This 'so-called' film critic from REDIFF.COM says 'ABHAY' (Hindi Version of ALAVANDHAAN' is a crap movie. The link is given below...

How crucial was 'music' a crucial factor for a film like ALAVANDHAAN?

brijesh,
you're right man...
Moreover, "mottai" kamal wants to save his brother from raveena. That's why he tries to kill her. But I don't know why he keeps on trying to kill his brother too ?
After escaping from the asylum, he tries to hide from others to kill Raveena. But in the climax, he doesn't care for that. Why so ?
No logic at all. Pathetic movie. Very much disappointed.

Brijesh:
The Animated sequence were specifically created to tone down the depiction of violent scenes. Kamal/Suresh Krishna have flicked the concept of using animation to this effect from the Oliver Stone movie 'Natural Born Killers'!

>> it would make logical sense to see the rest of the world as cartoons when blown high on ecstacy.<<
i think u had a dose of ecstasy while watching the movie...No wonder u wud like krishna in blue pants, red shirt and yellow shoes in his 60s running after jyothika or someone...

any idea if Natural Born Killers is available for rent or sale?
It was banned sometime after it was released and no news of it ever since!

The cartoon idea was a means to get away from censor's and I thought it was a pretty good idea though it is slightly prolonged. It is much better than explicit violence. Also the flash back was pretty well done , except in some cases where Nandu comes across as Arivu Jeevi rather than as a kid. Agreed that Kamal has taken a lot of liberties but who does not? It is a fact that he lost control of the last 30 minutes.

my opinions abt aalavandhan...
see the 2nd half of the movie... it has no dialogue after "anbulla diary.." sequence and its has kamal chasing the other kamal like an ape without any logic...and for no reason decides he has failed and commits suicide.
if kamal thinks he is bringing out the randomness of a mental case ...sorry we dont think so... we think its the randomness of the director and kamal..in running out of ideas and coming up with a 2nd half that is NOT a continuation of the first half but some stupid sequence of events that makes no sense....
BIG MISTAKES:
1) cartoon sequence: kamal! what were u thinking.. its extremely difficult to fuse cartoon-movie . The concept involves the viewer being made to think he is seeing a harmless bit of imaginary cartoon and when reality is shown...the viewer must be genuinly surprised that manisha is dead and must be aghast once he thinks back the cartoon sequnce and transalates it to reality...
there was no deception in this case and we fully knew 2 hrs b4 that manisha wud die... and we ended up thinking the cartoon sequence was put in to avoid A certificate...
2) Jumping on the baloon that too twice.. what were u thinking...
3) whats with the ape liking beating on the chest and chasing on car scooter lorry (driving the car with legs)
4) dual language... any movie with a solid story and screen play will run in any language irrespective of the cast. In order to make it hindi compatible (or vice versa) u have reduced close-up shots and dialogues... not to mention story and narrative content..."naan bommai pakka varalai.. kathaiya sollunga sir"
this is one time where a megalomaniac overshadowed kamalahaasan!

:-) Reminds me of what my elder sister kept saying when we were watching all the ridiculous scenes that u mentioned, and other stuff like bungee-jumping, etc.
"I wonder how long he has been fantasising of doing all these things.."
At some stage, esp the fighting scenes and car chase scenes, it was like watching a movie called, "Lets watch Kamal having fun".

i thnk kamal haasan has to mature a little more & not try to effect machismo to cover up some soft mannerisms. kamal - perfect timing for comedy lines, but rough roles needs more brushing. his ego is also quite frickin big needng lot of downsizing there. if kamal can tone down latent sexual potency now made hihgly visible focsing on screenplay (¬ on self) and credible storyline, characters development then all the other stupid ego/lust factors will vanish bringing out excellent stuff that kamal is very capable of. focus on the main theme, not on the fringe benefits ;--) For an Oscar bid, Kamal Haasan has to have the originality of Sivaji, the tough exterior of Bharat Gopi, consistency of Michael Douglas, and his own perfect timing.

