bollywood vs kollywood!!!

I feel the Hindi audience, these days, is totally tasteless...seeing the kind of movies made in bollywood! They seem so unbelievably idiotic. And the music...even worse!!! Even lagaan and devdas, i feel were not as great as they claimed they were. Definitely not Oscar caliber :O When Lagaan was nominated for Oscar... we had pop-ups on MSN saying "Ask Spielerg to watch Lagaan"!!!! I mean idhellam konjam over-aa therialay??!! All the Hindi movies ever have is standard-aa one family bzness and a wedding and a holiday some place like NZ, Swiss et al. Tamil movies are far far better in content and music and everything. What do u say?

  i like what that one guy said about "tamil films think they're being funny when they're not." hindi films are funnier, you think? whenever i see that johnny lever idiot, i start crying.
  
  hindi films have bigger budgets -- but NO, they don't have more substance. hindi films aren't even about substance; they're about color and glamor and fourteen songs.
  
  hindi cinema -- when it's good -- is really good. i love movies like SATYA. but you can say the same about tamil. we've had some great releases in tamil. when hindi cinema is bad, though, it stinks up the joint like no other language's movies (i saw "awara pagala deewaanaa" and "raaz", both big money-makers in Hindi, and couldn't get over how unfunny and unscary they both were, respectively.) these Hindi guys copy and then mess up the original material 100%.

  Hindi composers (excluding some of older generation and SEL and Ismail Darbar) are good for nuthing , they cannot come with a tune besides the usual Dm, C, Bb progression, and they call themselves composers. Shame on them.
  
  Just listen to that song 'Ek Ladki' from Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi. Cant they come up with tunes more interesing, stimulating than that? (Dont bother how I remember that song, I was randomly playing some song, and this pooped up, my bad luck.)

  This interests and surprises me. I am a tam but somehow seems that i have missed the substance movies of kolly.. that you people are talking about. Reminds me of people in glass house...
  There is a rot in both industries, i dont know what is being compared here. Top ten ley varey pattu kekkerey maadriaa irruku? I hope that is not indicative of the taste you are talking about.
  
  Most rajni movies are big-money makers too. I dont want to speak of their quality but.
  And did someone say in TF they dont dance to express emotions. Have u heard "Azagu malar aadey" by Janaki filmed on Revathi. I guess now your statement might sound odd. Off course today there is a dance where it doesnt fit in.

  if there is anybody who is watching movies which are really stupid it is us Tamilians and Telugu people.....Kushbhukku kovil kattara alavu muttalgal.........lets not talk abt Hindi...it is not great.......if we want to talk abt standard, we should talk abt Malayalam and Bengali movies........we cant say Tamil movies are great when we get good movies once in blue moon.......Hindi movies are not different either.....

  I do agree with you st... but "Azhagu malar aada" is one in a million and it suits that situation beside in the movie Revathi is meant to be a dancer and doesn't seem odd. i was talking more generally...anyway that was just one example... thats all.. of course in tamil movies you do get crap as well.. like i said, two different type of movies to suit two different markets.. :)

  Put in simple words:
  
  Latest Hindi Movies = Multi-Color + Costume + Bad songs
  Tamil Movies = some attempt at story + good songs

  Brought up totally in the south I grew up watching tamil movies. I can definitely state that the tastes of people in the north and the south are TOTALLY different and beyond comparision. But still it is very sad when a Tamil goes abroad (i am an undergrad in the US) people always ask you about bollywood as if thats India. I am sick and tired of saying that Kollywood is right up there with our northern counterpart, if not better. I think Mani Ratnam's movies like Kannathil Muthamittal are among the best. It is appalling to see that hindi producers take good movies from the south and somehow manage to make a FLOP out of it..(egs are minnale, alaipayuthey, devar magan, muthalvan etc etc). I personally think that the language division and perception of Hindi as our "national lang" has a huge impact on this ridiculous discrimination that Kollywood suffers.

  There are good Hindi films and bad Hindi films as there are good Tamil films and bad Tamil films. Yes, HF industry copies but what about TF industry? Isn't Anbe Sivam "inspired" by an Hollywood movie? Isn't Vijay's Vasegara a remake of a Telugu film? HF industry has copied from TF industry but the vice versa is also true.
  
  But since this is the Tamil Film Music Page, I think the question of whether TFM or HFM is better can never be answered. Music is subjective and no matter what people say, music is not absolutely universal. Which is why though there may be hundreds of thousands of opera fans in the world, I am definitely not one of them :). There is a certain bias towards the language that you grew up speaking and the type of music you grew up listening. If you grew up listening to HFM, you might not appreciate TFM. Though you can grow to like other kinds of music.
  
  I personally appreciate TFM more though I do listen to HFM occasionally. I am more attuned to TFM as I have grown up listening to such songs and also I can understand Tamil whereas I don't understand Hindi.

  Most of the technicians such as cameramen, choriographers, lightmen, stuntmen in HFM are from south. Bollywood has the money and the rest is all from South. If you guys claim that hindi movies are technically good, the credit goes to southies. Similarly, AR Rahman, Mani ratnam, rajiv menon, Hema maalini, Sridevi, Meenakshi Shesadri and many more from south went to bollywood and dominated there for so many years. How many can you name (other than kushboo) from bollywood conquered in south??
  
  I liked old hindi movies from Amitab, Sanjeev Kumar and Dharmendra. Those movies had good stories and some great songs. Hindi movies in the last 15-20 years are UTTER CRAP, maybe, with one or two exceptions

  I don't watch Hindi movies but I haven't felt as though I am missing something. Seeing the trailots, I get the impression that they are all junk. Tamil movies are far better. We get some good films now and then from people like Maniratnam, Kamalhasan etc. Bollywod is mainly into masala and glamour.
  
  Southies have made it big in Bollywood as Cho said. And all of them deserved what they got. Northies too are much in demand (Udit!!!) here in Kollwood when all they do is spoil the language. That is something stupid!

  Raja, time to shake off complacency.
  Pithamagan,JulieGanapthy and Nadhikaraiyile are the only notable films in kollywood(2003) which is yet to come out of the teen age puppy love stories(courtesy Dhanush, boyz, e20u18) or police stories(kaaka kaaka, saamy, aanjaneya ) or hero turned thug movies(Tirumalai, jai, jhoot, dhool, Bhagavathi). Bollywood has moved urbane with Hinglish movies like Jhankaarbeats, Jogger's park, offbeat movies like baaghpan, chameli, maqbool,RamGopalvarma films.

  Bollywood movies suck as they dont have Rajas music.
  Are they not fed up with The same weddings, showing functions.
  Karan johar and Sooraj are the spoilers of Hindi film industry.
  They cant give a chance to IIR even after hearing Hey ram, Shame on their industry.
  Let them be happy with Anu malik.
