Unlike most of these songs on the other lists I have some truly sad, sad songs

Any smiths albums but some songs in particular are

Otis Redding-Pain in My Heart
Bob Marley-Johnny Was
The Clash-Lost in the Supermarket
The Strokes-Alone Together
The Strokes-Someday
Belle and Sebastian-Get me away from here I'm dyin
Bob Dylan-Girl from the north country
Tom Waits-Small Change(The whole album is good to drink to.)
Joy Division-Love will tear us apart
Joy Division-Closer(whole album)
Danzig-Sistinas
Fleetwood Mac-landslide
Johnny Thunders-I only wrote this song for you
Bob Dylan-Most of the time
The Replacements-Unsatisfied
Miles Davis-My funny valentine
My Bloody Valentine-Loveless(album)May have the opposite effect on some people

There are a hundreds of songs Im forgetting but this is a good list to get you started. I've found that these are genuinely sad songs and that Im not the only one that thinks that they are sad.

braveheart
time machine
last of the mohicans
lion king- instrumental songs

there are of course many more these are but a few that really hit the spot, for me

Taking it with the sticks - by sherry westhoeck.
.
the song has a rare resonance with our own experiences. especially the line which talks about the evening after the riverside date ("singing dry, still in the wet.."). the child's interlude ("knickers flapping in the wind..") is really pathos at its best.

The shining- Badly Drawn Boys.....its sad the instrumental is awesome( in a weird depressing way lol) so yeah listen to it!!
