides such that you feel the dubbed movie is the original. Thats greatness of Rajashri.
  
  I think dubbing is much difficult than actually writing the dialogues.
  
  Srikanth I think you misunderstood about Shankar's lengthy dialogues.

  i was seraching for the word telugu, and came upon this page. so hello guys. i feel the same way about rajashri. i didnt give him much credit while he was alive, but now the situationis much different now. by the way i think u shouldgive credit to the guy who dubbed devar magan-kshatriyaputrudu. terriffic dialogue and great lyrics, u would not think it was dubbed. some great illaiuyyaraja tunes too, what do u think?
