Unearthing Rare Golden Oldies of TFM into MP3s

There are many many wonderful songs in old TFM (especially belonging to the period before 1980) which many of us have heard and enjoyed in the days of their popularity, but, as years rolled by those songs came to be heard only rarely. This thread is an attempt to unearth such golden oldies. Those who have longed to hear such songs can make a "nEyar viruppam" request here. In response, those who have the songs can convert them into MP3s and share it with others here. Through sites like coolgoose.com and Yahoo briefcase, it is now possible to do such sharing easily.

As rare songs are unearthed and brought out as MP3s, it would be natural to listen to them and discuss them here, so that this thread does not simply become just a set of requests and supplies.

My sister Sathya Kabali has a large collection of rare TFM goldies in cassettes and she is in the process of converting them into MP3s and putting them in coolgoose. The songs she has uploaded are available at this link:

  I have noted down all of your requests right from the beginning. Most of them are in casettes. Some are recorded from radio. Much cleaner songs and songs from CD I am urling one by one.

  Any One having Lata Mangeshkar's first tamil song ?
  
  It starts with the lyric that goes like this: "uyarndhen kannaalan...". It is a beautiful song and was recorded at a very early time of her singing career and it has a beautiful chorus. It is a surprise that she was seldom tried anymore in tamil cine music after that song.

  Da Vinci Are you referring to the song "oh enthan kaNNALan karai nOkki pOkiRaan alaiyE kUdavE pO " in vAnaratham?
  the chorus sings "meLLavE pO meLLa meLLa" Latha's voice is so sweet... in that song. I think vAnaratahm was some old Hindi movie dubbed in Tamil.vAnaratham had some other good songs. I used to listen to that song in Ceylon radio nenjil nirainthavai program.
  inthap pAdal antha nAtkaLin malarum ninaivugaLai thooNdi vittathu. Those were the days I used to write down the lyrics with a pencil while hearing the songs. No casette player... That way I wrote down the lyrics for so many years. When my brother sk saw that huge collection he put them in the web; PPP (pazhaiya pAdal pakkam).   Yes, I am referring to that song. It must be around 20 years since I heard it and so I have forgotten the lyric, but I still remember Lata's sweet voice and that wonderful chorus ending with "hoyaree, hoyare hoya...". I guess the scene must have been a group of people going in a boat !
  
  Ceylon Radio was a treasure house of the best things that happened in Tamil film music. I havent heard that song anywhere else. I found another rare song which never saw the day light in another thread ('Thingaz Maalai Ven Kudaiyan, by KJY, from the unreleased film 'Karumbu') and I am eager to see if I can get this beautiful song too.

  Sathya: The name of the Hindi movie dubbed as Vaanaratham is Udan Katola (I think). I had a 33 rpm LP with the Tamil songs by Lata Mangeshkar. If I can find it, I will send you a copy. I bought that in 1969. It is somewhere in my house.

  `Vaanaratham' is a dubbed version of `Uran Katola' as Raj mentioned. I have a copy of the song `Enthan Kannalan karai nokki pogiran', but quality wise it isn't that great. If no one else comes up with the song in the next few days, I will upload it.
  By the way, isn't `Inru Enthan nenjil' from `Aan' the first Tamil song by Lata Mangeskar?

  Sathya, I have the songs of Vaanaratham on tape, not top-notch quality- but I'll try to do something about them. Or as a last resort, I send the tape to SK when he returns!
  
  Raj is right- Udan Khatola was the Hindi original. Music by Naushad.

  Now I remember 3&5 T.A.Mothi songs. 6. Latha song. All today I was trying to recollect these 4 songs.
  
  Did S.Rajalakshmi sing in the film "aan"? (a.a. mentioned this film). Aan had a few good songs. Do you have 'aan" songs?

  Sathya do you happen to have the 2 VJ songs from Bala Nagamma(sangeetham en dhegam and Manmadha raagangale) ? Also needed is a decent quality version of sangeethame en jeevane and other songs from Kovil pura.

  sangeedhamE - balanagammA - I think I recorded that song in 80s. I will check my casette collection and let you know.
  Koyil puRa 2 songs are in IR casettes. will find out the quality.
  mazhai tharumO - long back I recorded from ceylon radio. searching for that song and also rambha oorvasi mEnakAby SPB.
  veNNilAvum vAnum - K.p.bramachchAri - got it from the video casette. sk will be back next week. once the cleaned version is ready we will url it.
