i think this topic is/was discussed in the pudu paadagal review thread.the other songs are not that great. 'oru pattampoochi' by KJY is supposed to be a catchy tune.hello baby by vijay and ayya voodu by IR are so so.
u can see MPR's site, address given in pudu paadalgal review thread(old one) for audio clips
of songs from KM.gopal, have u updated the links i mailed u sometime back?

MSK:
I have listened to KM songs quite a few times now and have already recorded and given the songs to 5 of my friends. I really like the songs a lot. It has been a while since I liked IR's songs to this extent. For that matter, this is an album that I completely enjoyed since "Iruvar", "Minsaarakkanavu" and "Devathai". Excellent orchestration( he had used Bass Guitar quite a bit and a whole range of new beats and rhythms ).
KM CDs are available in Oklahoma
( H & M Enterprises - Phone: 405-728-0634 - Fax: 405-728-3338 ) and in different combinations, one with Ratchagan, one with "Naam Iruvar Namakku Iruvar"(NINI), and some others with other Movie songs. I am getting the one with NINI since I already have "Ratchagan" CD and the others I am not too keen on getting.
Song#1: "Ananda Kuyilin Paattu" by AM, Surendar, Malaysia Vasudevan, Chitra and Deepika is a nice, melodious family song.
Song#2: "Ennai Thaalaatta Varuvaalo" by Hariharan( humming by Bhavathaarani ) is an excellent song which is topping all the Charts in India
Song#3: "Oru Pattaampoochi Nenjukkulley" by KJJ & Sujatha is a nice beatsy song which, for some people, may take a few listening to get to like. But, I liked it the first time I listened to it.
There is one interlude where IR has given a Guitar Roll( like the Drums Roll or Piano Roll ) which I think is great( don't know if anybody had done that before )
Song#4: "Ithu Sangeetha Thirunaalo" by Bhavathaarani is a variation of "Ennai Thaalaatta Varuvaalo" and IR had used a different set of instruments for this.
Song#5: "Aariraaro Aariraaro" by Chitra is a bit song, a variation of "Ananda Kuyilin Paattu"
Song#6: "Oh Baby Baby" by Vijay & Bhavatharani is another beatsy song which probably targets the younger generation( I am not sure how popular this song will become ) but I like it very much.
Song#7: "Ennai Thaalaatta Varuvaalo" by IR is the same song as the one sung by Hariharan.
Song#8: "Aiya Voodu Thiranduthaan Kedakku" by IR & AM is a nice thatthuva paadal but with lots of beats.
Overall, IMO, this is a great album and I am waiting to get the CD.

idhu sanghIdhath thirunALO more than ennaith thAlAtta varuvALO.
bhavadhAriNi has done a good job. but somehow the music doesn't
sound appropriate to the lyrics. The song has dashing
interludes and only one word to describe the song.

Even thouhg ennai thaalatta varuvaaya is the leading one in KM, I like to quote the song "Oru pattaam poochchi". It is such a fast song with a great tempo. There is a violin piece just after pallavi that can match the all time best violin pieces.

even i heard the song in a better machine yesterday in MPR's site.the song seems to have been set in the raga naatai.fantastic fast paced song.it has got overshadowed a bit.this happens to IR's songs once in a while.i felt that 'pattu poo pattana poo poo' from veera was certainly one of the beter songs in the film though it did'nt appear in the film.it was set in 'naatai' and had a beautiful music interlude, which merges with the situation in which the heroine is supposed to be doing an exercise i guess.
also guys pl. listen to 'yaatramozhi' songs in MPR's site.they are too good, especially the latest one 'ponveyilil'.i would have heard the song atleast 6 times continuously yesterday.beautiful melody and the interlude is just symphony stuff.i would place this song a step higher than the kadhalukku M song.can someone throw some light on this film, year, actors etc ?

'Yatramozhi', the entire album is very good. IR's music for malayalam movies is somewhat better than tamil movies. Here are the details:
actors: Mohanlal and Sivaji ganesan
direction: Prathap pothan
year: cassette was released in 1996, don't know about the movie
total no. of songs: 5 songs (2 songs have two versions, so 7 songs totally)
kind: all of them are melodious.

Hi folks, I just purchased the CD of KM last night, and I have only one word for it. "PURE MAGIC". It is the best Tamil music that I have listened in a long time. Ennai Thalatta Varuvalo song is mesmerizing. I liked the version sung up IR very much, as he has used more variations than Hariharan (although the latters voice is far superior to Ir's).
The bacground music for some of the songs reminds me of my favourite 80's songs, and the brilliance is there.
Theone thing I noticed that IR's music puts me in a very relaxed mood, even feel nostalgic. I never feel this way with ARR's or Deva's music.
A must buy for anybody with good taste.

