Dear friends,
we obviously have had detailed discussions on MD's, vocals, etc. But there is a small itch that "Have we forgotten the guys who spent a fortune on bringing to us these starlets to the oustside world, where some have hit the peaks and some have disappeared in twisters?

One of the worst companies presently and should be totally forgotten (but impossible) is HMV. All their IR songs are edited in their releases of the last 10 years. All the charm is lost

After reading a lot about Guru (Malayalam) in DF, I went last week to buy a cassette or CD in Palakkad. The shopwala told: `Sorry sir, that company itself is closed! I come across a lot of requirements, but what to do? Espcially people from TN keep coming asking for this album. No cassette or CD is available. May be you should look out for someone to record this and give!'
Now what do you say about that recording company?

Can anybody recall and give info about a recording company that existed in the name of echo. Like stories..once upon a time there was no cassette release without the echo brand name in it. But what's the status of this company now. Can someone help us in this issue.

I think Echo parted its ways with IR and that was `The End' for that company. And IR went ahead and started a co. like `Raja cassettes' or so which too is probably non-existent now.

Thanks a lot eden. I think HMV has got the rights from echo and are releasing those series of the songs in twin albums right now. Actually echo had featured in some of the best of the all time hits of IR.

I tihnk one of the fastest growth in the audio cassette industry is that of Ganshyam Hemdev. He started off with the second film of ARR (G'man) and after a slow pickup he started smashing all records in terms of audio sales in the state and outside. With every new ARR movie he stood up to break his own previoius record. Can anybody elaborate more on tihs topic please.
Ps: He was also the co-producer of love birds

Echo still exists. They release their old IR songs. No new releases though.
Echo's music on CD is available on Oriental Records. I think Oriental's Parthasarathy owns Echo too.

eden!
Did echo parted with IR? Echo was bought by Rangasaamy Paartha Saarathy, who owns the ORiental records. When IR opened his own company, all the rights transferred to that, so Echo focus only on classical music. There are plenty of classical albums available by Oriental records. Later IR work with AVM, now he works in Pirasath studio. IMO, Oriental Records is one of the good company which provides good albums. I meant about selections. Most of them are good. Thanks to IR for shuting down the Oriental records. Now all the companies that release IR's album is completely bad. Like MVU, Dharma sakkaram, Poonthotam. The recording is poorly handled. (strictly IMO)

You were very much right M. Since the stopping of echo we can see the gradual decline in the movement of IR's hits. This is well known to everybody. Could this be due to IR's diversion of concentration towards the audio company admin. that could've caused the downslide in sales of IR's movies or any better suggestions. I also have a second feeling that the over publicity given for his symphony and the follow up and repeated enquiries on it has also had its impact on him. This is where people also sought to migrate towards another MD which happened to ARR with his firecracker debut - Roja. Any other opinions?

How is the quality of the CDs released by Oriental Records here in the US? I went to their website, found some great collections - just wanted to know how good they are.

Raja!
I bought these albums in 91/92 period. They were superior at that time. OR used to work with Disctronics and the recording was excellent. You must listen to those to appreciate it. Now OR with Techni color which isn't that great compared to Disctronics. However, the recordings are far better than any other companies. Especially, the selections. IMO, 'Enchanting Jesudas' is the best one, so you could try with it.

raga,
I dont know, how people like echo records. They are always poor in quality, never provided any details inside the casette, just the IR picture. I rarely come across a echo casette with singer, lyricst details inside.
Infact when IR was with echo, no one knew the actual sales of IR albums, and only after he seperated, in early 90s, people realized the true potential of his marketablity.
There was an article in today that time about this and also about how pyramid made it big. If you happen to buy any spb, or yesudos hits in echo label, you can not even find out, which movie the song was ( forget about singers, lyricst etc). IMO, the new album companies like pyramid, star, basky are much better in that sense, at least they provide all the details.

Are you sure hari?
I've albums which list the name of the movie, and they rarely make mistakes. Pyramid is really bad because many of the albums contain wrong information and Not many albums contain the lyricist information.

I think, when echo (and also T-Series) was having a good time, their cassettes had all details inside(and also correct spellings!!). No other company cassette had enough details inside them.

I read in another thread that Pyramid has released a song from Mannan and crediting it to Deva! Fellows should be sued! I would rather prefer them not printing anything at all and let the listener guess and find out who is the MD, singer et al. Let them just print the name of the movie!

hari,
to be precised pyramid started making these stuff only from Gentleman. But during the days of echo there wasn't any cassette companies worthy enough to compete. In fact there used to be very low priced cassettes from T-series which were pirated and sold as two movies or two hit movies for Rs.15. I accept the fact that their presentation wasn't as good as the ones now. But IMO that what happens when something is working as a monopoly. Till pryramid started flying high, the only threatening competition to echo was played by Magnasound & Lahari recording co. in the near end days of echo.I do not know why magnasound stopped after giving some stiff competition to pyramid. To be honest, after pyramids arrival in the industry the presentation of the cassettes and the quality (not the technical making) of presenting cassettes grew by leaps and bounds. The one still fixed in my mind are Thiruda thiruda(MS) and Duet (PD). The appearance of the cassettes itself lured a lot of buyer. I was one of the persons too to be frank. But after that dramatic change in the presentations, there has been no significant difference till jeans where they gave some promotional materials(chocolates and discount coupons) with the cassette. But qualitywise I doubt the improvement. IMO magnasound cassettes have performed for a longer duration than any other company's. Can someone help me in giving a more precise description(I hate to say... but thats one thing I lack).

T-Series cassettes were doing good in HFM with better quality cassettes(even that wasn't as good as TFM's cassettes those days).
