aditya at 2:39 there is a single piano note anything special with that, looks like the note was played accidentally or before the acutal piano interlude itself starts?

UV,
Excellent ear. I have notes about the occurrance between 2:36 and 2:39, I just thought it was a teaser start. Let Aditya or someone clarify.

Udhaya:
Thanks for your write up on Earth and Fire.
Earth score in the middle somewhere indeed used same rhythm that i programmed for my Dejavu. Although it was for few measures or so, when I was using, I thought twice:-)) and it was a pleasant surprise for me that you asked about it. Earth score is all about joy, peace and harmony beyond a country, culture, life and then also beyond any particular time...At the end when i got into that Classical Tabla and Horn, I was also hoping to continue further but ended and not as an incomplete work...but more to your imagination to build after that:-))
Regarding fire, I will wait for your lyrics...Thanks for your initiation.
Regards,
Aditya

In the fire until before 2:35, score runs in 4 beat cycle...from 2:35 to 2:58, harp moves in 3 beat cycle ( sa sa ri ri ga ga ma ma pa pa ni ni sa sa - vakulabharanam notes )...while the piano retains it's phrases in it's original 4 beat cycle. This is something like thisram on harp while piano runs on chathurasra jaathi thriputa thalam ( Adi Thalam )...The idea was to bring a psycological separation anxiety fire...Then things roll back to 4 beat cycle from 2:58 onwards. Piano phrases during this time will look free form...I can't deny on your observations as an effect but there are no accidental notes as a performance...This was some abstract thinking on my composer side...
Yes UV, some of the phrases in fire omits nishadam and rishabham in keeravani scale. Hence it's what you called but I don't know the name of raagam that you mentioned...
Thanks for your observations.

Aditya

pKitcha,
no I don't have any. I hope this thread hasn't hit a pause because of my delayed answer.
Let's see some new works folks. Every composer has to have made at least one song this year at least for the silly resolutions sake.

Divakar:
Happy New Year. Nice start to the year! I do like this kind of performance...
no boundaries...let the performance evolve where ever the mind leads...strums through out, and piano rolls at the end are my favourites.
Please check that the tuning of the strings is not quiet right as they should be...short slip from abhogi to sahana was acceptable to the ears...
However I will remember this piece as a testament of your spontaneity and quality of natural talent...vainik inside me respects you as a nice musician.
I wish this year will bring the best out of you.

Aditya

Aditya,
Thanks for listening! Appreciate your comments...
I did change the strings after this performance, particularly the bass (6th string) worned out....
Also I perfomed on a different tuning than the usual....From top (treble) to bottom(bass)
E(treble), B, G#, D, B, E(bass)..may be I slipped somewhere...Anyway I started out as Raga VAlachi, its amazing you hear it as Abhogi...quite the opposite 6 months back...interesting!

Divakar,
You're welcome! assuming your frets are intact, perfectness of pitch on the open pluck of one of the strings wasn't right ( E or B or G# or D or B or E )...you said the strings are bad and so that answered.
I am sure you have good reasons for this different kind of tuning ( E B G# D B E ) - was it to meet some ergonomics of playing this piece or rather for effective usage of sonic frequencies.
In my ears, i registered the note that comes at 0:09, 0:13, 0:16 and 0:21 as the root note:-))
Whatever it may be, i enjoyed this piece...

Aditya

Aditya,
The tuning was a combination of ergonomics and the choice of the raga....lately I have come to use totally different tunings often characterized by the the mood of the raga or harmonies involved in it for every score I do....in other words I literally change tuning for every song I am gonna perform...sounds tedious, not at all but is also enjoyable...
I dont wanna keep ranting but heres how tuning aids in my piece:OPen String "E" as root Sa(E), Pa(B), G3(G#), N2(D), Pa(B), Sa(E)swaras of Valachi) ....
lets say you take String "B" as root it becomes MA(E), SA(B), D2(G#), G2(D), SA(B), Ma(E) (swaras of Abhogi) ..
So same tuning of strings aids in performance of two grahabedha pairs of Ragas....
Raga of this piece i will take that offline...
Thanks

Just to be clear by ergonomics I mean ease of fretting of notes, in that sense this is just one of many alternate tuning options for the same ragas.....

Srik,
I heard your bgm music in "As you wish" short film ( 10min length ). Your name wasn't shown in the title credits of the movie - but i guess your signature is identified through out.
Anyway it will be nice if you can make it available as a downloadable soundtrack and call it "Euthanasia".
very nice Flute solo with string arrangements - then during tense scenes that nice tamboora kind of sound blended with some delay effects. Transition between color and B&W scenes in the movie are filled with smooth bgms. I like that drum where u tuned/assigned a pitch to it that punches the emotion...climax with tremolo tension strings is also nice.

Aditya

Hello to all
I am a rare visitor to these pages. The last time I was here (almost 9 months back I think) there was some sort of dialogue on how to compose, etc.,
There were some excellent posts.
As an amateur composer, I myself have been dabbling with software instruments and so forth. I have been struggling (with pleasure) to learn orchestration. It seems to be a lifelong project!
Here is an example of an amateur attempt... an orchestral work vaguely based on Aberi.
comments and suggestions welcome...especially if you could point out specific mistakes and possible changes I could make.

Thanks for listening.

Anand,
Nice composition. Orchestral colors and textures are highlighted well. I liked the way you evolved the score...as a listener i was constantly waiting for what will happen in the score next...compliments for keeping up interest throughout the score inspite of it's tempo...your orchestral samples complemented to the mood of the score...
BTW, I remember sometime back hihi:-) arulacaran posted a classic horn piece claiming that it's his friend's composition...I think it's you!
Regards,
Aditya
