  ir survived b4 VM's entry into film industry in the late 70's....IR still managed to survive without him during this days....
  but arr.....was molded with VM's lyrics since his first day in the industry...he never tried without VM...even songs by valli never did that well with arr.

  VM's opputunities will come down.
  He has IR, ARR, KR, YSR filtered from his combination. Young lyric writers have come up well. Film makers will choose music director first and then go for lyricist.

  hahaha As long as he was with IR his lyrics were decent.. the reason is IR himself knows something about lyrics.. he got the best of VM unlike ARR.

  IR really took off after the entry of VM and fell flat on his face, when VM left him.

  VM left him long back!! JOke of the century!! VM became popular because of wonderful tunes of IR. Without IR nobody would be aware that there is a person called VM.
  
  He never had to depend on anyone. He had KKD. He had Mehta, He had Kamarasu, He had GA, He had Panchu Arunachalam, He had Pulamai Pithan, He had Vaali, He had Muthulingam, He had so many... VM is a hypocrite.. he is mad after popularity. He will do anything to hog the limelight. Truth is lot of lyricists who were modest, had their own chances. VM is the only one who around flaunting that he is great and all.

  Say what you want. IR is a BIG ZERO without VM.
  VM managed to get TWO awards after leaving IR.
  What has IR achieved since then?

  OK, considering IR to be parasite:
  
  still IR has/had lots of pry like what JJ listed not just one pry called VM. IR had "sucked" blood of these very good prys who are as great as VM (though i tend to say that some are infact better than VM in many areas of film lyrics). Hence IR was not dependent only on VM. So IR cannot be said ZERO if no VM.
  
  Managing to get National award, OK man!! so did IR without VM, twice, didn't he??
  
  What happened to the GREAT VM after he left IR. Had there not been a ARR all would have totally forgotten VM.
  
  Now this makes me to think the way as Kalai said.
  Without a proper MD (of the status of IR/ARR) VM is ZERO.
  
  I would go one step ahead and say that VM was more algorithmic in his approach to ARR. Agreed that they are/were popular. But those were not of very great quality baring a few (excluding the noted chinna chinna aasai that gave a rebirth to VM, which is nothing but a algorithmic approach). I'm not saying that algorithmic approach is bad. I'm saying that algorithmic approach is not a great way (IMHO).
  
  Now, how big hit were Kannaththil muththamittal(KM) songs or Paarthalae Paravasam (PP) songs, that had VM-ARR combo??? It is because the KM/PP tunes were not appreciated well by people. This proves that the tune has more appeal to the people than the lyrics. If u have a good lyrics in the tune and if the tune becomes hit, it(tune) becomes a vehicle to launch the goodness of the lyrics otherwise whatever be the kaviththuvam of the lyrics its going into trash if u have not a tune that is not appreciated at all. This is the present mindset or whatever it is regarding to TFM world (including the rasikaas).
  
  People generally follow the footsteps of the path setter. If u have a hit in the name of a kounder or thevar then u see a lot of films with that title. Similarly if a IR/ARR uses a VM then u see lot of people using VM. If IR/ARR shuns him then VM's chances will also dwindle. Remember the state of VM after he shunned (are was shunned by) IR? That time no other MDs ( a lot were around) using VM. Especially after KB had a fight with IR, KB still produced many films with Maragadha Mani(MM) as MD. Maragadha mani did not combined with VM for all of his ventures (even for KB movies), (e-g) mu.metha/muthulingam for movies like azhagan was used. Ofcourse VM was also tried in vaanamae aellai (VA). In and After VA, KB and MM tried to project VM as a great lyricists. They were not so successfully. Only the advent of ARR (a great MD) stabilised VM's career once again in TFM. Otherwise thats it.
  
  Hence, i go with Kalai.

  VM craves for attention. KKD never fell under someone feet to consider him as a lyricist. But VM had to do "jalra" works to get some chances.
  IR was a task master who drilled VM. VM can get away with those things if the MD is ARR who doesn't care about lyrics anywayz. Columbus, Texas, Sanfrancisco, Take it policy, Peta rap, Telephone mani, Digitalil sedukkiya, Muqabala, September Madham, No problem, shakalaka baby, love panna thonaliya, chaiyaa chaiyaa ... these are the "tamil words" ARR use in the name of setting trend. Now ARR uses other lyricists. VM's ego can't take it. There are so many lyricists far better than VM. It is just he managed to get cozy with top director Bharathi Raja and top Musician Illayaraja. BR-IR combo was mostly hit. Through their successful combo VM got identified.
  Because all the songs were hits. Whether VM wrote or anybody else wrote. But VM through interviews and "jalra" with BR made himself popular. He is not as great as he rates himself.

  st, reports says jj was running mad not knowning what to do next, he cannot blame the award itself as fluke etc, because one of the song from azagi has got award for Sadhana sargam...(who is now in good books for many here :) ),
  so Jj (whom i feel is the double duet of uthaman) does not know what to do, he is running like chicken whose head was cut for cooking..

  Hehehe National Award is the least respected award. Have you seen all the national award winning movies man? probably you can't sit through few minutes. Same goes with his music. Can't hear for more than 5 minutes. Bombay Dreams is testimony to how bad Indian music has become these days. hahahaha. IR's name is in Guinness book. Let ARR score faster. So that he can catch up with Deva atleast!!!! For ARR to enter into Guinness it will take 1000 years!!! Such a slow and pathetic, unimaginative composer he is.