Hi
"Oh Baby Baby" - I just happened to hear this song...
Sorry to see Raja's score going below his standard..(some one has said it sounds like Raja in 80's - no way)
Major Mistake : Vijay goes out of pitch often...
Instruments sounds used are not handled properly
by Raja... There is no feel or "Unarchi" in the song... Raja has done this song for the sake of doing it..vijay has sung it for the sake of singing it and Raja fans say good about it for the sake for being a Raja Fan.
I will soon hear the other songs...
then consider buying the CD...

srikanth,
i agree with u in that the song by vijay is indeed not very melodious nor catchy as i expected since vijay is said to have been very happy when IR called him for a song and i expected a hit number from them.but u have been unfortunate in that u happened to listen to this song first.listen to the 'ennai' song and pattampoochi song and yaatramozhi song from MPR's site if u have realplayer facility.and pass on your comments.though i am an ardent fan of IR's music
i don't listen to all of his songs just because
he has composed the music.iam very very selective.
infact i ultrafiltered all his 80's songs and made
just 2 cassettes.so iam choosy.but i feel that the above three songs are pretty decent enough to show that he is still capable of giving good music.pl. listen to them.

I have seen "Kadhaluuku Mariathai" in Washington d.c. today. One can envy at the BGM which is explicitly mentioned in Anantha Vikatan. Songs had a perfect fit in the film. But I was really frustrated by some of our guys making ugly comments as if they are entertaining the entire crowd and spoiling the mood of people who got invloved in the film. If it were Tamilnadu then they can enjoy these sort of fun. But we had only one show and their behaviour spoiled the tempo. Also while going back to India they dare to say that Americans are more courtetious and Bloody indians have to learn a lot from them. Particularly they created flutter at the end of each song.

I am joining Sathya and others:
'Respect for Love' should be translated as Respect and Love for our Great Raja. The songs, Yennai Thallaatta Varuvallo and Oh Baby Baby has some of the finest interludes and orchetrations I have ever heard in my life. These interludes if given the chance to develop on their own can evolve into a symphony or a concerto for the harp and the piano. I am not exaggerating.
The interludes compare with that themes of For a few dollars more, the Magnificient Seven etc.
It is time Raja also created some Theme tunes just like the Bond and Western sphagetti movie themes.
This will complete Raja's musical mission,
May the Raja live forever.
( I am thinking, if we can clone Raja!, Anyone for it. Just a FEW DOLLARS MORE!)

Hai Guys,
I've gone thru' everybody review here. I rate the songs in KM r great.
I am very happy & fortunate to listen to the songs in the movie here in madras. Before watching the movie i too felt that these songs as ordinary one, but once u listen to the songs in movie situation
u'll definetely find the stamp of IR in it.
Even 'o baby' song will be so nice to listen after u watch it. In the Beginning i thought that song is not good one, but once u listen after watching the movie u'll know the difference.
particularly the starting bit ' viziyil vizhi moothi idhaya kathavu indru theranthe..', guys watch this bit in movie,
oops Shalini will give a look, i can't belive my eyes is she our old (baby)shalini patti?
definetely anyone will fall at her.May be the music mus have done some magic here.
This bit definetely take the audience to 'alagial oovithuillai' period, IR only can think of
giving those stuffs. Again here some one has mentioned that vijay's pitch is going away. May be true
But i feel that song is too much for him. can u expect Kamal's level of music knowledge from
vijay? no!!. Definetely if u once agian listen to that song jus listen to that guitar(heavy orcherstration)
piece after the first saranam. It jus takes u to kamal's 'pootu vaitha kadal thitam' in singaravelan.
compared to other songs in that movie this will be last, but this one is also good one.
About other songs i rate 'Sangeetha Thrunaal' as best one instead of 'Ennai thalata varuvala'
Listen to the opening hamm(jaa jaa.. with simulatenous back music) by bavatharani in that song. The opening hamm will call u again & again to hear it.
About 'Anantha kuil' again u cannot remove it from the situation, it is such a kind of family
song i bet u that there wo'nt be anyother decent song in today TFM great work by palani bahrathi(lyrics). Guys jus listen to the opening guitar music in that song, u'll love it! Definetely it is a 'Varusham 16' kind of stuff.
About 'Ayya voodu' it is such a kind of folk song so that u can never throw it to either dappan
koothu song category or to a melody one. The richness of music in that song r simply superb.
can any one expect a fisherman to sing a classy melodious song with a bottle of 'kallu' in his hand and dancing in his kuppam with his men around?
About 'pattam poochi', i feel this song has been over shadowed by the other great songs in that movie.
I also think that how it would have been if SPB instead of KJ has sung the song. This song is another great one .
About the 2 versions of 'thalata varuvalaa' - even though hariharan voice is good some places i feel
IR version is better than Hari's. Now namma makkal vayil ellam intha pattu than.
General Rating of songs
1. Among the 3 versions of 'thallata varuvalaa'
Sangeetha thirunal - stood first, but other song is superhit.
next comes Anantha kuil, then oru pattam poochi, Ayya voodu, o baby.If u consider bit song in this category i feel 'Viziyil vizi moothi', as the best one.
Guys jus remember no sat TV's advertisment for this movie till today and not even single song or
movie clipping has been telecasted in any of those sat TV.But Songs & movie is superhit
As a whole it a outstanding album by IR in recent times.
One thing guys this movie is definetely a lesson for those lovers who'll think of running away
from there loving parents leaving them in sadness.
Finally try to watch the movie and hear the songs..
Thanku all for ur 'poorumai'.
p.s:- Sorry for spelling mistakes. Expecting ur comments.

