  What about Kishore Kumar, he was another untrained genius. Very versatile artist.

  SPB is one of the greatest singers India has ever
  produced. There are other great singers also. MD.RAFI, KJY,
  KISHOREDAA etc. But BALU remains the most versatile
  singer who experimnted a lot with this voice singing myriad moods
  in totally different tones, not always possible even

  Have u heard the entire range of Kishore Kumar? Please don't compare two singers. There is plenty of room at the top. Kishore, Rafi, SPB, KJY are all great. No one can say that one singer is better or the other singer is better.

  I have not heard the entire range of Kishore, then again no one has, no one can & no one will, I do personaly prefer Rafi's voice over Kishore & SPB's voice over all of them, Kishore never had a fabulous voice like Dr.SPB, Kishore often sounded like Illaiyarajah (just listen to these two voices carefully, then you will see), listen to SPB's song with Kishore in "saagar", you can easily notice SPB is the clear winner, you are right, we should not be comparing Kishore with SPB, because is SPB is far greater than Kishore.
  
  SPB & KJY are only singers in India to have achieved 7 national awards, I think SPB should be awarded the "ganga ratna" award!"!!
  
  Oh by the way, Have you heard the entire Range od Dr.SPB???

  Padmashri is not a natioal award for playback singing (and it is not awarded by Annamalai University).
  
  KJY won the Padmashri award in the 1970-s.

  This is a brilliant analysis. I am amazed at your skills at comparing voices. Kishore sounds like IR. next what. Mukesh sounds like MSV?
  
  I have heard a variety of SPB, Kishore, Rafi, Mukesh, KJY songs. I have SPB's Shankarabharanam to Duet. I agree there is a lot of SPB before Shankarabharanam too but the era after that also encompasses SPB's range. After listening to the range of these amazing singers, I can only conclude that we cannot compare one with another.We should enjoy all of what these singers can offer us and not waste time denigrating them
  
  BTW by the way I am not suggesting that you are insulting Vinayak by comparing him to IR. IR's voice is also good in his own way. But he does not resemble Kishore from any angle.
