Folks:
For some reason the xoom site webmaster has singled
out the PPP Real Audio page and has written to
me to seek permission from the owners of the
tfm songs before uploading them via the xoom
account. I have been strictly told that the
account will be locked and inaccessible until
such permission is obtained. That means the end
of the PPP Real Audio page at xoom. I am trying to
find alternate sites for placing the songs.
If anyone has any suggestions please write here.
It is so sad because I have a good collection of
old songs with excellent recording which I am
keen to share with everyone; further, most of
them I have already encoded in real audio format.
We only need a site to hoist the songs!

I have obtained another xoom account through a
friend and started ppp ra again. But hereafter,
to keep a low key I will only keep one week's
songs so that too much memory space is not used.
(Too much memory use causes xoom to take notice.)
This week is a set of twin songs compiled by
(the one and only) Ramki..

I hope his comments will start a discussion here. :-))

Yes that'll be very useful because we can keep
two weeks of songs that way. I will send you
an email on that.

SK, ramki.. IR frequently uses change in pace (as srikanth noted in another thread) to convery a change in emotion.. in how many of the twin songs can this be found? a fast happy song and a slow sad song..

I don't know whether this fast-slow thing has been
used frequently. But it has been used. Examples
are anbuLLa maan vizhiyE/ anbuLLa mannavanE
in kuzhandhaiyum dheivamum and adi ennadi rAkkammA
from pattikkAdA pattaNamA.

SK, you can add 'Unnai ondru ketpen' to the list, though the second version is not exactly melancholic.
newtfmpage admins, a favour please, would it be possible for you all to display the links at the header (like it is in IR audio page thread)? This would save us the trouble of clicking on the 'Old responses' hyperlink to get to them. Thanks in advance.

i should salute your efforts in restoring your PPP audio page. Frankly speaking , there is absolutely no motivation for one to do so in the light of poor response for our endeavors(may be your case is different!). NO ONE CARES!(as far as i am concerned) I have spent so much of time for design and development of my page and customization and also encoded all the songs once again with better quality. In spite of all these efforts, noone even bothers to write couple of lines whether they like it or not!(they probably don't even visit). What is the motivation in fighting with these free hosts for your page when people don't even care to visit our pages? I would rather use my knowledge (acquired in the process now!) somewhere else where there is some appreciation for these bestowed efforts.
If my account is locked under the pretext of insufficient reasons (like violation of TOS) , i would just close down the shutters. Hell with this song uploads!

Let me see whether I can put things from my perspective. I started
learning about real audio because I found it useful for my lessons
in tracing of notes for songs.. it is easy to rewind and listen
again and again a particular line using real audio digital files.
But then I got this idea.. why not make some effort to share these
songs with others? I had (still don't have) no expectation of any
sort for the response. Initially I spent a lot of time. But once
that was done, the extra work is only marginal.. I spend, say 10 hrs
per week at most! Even if there is a single person listening to
my songs (one rameshb is good enough) that's sufficient for
me. I put a counter in my page to get an idea of statistics. In
about a month there were totally 612 downloads with about 25 people
coming in.. and 5 of them are regular customers. That is at least
3 times more than what I expected. I am very sure that a similar
statistics holds for your page too. Someone who never writes here
wrote to me that he was absolutely thrilled listening to 'gangai
karai thOttam'. GV wrote to me that he got a chance to listen to
'koondhalilE nei thadavi' after 20 years and he had been looking
for that song for 20 years. People like Ramki and karthi are very
hard-to-find enthusiasts who visit our pages.. see, I have also
managed to extract work out of them and formed two weeks of special
(wonderful) songs presented by them. Bhasker doesn't write much
but he has tremendous enthusiasm. The concern that he (and you and
ramki) showed when the ppp ra xoom account got "thalwAred" was
amazing. There are others like Sriram who give useful comments.
There are many who are busy and who come in and listen once in a
while and catch up on all the good songs they missed. I very much
enjoyed participating with you on the comedy vAram. All these
are much more than what I expected. No need for dejection. Let us
continue.. till we stop getting any enjoyment out of it.. as a service
my aim is to set up a single page where there is a full list of
old songs where anyone can come in, select and listen the songs
they want. We can do it as a joint exercise. But how to do that,
where to find space for that etc baffles me. I am very sure that
once such a page is set-up, there will be regular activity with a
steady stream of visitors. Your help can be very valuable for such a
project.

let me put my perpective, i also started this whole exercise as a case study for my learning of web design and development. When i started off, my knowledge on html was 0. Where do i stand today? I learnt not only the fundemendals of HTML, but also javascript , PERL , CGI-BIN concepts , cookies and more importantly the different things involved in IE and Netscape browsers in making your page work for both of them. In the beginning i had the same kind of plans to start my page with some customization . But one needs a host (a free one for poor people like us!;-)) who can given CGI-BIN access to run PERL scripts.
I hooked up with webjump but unfortunately their support was awful and their poor supervisor could not answer my queries. Instead, he responded saying i cann't use their server only for the purpose of CGI-BIN scripts. I gave a fitting reply to them (their 'cancel my account' option in their account maintenance page did not work! , i sent an email starting 'shame on you') and cancelled my account. However, I continued to upload songs with xoom and launched my page. Since then only some two or three guys (you, the first ) have been responding to my uploads regularly. I must admit that i could not upload any of the requests so far. ( in fact i have all my collections uploaded already).
When i got an email from shyam asking me if i can implement 'selective play', it kinda rekindled the spirits and swung back into search for a free provider with CGI-BIN, and i got virtualave. I spent so many hours to design , code and test the customization and it worked the way i wanted. Yes , there was some problem in the beginning with Netscape where it was not working. But i did not give up, continued my efforts to get the functionality working. Even now, the color effects are not the same (for custom scroll boxes) in both browsers. CSS (cascading style sheets) don't properly work with netscape. But, did i get a response from anybody regarding this feature , NO. Except you and shyam , no one said nothing (american way of saying!;-)))
Xoom's scrutiny of TFM song pages and its follow up action is really a show stopper for us. However my page is unaxed and active until this moment.
Excuse me guys for venting my feelings.

That, definitely was achieved.. perhaps you learnt
more than you had originally planned!!
So, your work was not wasted at all! Now, regarding
visitors, isn't it possible that there are many
who just listen to the songs, but do not write
any comments? As I wrote on the stats for ppp ra,
there are about 25 visitors till date. But..
only about 5 have really written comments here
(or by email). The same could be true with your
tamilmelody page too. If that's the case, then I
find your efforts to be very worthwhile.. only
that the appreciation is hidden.
