Has anyone not listened to Kallelo song in Sambhu? It is a fanstastic composition with brilliant prelude, rhythm, interludes and a POSTLUDE different from any tune in the song.
It is a spectacular follow-through for the song. Hear this song' ending and you can recognize that IR is taking the advanced listeners to the next level to a higher impressionist metaphysical kinda plane.
Anyway, there a few songs in TFM with postludes, each of those are classics of TFM- a. Poongatru Un Peyr Solla (Vetri Vizha-IR); 2. Poove Sempoove (Solla Thudikuthu Manasu-IR) I know there are many more, including percussion postludes like in Megam Kottatum (Enakkul Oruvan- IR); Mukkala Muqabla (Kadhalan-ARR)
Can we bring them out here. (Don't forget include spectacularly spontaneous laughter types like by SJanaki in "Intha Minminikku Kannil Oru Minnal Vandhadhu" (Sigappu Rojakkal-IR) which happens to have been emulated by Michael Jackson few years later in the amazing Thriller number!!!!!

I can list a few though I dont know if the following hummings can be categorised under 'postludes'
. Vaazha ninaithaal vaazhalaam (the postlude is a beautiful humming by P Susheela)
. Thoodhu sella oru thozhi (PS and LRE, similar to the above one, LRE does the humming here)
. Thoongaatha kannidru onru (PS/TMS)

The short and sweet postlude in Kalyani in the song 'Kannaale kaadhal kavidhai' film Aathma is mesmerising. The same goes to 'Kokarako kozhi' from Kalaigyan , with mediocre singing by Kamal, crappy lyrics , but wonderful prelude, interlude chorus and postlude. I listen to this song just for these.

There are scores of songs that have had apt postludes even in the 60s.
nAn unnai chErntha selvam
oru rAjA rANiyidam
oru nALilE uRavAnathE etc
Postludes in the above cases are are almost like the mother lovingly stroking her child after putting it to sleep. Perfect Bye-for-now-love-see-you-later master strokes.

Actually more than just scores of songs, if you care to listen to the movie versions of the songs and not the Vividh Bharathi versions :).

Though I haven't heard this song for more than 10 years, I still vividly remember the fantastic postlude (I think some instrument like Jaladharangam is being used , accompanied by flute ) in the song 'Adi penne ponnunjal aadum ilamai' from Mullum malarum.
Mumbai Ramki,do the songs in your list have postludes worthy of mention or just songs which have some postlude? Just curious.

Mythila, Adi penne had one of the best postludes ever. I could just listen to this ending alone several times in that song. You are right, I think it had jaladharangam along with tabla, mridhangam and a variety of other instruments. You should see the picturization too, Mahendran does full justice most of the time.

Didn't knwo so many had it! meantime, I recommend the other song in Sambhu "Dosedu Mallelu" It is super. Addictive! got a good ending too. Did you notice that Kalello song had two different charanams. The singer sounds like SPB also.
Is Sambhu making news in Andhra?

//"which happens to have been emulated by Michael Jackson few years later in the amazing Thriller number!!!!! "//
dude u make me laugh!! all the other things u said was fine and interesting.. but why did u have to put this.
it looks to me that u want to say " even MJ copied from IR.. that is the greatness of IR". i dont think u, this topic or IR needs this kinda comparison.
its amusing to think MJ or anyother hollywood perosnality in 70's & 80's wud have heard of the sj song u mention. a low probablity event unless we wanna flatter ourselves with lot of self importance

Bharath dude, thinkin of it now i am sure it is hihgly possible. (it does nt matter to me if you or your father or IR does not require comparison)
i used the wrong words. any artist to feel complete will make efforts to seek out ideas from any possible sources. why do you feel Western artistes won't find Indian pop worth their time. The whole discussion forum then only is not talking about possibilities
Listen to "Beat It" song and I did find a super resemblance all the way thru in the song' Ennadi Meenakshi. Two songs in the album with 2 unique ideas. I think MJ has been seekin inspiration elsewhere. Look man, SETI (some of the finest scientists) are searching for communications from zillions of noise signals in the universe. Do not limit yourself, Pal. Never discount your own intuition if you respect it. It can be crazy, it could kill ya, but it could also be true at some level beyond your frickin sarasm.

Hey Bharath, sorry I did not mean to be rude there;-). I want your opinion on this one and then you can understand my point - Rahman' Chandralekha song starts off with a charged electronic beat - two sounds in tandem. This song came in 1995 I think. Check out Briteny Spears hit Baby One More Time (1999) by the Swedish pop genius composer Max Martin - this song uses the almost same sound of Rahman as transition beats. Was that beat in any Western pop song before 95 I am not sure, but let me know

i think we can add kuluvalile - muthu(carnatic verses at the end of the song).
can oh la la la - minsara kanavu also be added here? its got a great drum beat almost at the end.

bb, nice of you to attach this thread to the song. some correction here: IR was probably not the only great in postludes, MSV has done some great ones, some in fact many a song of MSV carried great finishes.... almost every other composer has given some great postlude effects...
But, there is a but.... Indha Minminikki takes the cake absolutely. SJ outdid all instrumental possibilities with that absolutely mirthful "peels" of laughter (is it peals?) anyway, Janaki stole the song itself right from IR, I cannot think of any other singer who could've done it better, no not even Asha Bhonsle.

The best ever according to me is `iLaya nilA'...makes you yearn for the ending piece...I don't think I would've looked forward to the `ending' of any other endearing song so much... (That I wanted many other songs to end ASAP on radio is a different matter:-))

I wonder if Ilaya Nila was a creative postlude. Not to take away anything from the wonderful guitar playing, it is merely an instrumentation of the pallavi.
Naan ennum pozhudhu by SPB from dhooraththu idi muzhakkam (??) music by Salil Chowdhury has a really wonderful prelude and postlude.
Namma ooru singaari has a very peppy postlude.

G, adhu 100% pallavi on guitar illeenga:-), especially the concluding few notes are different and mesmerising...
`Germaniyin' has a special postlude too with SPB/SJ humming together...

Adi peNNE from Mullum Malarum and Megam Kottatum from yenakkuL oruvan would rank pretty highup the list. RG, I thought Naan yeNNUm pozhudhu had an artificially lengthened prelude and postlude(both of which are pretty much the same) to fit the timing of the song to the titles. It was a title song. I regularly listen to the song since its an all-time favourite of mine, but mostly for the melody and SPB's singing. The chorus is a bit jarring too probably because of the recording. I cant wait for SPB to start the pallavi whenever I listen to the song.
Amongst non-TF songs, thaththaaram from IR's Guru is special.

The most amazing postlude AIMO is from PudhupattiPonnuthaayi song "Manam pola mangalyam" . A great song in Saraswathi raaga. The postlude is a combination of thavil (rythm lovers can give it a try) , naadaswaram and some bit of wcm in strings. The prelude, a brief nadaswaram alaap in the raaga gives a nice buildup for this sadly unrecognized gem of a song.

I think "Manam pola mangalyam" is Hemavathy which resembles Saraswathy
