  The "Kaai"kal that Kannadasan used in this song from Bale Pandiya do not refer to vegetable. They are requests upon the moon to shine its rays on certain objects. However there are few kaikal in the song that refer to vegetable such as:
  
  1."Vellarikkai" pilanthathu pol Vennilave nee sirikkayo
  2."Mathulangkaai" aanaalum thoothu vazhangaai vennila
  3. Ullamellaam "milagaiyo" ovvoru sollum suraikkayo...
  The rest of the kaai are not nouns but verbs.
  
  There was no necessity and room for SuNdaikkai in this song.

  If I can remember correctly it was Shakuntala Devi(the Mathematician) who said Vendaikai is good to improve memory.But, I may be wrong. In any case Vendikkai is very expenssive(a rare vegetable) in

  Even in these three in first line the kai is a noun.
  
  Rest you have to read like this.
  "madhu" "Ulam" "Kay" means pennin ullam kayanalum
  
  Ullamella milagayo - Ullam ellam Ilagayo
  
  But there are two more kais are used as noun.
  "aelakkaay" vaasanaipoal engal ullam vaazhakkaay
  "jaadhikkaay" kaettadhupoal thanimai inbam kaniyakkaay

  Are you sure its Ullamellaam Ilagayo?
  
  In the film Balaji sings these lines as soon as Vasantha inserts a chili into his mouth. So it has to be Ullamellam "Milagayo". Anyway Kannadasan has taken too many nouns and verbs to cook "koottu" for us. Yet the taste is good.
  
  there are many other songs with Vaarthai Vilayaattu such as:
  1. Paarthen Sirithen-Veera Abhimanyu
  2. Entha Oor Endravane-KAtu Roja
  3. Chinnavalai mugam chivanthavalai- Puthiya Boomi
  4. Athaan Ennathaan Avar Ennaithaan-Pava Mannippu
  
  Many other cine poets tried to follow Kannadasan and never made it. In an earlier film Uzhavukkum Thozhilukkum Vanthanai Seivom-(a film by Honnappa Bhagavathar of Karanataka) too there is a song by sc Krishnan - "Kaai Kaai Avaraikkai". But Athikkai is still the best so far. Valee tried in Paal Thamizh Paal in Ragasiya Police 115. Recently newcomers tried to follow Kannadasan, and yet could not match his excellence.

  explanation is interesting. Perhaps Kannadhasan
  had the second in mind and the Balaji-miLagaai
  sequence was planned by the Director to give a

  anju,aru were used as verbs. The great thing is Kannadasan used only simply words in all his songs.

  In this song he describes his heroine comparing her with rhe best in any particular group.
  
  Ithai parthu Vairamuthu tried "Kulicha kuthalam"

  I have pudhiya bhoomi paattu pusthagam
  with me. Vaali was NOT involved in this movie
  at all! All songs are by Kannadhasan and Poovai
  Chenguttuvan. In particular, the two main hit
  songs, chinnavaLai and vizhiyE vizhiyE

  there is another song in puthiya bhoomi "nAnthAndi kAthi , nalla muthu paethi , othaiyA moththamA eththanai paer vARInga " by PS. I have this song with me. Is it also written by Kannadasan? ChinnavaLai ("vaLai" song) is definitely by Kannadasan.

  I thought it COULDN'T be by Kannadasan.
  Kannadasn has written few songs with piquant lyrics in jest to induce a frivolous mood as in "kaathal malar koottam ondRu , veethi vazhi pOgum endRu yaarO sonnAr". Even in this song he uses word play like 'vakkeelaathu vasantha un manathai enthan vasam tha' (vasantha ,vasam tha).

  Al lot of mistakes have been made by far too many people in the cine filed. Upon the death of uathors more mistakes are made by the next generation. Examles:
  
  1. Vizhiye Kathai Ezhuthu- the record says it is by Valee, but the movie title says it is by Kannadasan.
  
  2. The song Poojaiiku Vantha Malare Vaa is by Kannadasan. It is said that Kannadasan had attempted it first for Pachai Vilakku, but the movie and the song book say it is by Valee. Thamizhpithan (original name Arunasalam) a close frien of Kannadasan who was there during the composition of the song verified that the song was by Kannadasan.
  
  3. There is a song in Panakkara Kudumbam "Athai Malal Rathinathai" separately sung by P.Suseela and TMS. While the two records carry the separate names of TMS and P.Suseela, unfortunately they carry the song of P.Suseela alone. This is HMV 78rpm record.
  
  4. Someone had mentioned in one of the threads that the song Paattum Naaney Bavamum Naaney from Thiruvilayadal was written by Ka.Mu. Sheriff. Well the MD KVM and his mucic party members, the singer TMS and the actor Sivagi Ganesan are still alive to bear witness to the real writer. It is certainly by Kannadasan. This confusion was thrown by the writer Jeyakanthan in his book "Oru Ilakkiyavathiyin Kalai Ulaka Anubavangal" Actually there is a song in Thiruvarut Chelvar which goes "Irukkum IDathai Vittu" which was said to be written by Ka Mu Sheriff. This again was by Kannadasan. There ias another song similar to this -almost word for word by Ka MU sheriff in the film Panam Panthiyile. The confusion started because both Kannadasan and Ka Mu sheriff had taken the words and theme from an earlier sithar paadal.
  
  5. The dialogue for Mangayar Thilakam ws by Kannadasan, but as he was in the DMK party he did not use his own name as the film had some religious touch. Kannadasan himself later veiried this.
  
  6. It was widely said that Kannadasan was the one who wrote the dialogue for Thaiikku Pin Tharam. But it was Sa Aa Aiyapillai I think. Kannadasan was very popular and yet busy in politics. So he allowed his name to be used.
  
  7. Not the entire dialogue for Nadodi Mannan was by Kannadasan. There was another person who helped out in completing the dialogue.
  
  8. Many films have joint work on film music. But only the name of the popular ones come out. For exapmle, Chandirani is by CRS and MSV. But only CRS comes out. I have an entire list of such films which when revealed would put many into further astnishment.
  
  9. We know that K. Balachander directed the movie Pattina Piravesam, but his name was not used. Was Komal Swaminathan's name shown in the title? I tink so.
  
  10. In the film Thai Piranthaal Vazhi Pirakkum there is a song called Aasaiye Alai Pole. Kannadasan wrote this won the cigarette packet box while waiting in the car for the train to cross. Thiruchi Loganathan was in the car. He requested to sing that song once completed. As the song became popular Kannadasan's name surfaced.
  
  11. The song Kadavul Oru Naal Ulagai Kaana in the fim Shanthi Nilayam ws written in a military hotel while Kannadasan was waiting for the omlet.
  
  12. The famous film Savale Samalee has got a song Yanaiku oru Kalam vanthal. Radio announcers used to announce it as a song by Kannadasan, but it was by Malliam Rajagopal.
  
  In this way many songs have been written everywhere, for which there is no proper record. Kannadasan was once told that his songs were published in collections of other cine poets. He was not surprised. He said it was his fault that he did not keep proper record of them. Valee too has said that the songs of Kannadasan and Valee got mixed up several times in stduios and both of them had no time to put aright the history.
  
  So let me not confuse you any further and confuse myself in the course of it. I just wish to accept that the cinema news has become a masala mixture.