Did you guys realise that Kamal has directly copied from "Saving Private Ryan" in the first "Commando-Action" Scene, when he uses a broken piece of a mirror to spot the terrorists inside the house??
There are lots of flaws in the movie. I have never seen or known parents, even in the US, rejoicing about the fact that their daughter has become pregnant before marriage. And they all laugh when Kamal makes a joke of it in a song and goes totally public about it!!! How freakin ridiculous!!!!
Also, the commando seems to go on a very very long leave after marriage, even when his poor pregnant wife goes to work. What does he do at home?? Clean toilets??
I totally hate Kamal, good actor but the worst pervert. Pedophile in a way, Vasundhara Das was just 21 when "Hey Ram" was shot, and man, those scenes are so embarrasingly intimate to watch!! He is an exhibitionist of sorts. His scenes with Raveena Tandon are hopelessly ridiculous and vulgar, and the expressions on his face during romantic scenes.... LAY OFF YOU OLD F****N MORON!!I hope he squeezes all his wealth to make a movie and comes out as a total Bondi.
I wonder if I want to make a " Totally Realistic" movie about sexual intimacies in modern day South Indian society, with his DAIGHTER in the lead, which might involve some bedroom scenes, will he let me?? Well cmon!! Its just an art, Kamalji!!!
And, yeah I am also happy that the movie bombed becoz, my Deivam IR is not the MD. I wanted the movie to flop, so did it. Good.

neutral fan, vimal is quite an old timer here with a heavy IR bias. Whatever it is, there's no big need to react to his emotional post above anyway...

Well,
I won't call it an emotional post. I have always been thinking of Kamal as a pervert, right from his Nayakan days. A very good actor, but nobody has tried to explore sexuality in present day Indian cinema like Kamal. Call me wrong, but a spade is a spade. If you think, most of his movies can do very well without his intimate scenes. What has "butt-biting" or "french-kissing" got to do with a serious portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi...?? Even though HeyRam had IR as the MD,I didn't like it a wee bit for the same reason.
And the thing about the anti-Kamal bias in Bollywood, well, "Chachi 420" was not a flop. The point is, their taste is different. Honestly, I am definitely against "Indhi Thinippu", but I really loved "Dil Chahta Hai", a hep and trendy movie set in modern day Mumbai, with least vulgarity. Kamal has to concentrate on other things, rather than getting his perverted thoughts getting fulfilled. Seriously. If not, he can never ever win an Oscar. If Satyajit Ray can, why can't Kamal??

Vimal, What's wrong in showing sex on screen. It is a part of life. This is clearly an adult movie. There are a lot more perverts in tamil movies who do much worse things behind the back. Donot let your anti kamal feelings hide your real views.

>>What's wrong in showing sex on screen. It is a part of life.<<
unmailvilambi, i don't mean to be crude here but excreting is also part of life. but unless it's crucial to the storyline, what's the point in showing it?
of course kamal did not leave tat aspect of real life alone either and went on to show manisha sitting on the toilet. :-)
U see unmaivilambi, if the truth is tat kamal is really interested in portraying reality, u won't have so many bizarre scenes in the movie, like falling on the balloon twice, driving a car with his legs, etc etc. But the truth is, tat's not his real intention (portraying reality).
It doesn't take a detective to realise this.

vimal,
Your outbursts are entirely justified. IMO also, he is just a good actor and there it ends. I don't understand why people are rating him so high? What has he done to Tamil Film that people like Mahendran, BR, KB or even MR didn't do? IMHO, 'Valli' by Rajini was a lot better than his Hey Ram. Tamil Film can do without this man's pervert ideas.

Warning: Digression.
Unmaivilambi,
Sex is a part of life, but not a part of our culture. Talking about periods and stuff on the screen with Ravina, and counting the number of times they made love, and recollecting the best.. will you watch with your family and friends?? I bet you won't if you are decent enough.
I do agree that there are more perverts lying around, like SA Chandrasekhar asking his own son to play kabadi with some actress... in a way the film industry is made of utterly shameless idiots, and the people involved are all glorified prostitutes, a sad reality. Strictly my opinion, NOM.
