  Actually, the orignal version of "KNICKERS FLAPPING IN THE WIND" was sung by the country legend, John D'Almbert ("Johndal"). He was the first latino tomake a break through in country music, a genre mostly dominated by the mid-western singers. what many people don not know is that D'Alambert is actually a French-speaking Belgian whose parents moved to US in the fifties.
  .
  In the seventies the "Knickers.." was a rage among the hip generation. Johndal could not repeat the success with his later songs and eventually faded out. This in itself is a tragedy, a sad story..
  .
  Of the three or four versions of the "Knickers..", the msot famous and enduring is the pathos version by Melissa (1988).

  I came to this thread while searching the web for the 70's hit . Surprised to know this song is still popular in in thailand now, after almost 20 years. BTW, the full name of the singer JOHN'DAL is Jeane D'Alembert (pronounced roughly Zhan' Dalambar), and not 'John D'Alembert' as mentioned by somebody.
