niraya padithu vitten! We have talked about PS, SJ, VJ etc etc. There used to be an unfortunate singer by name Uma Ramanan. She has some very good songs to her credit. There is lot of grace in some of her songs like -
1. thanniyile nananja, ithu from keladi kanmani
2. manam karukkuthu mazha vara
pakkuthu from nee thana antha kuyil.
She seems to be next only to S Janaki in such sensuous songs.

That dappa song was by two dappa singers. They were TLMaharajan (son of the prolific Tiruchi Loganathan) and a more vague female called Lalithaa Saagari. She did sing a few more junk songs for the junk MD Chandrabose.
BTW, I did recollect your song 'maanam karukkuthu mazai varap paakkuthu' from neethaana anthak kuyil. yammammaa yammaa yammaa yammaammaaaaaa....

I don't know if this belongs in here. In the early 80-s when the
Madras DD used to carry thamizh programmes, sometimes as fillers,
they used to play some songs for 2-3 minutes. One of my favorites
among them is bhArathiyAr's
thondRu nigaizhntha dhanniththun uNarndhidum
sung by Uma and her hubby Ramanan.
That's probably the best ever song sung by Uma (in my opinion of course).
Anyone remember this?

Aravind - What about his songs such as Maampoovey siru mainavey, Oadaiyina nalloadeh, Kaaki satteh poatta machan, etc, etc.? Can you give me a few of his horrible songs. (Please note that I have not turned into a CB fan - it's just that calling him a junk MD may be going a bit too far)

One good song from CB in the 80's is Medhuva
Medhuva oru kaadhal paattu from Anna Nagar mudhal theru - *ing satyaraj.
One horrible CB song is 'engamma maharasi ellam un kairasi' from Machchanaip paaththengala'. This song used to be aired almost everyday on AIR when this movie was released.

CB did atleast half a dozen movies for AVM - (raaja chinna rOja, manithan, peNmuththu munpuththi, maanagarak kaaval etc), viduthalai, puthiya paathai, oru thottil sabatham....Atleast 20 movies from 88-91 and 75% were junk, 20% OK and the remaining were good.
His good songs in that period are 'methuvaa methuvaa', 'mallikaippU pUththirukku', 'nIlak kuyilgaL reNdu', 'kaaki sattai pOtta machchaan'....

Aravind - are you sure CB was the MD for Viduthalai (remake of Hindi Qurbani)? Almost all the songs were copies from the original.
If I remember right, Roja Chinna Raja (movie with cartoon ala Who Framed Roger Rabbit?) had some nice songs. So too had Manithan (eg. title song by MSVasudevan)
