I am still waiting for "Moods of Ilayaraja" :-)
This one is supposed to come out in October. Let us see if it actually gets released, or becomes vaporware like other announcements.

Anyone heard of this organization called "Tamil Maiyyam" which is coordinating this project?
Appreciate it if someone could provide info. on their history, publications, activities etc.
The site says:
"Thiruvasakam in Symphony project is coordinated by Tamil Maiyam a registered non-profit tax-exempt organization. It is committed to bring out high quality productions in Tamil art, culture and literature. It promotes research efforts on Tamil society and endeavors to educate and train quality media personnel."

This is a good idea instead of having Sony others release the album. IR has over half a million fans from south India alone abroad - conservative estimate - with purchasing capacity. That means, 11 million dollars guaranteed. This is the core that IR' marketing should focus on - rest is all bonus and can ripple on and on! Good strategy

why is it in German and not Italian or Spanish? also, has the work already completed? so, does it mean no films till October 2003? means, IR is now goin to devote time to present his symphony world over and neglect to give us oorkai and appalam? burning questions, i say. i want my 1000 movies also.

Guys,
I think IR already devoted time for this. This has been in talking for quite sometime. It all started when IR met Kanchi Jeyandra Saraswati Swamigal to talk about the centre. Swamigal gave him the confidence that his objective will be achieved.
IR was serious on this from that time(Well over a year). So probably he is doing the composing whenever he got time in between and now it is probably in materializing stage.
Even though this will be good, I only hope this will really bring success.(Thiruvasagam is like a art movie, difficult to take as well as sell)

Hi all,
I feel commercial success is not the only true measure of success. The essence of Indian philosophy echoes that. Let's not forget IR's heroes include Bach(an obscure church organist in his lifetime whose genius was discovered a century later)and Tyagaraja(who didn't earn a penny for his music). I think by narrowing our sphere to tfm or film related art forms we are limiting the reach of ancient and universal tamil art works such as Thiruvasagam. I think its great that something of this nature is being documented atleast for posterity.

As far as iam concerned IR should completely stop tamil film music and devote all his time into Classical music.I think it is better for IR ,not to compose rather than compose a movie in which Saritha is the heroine....

IRfan,
I agree with your hypothetical values. But you know world is not perfect. Without commercial success, how IR can keep the institution going?
Commercial success is necessary evil of today's society. Those days of Thyagaraja, kings were supporting such arts like music. Now do the government support such things sincerely? I don't think so.(Atleast that is not the case in India)
It is a very good ambition to do all this. That's why I was worried about the success.

Dear Friends,
I just happened to stumble upon this site.
I am deeply encouraged and genuinely satisfied about the kind of discussion taking place here about the Thiruvasakam in symphony project. We are planning to rename the project as: Thiruvasakam- A Symphonic Fantasy.
Tamil Maiyam that is speerheading this project is a not for profit organization and has awarded the 80G tax exempt award by the Department of Incometax. I am the Christian representative in the group and , quite meaningfully I have been requested by the group to coordinate the project. And for your little surprise I am a Catholic priest. Well my father was an ardent Hindu, a lover of Thiruvasakam.
It was chance encounter with Isaignani that gave new life to this project. Isaignani has been talking about this project to so many producers and friends in the last four years. But no one gave him a hand as they were unsure of the commercial profitability of the project. When we heard and felt his anguish, we immediately said that we will go even to hell to materialize this project.
For Isaignani this project is profoundly personal. There comes a time in every artist's life when he agonizes over his legacy. Isaignani does not simply want to be remembered as a cine composer. He wants to leave behind something that will live for eternity in the history of music. This is going to be that creation.
For me also this project is personal. As a teenager I grew up eating and drinking and breathing the music of Isaignani. I always had a feeling he is capable of higher music and he needs to be introduced to the world arena. This project if properly executed will definitely earn him international attention and appreciation.
The Budapest Symphony orchestra with 130 artists and another 30 artists from India are going to perform for this symphony. So you can imagine that the budget will be huge. If we are going to record ony the Tamil version of it, it is going to cost us 2.25 crores. All the languages put together-Hindi, English and German would cost us 5 crores.
I fully understand the apprehensions in the minds of some of the fans given the fact that similar announcements before did not materialise. Let me state this a Catholic priest, we will keep the word. We have fixed the date of release to be October 18.

your's truly,

Great to see all about Thiruvasakam In Symphony. I'm greatly excited! Also I'm a little skeptical that no other news other than few DFers talking about it.
Is IR aware of all that is going on in this forum, or on the thiruvasakaminsmphony website.
A project which is worth few crores needs more proof. More testimony.
I'm a fan of IR. There are millions of us. The media is big. All that we hear about this project is only from one person, Rev.Fr.Jegath.
It is too early or there is too little an information for a volunteer to donate. I pray God that this all be true.
I will remain skeptical until I see more.
Anything I mentioned here is with no offence to anyone. Just a thought from a zealot of Ilayaraja.
