U are clearly a lack of common sense. I have clrearly stated that KJY,SPB,Rafi are equals. Yes and KK is a few thousand miles behind.

rAjAjI :-))))))) . i am tempted to start thread like miriam makebA and latA mangeshkar, debussy and iLayaraaja, britney spears and sadhana sargam and there would be no comparisons anywhere! mark twain once mentioned "a sucker is born every day". we get ample proof here :-))))

rajaG,
That playback singers should inherently be good actors is true. I beleive Latha is great one at mimicking people, especially actors and actresses, which she does for fun with her family. In fact many Rafi's and Asha's songs fall flat on the screen when the actors are unable to fully express the emotions that are brought out in the songs by them.
SDB it seems gave Asha the best recipe for being a good playback singer. He told her "make the song your own, imagine that the lyrics is yours and the music is yours and you are singing it in this situation." Asha supposedly finds out as much as possible about how the song will be shot, on whom and even about the costumes. Asha is supposed to have even moved her lips like Bindu's while singing "Mera naam Shabnam".

LV,
snake legs are known to another snake...only, hope you get me.
btw: your golden f.statement ,
I have clrearly stated that KJY,SPB,Rafi are equals....
(IN WHAT SIZE OR WEIGHT...)
we are here to argue rafi is the best in india or not, you have been saying rafi the best in most of the threads here and to save your a.. you add spb and kjy are also good, you are scoring same side goals, imfo: you have not made single contribution to this thread other than abusing everyone and using spb/kjy appreciation as a shield.

aruL,
When my son was young, like 3 years old, he would want a new story everyday at bed-time. After we ran out of stories, we started making up some. He realised that, so decided to give us the cast himself, a new one everyday. Example: 'Today's story should have Anjaneya and Amitabh Bachchan'! unga post padichchappo nyaabagam vanthuchu :-)

Sugrutha:
pOttu kudukkaradhu nnaa kandippaa IMF Oda "perumaiya" paththi sollunga:-). While it is true that SPB used KK and Rafi as an inspiration (among others), not many people understand that he is a great student of the art of "playback singing" and how immensely he has contributed to the subject, in his own inimitable way. It is only because he raised it by a few notches, that we encounter disappointment when singers following him (in time period NOT style) do NOT leverage out of the level already achieved.

RajaG: You asked for the link and i provided it for you. I read your postings and you were talking abouth the sangidhis in the middle of madhuban me radhika. That i think is Balbir singing that part. I will have to doulble check on that. You yourself are an idiot when you don't make yourself clear. You wanted the link to check out rafi's technical abilities and i provided it for you. You never said provide me the link so that i can check out who is singing the middle sanghidis of that song, though you think you were saying that. And SPB did not use kk as an inspiration as you mentioned. His only inspiration was rafi.

I am a great fan of Rafi too, but there has been sufficient amount of hype connected with certain facets of his singing. Naming one, range. His bass voice isn't all that good, so that's out. Secondly, though he could traverse from the lowest pitch to the highest effortlessly, he has not shown any degree of control in incorporating brighas or sangathis at that pitch without sounding like a novice. If you compare TMS's 'mullai malar mElE' (where he does an agaaram (or whatever :) in the charanam (at a very high pitch) without giving a semblance of a feeling that he is going to falter) with Rafi's 'dAman to thAmA' line in 'dil jO na keh sakA', you will agree with me. SPB does admit that Rafi was one of his inspirations, but that's nature's law, 'ondril irunthu thAn ondru'. That does not take away an iota of his greatness.
Furthermore, I have repeatedly come accross postings that emphasize the theatrical aspect of SPB's personality so much so that his musical prowess otherwise has been completely ignored. There HAS NOT been a male singer before or after SPB who has shown the same degree of grasp of nuances of a tune and sensitivity to the flow of a tune. Who else has incorporated sangathis with so much of sense of timing and placement before and after him ? None. Who has shown a better sense of 'anubaviththu pAduthal' and intuitive sense of emphasizing certain important phrases in a song ? Again, none. These too are music related only. These aspects of his singing are best recognized when there is a melody composer worth his salt around. I rest my case here.
Nostalgic souls who can recollect a 'vaZhvil sowbAggiyam vanthathu' or a 'enakkoru kAthali irukkindrAL' will second what I have stated above.
