Hi all:

Many times we miss to notice certain songs which are too good, just because either the film goes for a flop or some other popular song in the film overshadows this one. Hearing such a song carefully will tell how superbly it is crafted. I will start with a couple of such songs :

1) Kanna Varuvaya (Manadhil Urudhi Vendum). The beginning humming itself is mesmerising. And the interludes are simply superb.
2) Chinna thayaval thandha rasave (Dhalapathi). Soga Rasam pizhiyum paadal. The tune of this song comes often in the BGM. The beginning, the interludes are too great! Its been a very long time I heard this song.
3) Keeravani Iravile Kanavile Paada Vaa Nee (Paadum Paravaigal). A beautiful one by SPB.

  "Ezhudugiren oru kadidham" in Kalki is one such song.. the lyrics, tune, picturisation, and the very concept of letters to an unborn daughter are simply superb!

  I can list many more songs, but then it would be called "paadapathi" songs. Anyway, here is my list:
  1. Athai magalum Illai Amman Magalum Illai....(Jaathi Pookal) (KJ)
  Great song by KJY.
  2. Kaathoda Pogum karai Thedum Odam... (Mano). Again one of the few songs sung by Mano.
  3. Poovai Pol Vazhavo Punnagai Vazhangavo... (SPB)
  No one can replace SPB in this song.
  4. Poo parikkum Nerathiley Puyal adichu... (SPB)(Karaiyai Thodaatha Alaikal). Good song by spb and the Lyrics are by M.Metha.
  5. Oda thanni Uppu thanni.... (KJY,Chitra) (Sivapu Thaali)
  6. Un Manasila Paatu than Irukkuthu... (SPB, chitra). Great song from Paandi Naatu thangam .
  7. Indha Iravil Naan Paadum Paadal... (JC) (Yaaro Azhaikiraarkal) (MD: SG). Good song by JC, but the movie is really bad.
  8. Thoonda Mani Vilakku Thoonda... (Chitra) (Vazhka Valarka). Chitra renders this song beautifully.

  9. maaney Pon maaney vilaiyaada vaa... (SJ) (Makkal En Pakkam) (MD: CB). SJ did really a good job.
  10 Udhayamey Uyirey Nilavey....(SPB,UR)(MD: SAR). It's unbelievable that MD is SAR.
  11. Kodi Maram Saaivathundu Mani... (KJY,PS) (Nenjil Oru Tajmahal) (MD: Sivaji raja). The md is less heard in TFM, so does the song.
  12. Vaanam Engey Mudikirathu.... (KJY) (Paai Mara Kappal) (MD: KVM) What a song by KJY, but the movie bombed at the box office, because Janakaraj is the hero. This song is for Janakaraj....
  13. Kanney en kanmaniye En... (Mano, chitra) (Kavithai Paadum Alaigal) The songs are great, but the movie is really bad. This is again few good songs by Mano.
  14. Athikaalai Naan Paadum.... (SPB, chitra) (Puthu Paadakan) (MD: Thanu) A good melody by SPB and Chitra. This movie also bombed in the box office despite the casts which include Vijaya Kantha And Amals.
  15. Kaalai thendralil Ethanai Sandhangal... (Dinesh) (Mangai Oru Gangai) A Good song by dinesh. BTW, who is he?

  How about
  Neeyum Bommai Naanum Bommai Ninachu Partha Ellam Bommai - by KJY. I think this was his first song.
  
  There are couple of good songs in a film called "Thambi Pondatti", by IR.
  1) En Kannil ..... dama dama dim dim.... (I don't remember the lyrics)
  2) Pon mane thene ....
  3) one more devotional type of song.

  Okey more songs!
  16. Sondhangaley Sutangaley Sogam.... (MV) (Aduthathu Albert) (MD: IR). MV sang in P.U.Chinnapa Voice. Great song.
  17. Thodu Vaanam Nijamalla Athai.... (SJ,?) (Kavithai Paada Neramillai). I believe this movie is by film institude students. I liked the way the song is picturized. You should watch the movie to appreciate the songs.
  18. Vennilavai Muthal Naal Iravil.... (SPB) (Uzhaithu Vaazha Vendum) (MD: Devendran) Good song by SPB. Was this movie a hit?
  19. Mannil Vandha Nilavey En Madiyil.... (PS) (Nilavey Malarey) (MD: MSV) PS voice is mesmerizing.
  20. Sangamam Piriya Sangamam..... (KJY,Chitra) (Sangamam). This is good, but less heard. I don't know why though sugasini is one of the cast.
  21. Raajathi Ennai Thedi Varuvaarey.... (Chitra) (Raasathi Kalyaanam) (MD: MSV) Such a great song by Chitra, but the casts are not great at all, so does the movie.
  22. Raakuyiley Kannula Ennadi... (SPB,Chitra) (Puthiya Vaanam) (MD: Hamsalekaa) Good Melody. I think this movie is also a flop one despite the fact that Sathiyaraj, Sivaji in the casts.
  23. Kaathal Kavithai Paada Kanavey... (SPB, Chitra) (Kanam Kortaar Avarkaley) (MD: Devendran). This is the only good song in this movie. This movie is also a flop one.
  24. Vaanam Arukil Oru Vaanam.... (KJY) (Niyaaya Tharaasu) (MD: SG). Good song.
  25. Poongatril Aadum Kodi Mullaiye... (MV) (Chinna Poove Mella Pesu) (MD: SAR). This is the SAR's first movie. Listen to MV's voice, great!

