Exclusive info on Rahman's 'Meenaxi' music NEW!
[Source: Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM, Dec 2003]
All eyes are on M.F. Husain's magnum opus MEENAXI. The music of the film, composed by maestro A.R. Rahman, is said to be a potential chartbuster. Shot at exotic locales of Jaisalmer, Hyderabad and Prague, the songs of the film, featuring Tabu in the title role, are said to be a feast for the ears, as well as senses.
There is a qawwali, the opening track of the film, which has been shot in pouring rain. Apparently, another lyricist was assigned to write the qawwali centering on the oft-repeated 'Ishq'. Husain took one look at 'Ishq' and said, “No way! Not another 'Ishq' song” and proceeded to write a brand new song lying down on his hospital bed [the powerhouse painter was laid up with a gallstone problem]. The song was choreographed by Italian National Award winning choreographer Illiana Czhtaristi, under the able supervision of associate director Owais Husain [M.F. Husain's son].
Tabu, who plays the lead, has put her best foot forward in MEENAXI. Pun Intended. Apparently, when she was shooting the 'Rang Hai' song, Tabu had just come back from a schedule of her Bengali film ABAR ARANYE, where she had survived a major accident. With four stitches in her leg, Tabu still danced away to glory. “It is the music of the film. It just did something to me. It's almost divine,” says the award-winning actress. This song features a Lebanese singer Dalinda along with Hossam Ramzi.
The first shot of MEENAXI was Tabu's solo song, 'Yeh Rishta'. The song introduces a brand new singer Reena Bharadwaj. Rahman called her for an audition to his studio apartment in London and recorded the scratch version in his kitchen. Although this might sound a little amateurish… it's not!
Yet another song features choreographer Remo [dancing in front of the camera, not behind it] and newcomer Kunal. Rendered by Sukhwinder Singh, it is being touted as his next 'Chhaiya Chhaiya'. Apparently, before recording the song, Sukhwinder requested Rahman if he could change! Sukhi got into a sexy netted black vest before the recording to 'get into the mood.'
The film was earlier titled DO KADAM AUR SAHI, but later Husain felt that the title MEENAXI suited the film better. Rahman recorded a song, 'Do Kadam Aur Sahi', accordingly. Shot in Prague and Jaisalmer, this song is an amalgamation of the stories and the emotions that epitomizes the core of the film.
Asha Bhosle made an unforgettable touching gesture by cutting her holiday short to record 'Dhuan Dhuan' out of sheer respect for Husain. That too absolutely free of charge! “I cannot talk about money when it comes to Husain-saab,” she begged off every time. Incidentally, James Asher of the Buddha Bar features in 'Dhuan Dhuan' along with the much-talked-about Sivamani.
The background score of the film was equally larger than life. Rahman and Owais Husain went to Turkey to compose some of it.

its going to be usual MFH junk. the only ray of hope for this entire project is ARR's album. lets wait and see whether ARR delivers a Lagaan or makes it as an alround MFH product(junk).

Kupps, so far MFH has directed only one film, 'Gaja Gamini' and IMO GG was a beautiful movie, very different from the regular Bollywood thrash.Though the movie was confusing at times, overall it was a brilliant movie. People expecting to see Madhuri gyrating for 'dhak dhak' were totally disappointed, it was not a regular filmgoers cup of tea.
I hope/wish MFH retains his authenticity in his fortcoming films.

I dont know for IR either.. Atleast he could be considered Maestro, since he composed a Symphony.. May be i am wrong.. how can a person composing a symphony/or conducted a symphony be considered Maestro.
I was not sarcastic.. just curious. Paran nee aana kusumbu thanama poriyae.

"MIL the second project with BCSO (or whatever)"
pls, if you want to show ur interest or act like you know what a symphony is, show some apt.
neengala enpa symphony pathi pesiringe? how many musical scores have u heard in ur entire life? better still how many COMPOSERS do you know other than IR?

ambleen,
i am kind-a amazed, i remember one Seinfeld episode where this guys wants to be called a Maestro since he conducts the symphony though actually he is just a conductor.. For IR i do know that he composed a symphony (released or unreleased) it is in the records that he did it.
So in my opinion if nobody did give him the title like an organization or something, i consider him to be a Maestro. But ARR has not done yet, i will consider him Maestro then until that i am not using that title.
You dont need to know the many composers to distinguish the recognition for the title.
This topic is getting too deviated.. sorry for the disgression

Ramki,
exactly, that confusion was spilled all over the film GG (i would be one of the last to see madhuri or for that matter any heroine just for her gyration). That is why i said it a junk. Since you didnt feel the same way as i felt about GG, mine has become a pure personal opinion, so let me take back my statements (they really sound generic, there).
I was of the opinion MFH had directed one more movie earlier and i got clarified that, that movie(yet another junk) was not by him and by someone else. Thanks for the clarification.
Regd. ARR Maestro and IR Maestro:
---------------------------------
If im not wrong maestro is (italianised) master, a respectful word, thats it. MiL, one need not give a symphony for being called as maestro. if my memory is not wrong it was Mr.Townsend who called IR 'maestro' and it was Lloyd weber who called ARR 'maestro'.

MIL,
Precisely. No need to give 2 hoots abt the title, popularity, fame, fortune. I really don't care if IR is called maestro or not. Does not matter coz i know he has given a life time of music to be happy with. How many ppl have done that?
It's ok if others proclaim ARR has 'Mozart of India' or wateva 'coz they (believe me) won't even know which country he belonged to or anything abt his music...hehe. These are gypsies taking on one name & calling it their own before moving on to another. I mean you can't blame these gypsie because even ARR said that 'Taal set the standard' when he was asked in the Star World interview(Rendevouz) abt him being called 'Mozart of India'. Can u believe his answer! I did't know Taal had many Mozartian music references.....hehe
Such is the mental state of these ppl.

the man who never liked recognition allows his name to be added as IsaiNgani in all his films, allows his posters to be appeared in movies, allows his names to be used in movies....but i am confused if u say he doesn't know abt it...coz he selects his movies based on the story rite?...

Let me on everyone's behalf dethrone IR of this 'isaingani' title that someone gave him. Happy? But his quality still stays. Too bad 4 u.
Let's come to ARR now. He accepted he is the 'Mozart of Asia, india, etc' when the interviewer refered that to him. He said 'Taal set the standard'. Now mr/miss/mrs/etc paran, what I would like to know is for you to explain the connection of Mozart and Taal?
