Prabhu, do you remember that an entire episode of Nukkad was a direct lift from a TC story? The one where one member of TC's gang (the lil one) has boasted to his mom (who lives elsewhere) that he's the mayor of the city or something big like that, and his mom decides to visit her important son- and how TC, the entire gang, and even the PC play along, and make the mom's visit a huge success, and she goes back proud of her son-- Nukkad had very similar episode when the drunkard's mom comes calling.

Sara, yup :) Thats the only TC full episode I saw. I can only faintly recollect the Nukkad episode, I didnt see much except the final episode in 1986. Did see the re-run on Star Plus in 96-97.
Was the character Kopre?

Think Kopre was the character who hit the last ball 4.

Prabhu, I didn't get to see the re-runs :( But Nukkad was an all time favorite when I was in school.

Sara, yep we didnt have prime time comedy serials those days besides Nukkad. After its end in Jun 86, it was only with Morn Transmission from May 87 that we had some more. The next year had Intezaar, Wagle etc. Need a thread on this.
StarPlus/Zee/Home TV featured Hum Log, Nukkad, Intezaar, Buniyaad among its re-runs. But no Yathra :(

Wagle was a lot of fun. Used to really enjoy Adhos Padhos and that other entertaining Sai Paranjype sitcom (Fri nights), whose name I can't recollect now for the life of me. Nukkad provided wholesome entertainment. Khandan was big at one time. Vanraj Bhatia became a household name after that. (Check the box for "Is this post music related"!) Sunday morning line-up had an interesting remake of a P.G. Wodehouse classic (what's its name, the diamond necklace one), with the endearing Saeed Jaffry making the show a delight to watch (although the show was not a patch on the book itself!), a remake of Pride and Prejudice called Trishna, which was reasonably decent and annoying in equal parts. Then came a whole bunch of vethu shows like Babaji Ka Bayascope etc. Really liked the Mr. ya Mrs. show too. Whatever happened to Priya Tendulkar (of Rajni fame)? Last I heard, she was diagnosed with something quite scary.

I watched TV quite sporadically - hence the little pockets of "knowledge". I returned to the box to watch a whole bunch again, mostly half-heartedly, so all I remember out of that batch is Kuch Khoya Kuch Paya (alright, no food-related kadis here, ok?) I was never a fan of megaserials in any language, so as the trend shifted more to those in prime time, I lost interest in watching TV. Absence of TVs (Yeah, can you believe it? That too in the 90's?) contributed largely to my staying away from them in subsequent years.

Sara/xpreter, for years I'm trying to recall the name of this serial - used to feature a bunch of high school students, 2 of the characters were Anurag and Shehnaz - this used to come in the winter of 1990 on Sunday morn after 'Shuttle Time with Prakash Padukone'.

C~P/magix: u r lucky brats both! By the time u were born u had enuf tam progs on DD. we are talking about Jurassic Days when DD used to feature only Hindi stuff. Unable to make head or tail of the dialogues, we used to eagerly await the ads featuring Baygon/Nuwaakron which had a 'maaveeran' killing 'pachchai puloos' :)

There used to be a 6ft 7 very lean West Indian bowler Anthony Gray with crooked teeth and had a very awkward run-up(peiyottravan mathiri) with arms flailing all round.
After watching him in '86 I used to sweat in my sleep!

Prabhu, my horror man was Gladstone Small, who had no visible neck. My brother used to frighten me by imitating him!

Sara, I'd once left a school annual day function midway and next day my friend told me to my deep disappointment that Mayilsamy had turned up on stage 5 min after I left and Small's imitation had been a part of his mimicry :-(

Well, I actually watched those shows because I understood what they were saying. Tamil DD, when it finally came around, wasn't all that great to watch anyway!
magix,
Your "Ek gaon mein ek Kissan Raghu-thatha!" had me in splits, so much so that I actually had a solitary tear I had to wipe away from the corner of my eye!
C~P,
"hindi ke baare me baath math kariye ... ye thread-um admin moodiduvaar hai!" That's why I haven't said anything other than that one sentence I said way back! BTW, grey hairs? You have no idea how old I was when I watched those shows!
My horror men were all self-made (no cheap pot-shots here!) They haunted me in my nightmares for many years and gave me the shivers in my waking hours long after they stopped appearing in my nightmares. Product of an overactive imagination!

Kahaan gayen woh log? I mean- Swaroop Sampath, Tikku Tulsaniya, Satish Shah, Jayant Kriplani, Sabrina Merchant (Whats the good word), Pankaj Kapoor, Archana Puransingh, Karan Razdan and so many others who appeared on TV so often- where have they all disappeared these days?

Saravanan -
Sabrina Merchant is actually Sabira Merchant :-)