KANS OR ANYBODY,
are there no new songs in sat tv noadays?
is this going to be the fate of all movies from now? so is it bye bye to top 10 and other programmes in sun tv?can someone in india
pl. tell about this ?
reg kathaluuku mariyathai songs oru pattampoochi is as good as ennai thalaata varuvaala and a shade better than ananda kuyilin paatu in terms of melody.for carnatic music lovers the song would be even more appealing since it is set in naatai raaga.other songs in this raaga include:
pani vizhum malarvanam
innum ennai enna seiyya pogirai-gambhira natai
pattu poo pattu - veera(very good bit song unfortunately overshadowed)
u can notice the similiarity between these songs and the one in KM even if u are not aware of the raaga.fantastic interludes and the violin
pieces are very good.there is also a variation in speed in the song ,the song slows down a bit and again picks up speed.IR has done like this before in raakamma and here too it is appealing.as the song is raaga based i find KJY's voice apt after all for this song.

Dear Vijay
Actually I heard from one of my friend is that since in Sun TV in top 10 movies section that guy
(James Vasantan)is too harsh in his comment. So b'cos of that many producers decided not to give clippings to Sat TV. But as all of us knows about our kodambakkam guys and there mentality, many had not kept there words. So it is not that there is no top 10 section at all , even yesterday Philips top10 was there and new movies were there in it. But as for as KM case for nearly 30 days they have'nt gave any clip to Sat TV's. But last sunday it was in No1 in top 10 movie section and few scene has been shown.May be the movie
is already running like anything so the producer might not want to waste money for advertisment.
But in Philps 10 no song has been shown from KM till this week. It is true that producer decided not to give clipping for Sat TV's.
Now Sun TV started interviewing public for there rating of songs in P's top 10 section.
Reg. pattam poochi, u may be correct but, but for me 'anantha kuil' is more appeleaing. That's why i said pattam poochi is been overshadowed by other good ones.
May be for u in 'Anantha kuil' the combinations of different singers(male) might have made u to think in that way. I accecpt that pattam poochi is also good one. I accecpt u r comment about the violen intrludes etc, its really great.
Have u listen to that bit song before 'o baby' what is u r comment and that heavy Guitar interludes in that song.

Guys - I watched Kaathalikku Mariyaathei and I loved the movie. I bought the album much earlier, and except for Yennai thaalaatta varuvaalo, was not impressed. IMO, Ayya voodu was the pits (i didnt't say that tho') and Aanantha kutyilin paattu was very ordinary.
After seeing the movie, I think ALL the songs fitted the situations. Yennai thaalaatta varuvaala is simply the best. Oh baby, baby reminded me too much of It's a jolly, jolly life, that I didn't quite enjoy it. The intro the song was indeed good. Ithu sangeetha thirunaalo didn't create an impact, because it was almost towards the end of the movie.
Overall one of the better movies in recent times.

Lemme come to OH BABY BABY !!!
Its an excellent song !!! no doubt about it. Vijay has done a good job comparing his previous attempts at singings. What pitch ????? This is not a carnatic song man ... this is a song that a man sings in exuberance of his found love and the song goes well with the movie. That is ilayaraja again, he will compromise so that the song goes well with the movie, but not like others who seem to compose songs entirely not connected to the movie, to make sure they sell more cassettes. Then coming to the nuances of the song,, well l the way keyboard interludes and the guitar are played is siuperb.Try imitating this on a keyboard yourself, then you will know the beauty. Another aspect is it gives a illusion of a fast peppy song wheras it turns out to be a very good melodious number interleaved with some heavy beats. Its certaiin;y a soothing and exuberant song that i listen regularly while driving to and from work.