  Hey people
  Have you listened to Sangeetha rajan, he scored for thyaagaraajan's movies, some of the songs are "mayanginaen mannan indru konjam va va, thayakkamaen thaazhampoovae nenjam nee thaa" from Selam Vishnu(right?)
  And also a song from movie En Kanavar(ramki nirosha), it is "en dhaan ennodu indha oodal naadagam, needhaan nenjodu neengaadha gnyaabagam"
  i wonder why he is not popular, what do you guys say for these songs.

  Kalaithendralil eththanai sandhangal - Does it read
  "GaGaSaSaSaSa NiSaRiPaPaPa ...neeradi vaa thendrale" ? If it is so I must thank you for giving me the film name. I was desperate. Please contribute further. We DFers are bound to benefit.
  
  Regarding your list:
  
  (1) Poo parikkum nerathiley is a good song. Chandhirarey Suriyarey of Amaran sounds like this song.
  
  (2)Un manasile paatu thaan irukkuthu - Is it by SPB or Mano. I doubt it is by Mano.
  
  I must admit I have not heard (about ?!!) the rest.
  
  Some from my side:
  
  (1) Nee ondru thaana en - Unnal mudiyum thambi
  
  (2) The swaras KJY sings for both Gemini and Kamal with Nadhaswaram accompaniment. It comes in the film when Kamal and gemini crss faces
  
  (3) kaadhal nila theyndhadhamma - SPB + Mohan + V.S.Narasimhan
  
  (4) Pon maane theduthe - from oh maaney maaney

  Yes 'Kaalai Thendralil....' start with 'Neeradi vaa thendraley...'.
  
  The version I have from Paandi naatu thangam is by spb. Mano sang 'Siru Kootula Ulla Kuyilukku nooru aasai'.

  26. Megam Rendu Serum bodhu Minnal.... (SPB) (Poi Mugangal) (MD: CB) Another less heard beautiful song.
  27. Ingu Naam kaanum Paasam.... (KJY) from the same movie.
  28. Vizhi Theepam Unai Thedum Puthu... (SPB, PS) (Kadai kan Paarvai) Who is the MD? Is it IR? But the song is good.

  1. subha raagame - kanni raasi - MV sang in CS jeyaraaman's voice - movie was a directorial debut for paandiyaraajan and was a decent hit.
  
  2. chithirame un vizhigal - KJY -forgot the film name.
  
  3. ennangal aanandhame inbangal aayirame - kadal meengal - MV - a fantastic song overlooked due to the popularity of the other song from the same film.
  
  4. mazhaiye mazhaiye - amma - SG - nice duet by SPB,SJ.
  
  5. muthu muthu therottam - a classic i would say by VJ from the film aaniver in the lines of 'megame megame'. once again by SG, though i dont know whether this song was a lift from a ghazal!

  "aathmaa" - ninaikindra paadhaiyil nadakindra thendralae.

  Great thread. Many songs are revelations to me. Mano, MS, I too love that song by Dinesh excellently penned by Piraisoodan. Is he a Hindi import? I ask because Laxmikant Pyarelal scored for Mangai Oru Gangai.

  - Paneer poovin paarvaiyil....(Chitra) ( Rendum Rendum Anju)
  Who is the MD? This song is like Ethetho ennam valarthen. Again beautifully sung by chitra
  - Valar Pirai Enavey En..... (Mano) (Rendum Rendum Anju) Again, one of the few good songs sung by Mano.
  - Aavathum Pennaley Mansushan Azhivathum.... (SPB) (Thirumathi Oru Vegumathi) (MD: SG)
  - Noolil Aadum Pommai Rendu Oomai Yaachu... (KJY) (Iniya Raja) (MD: VSN). Such a great song tuned by VSN. But the movie went un noticed, so does the song.
  - En Raasa Yaaro Eppa Varuvaaro... (Chitra) (Paarthal Pasu). As usual, IR gave great songs for pasu nesan, but this movie is a flop. So the songs weren't popular at all.
  - Ezhai Kudisaiyil Koozhai kudikira... (Chitra) (Valaiyal Satham) (MD: MSV)
