Being the resposible fans of IR, shall we define what we want from IR in future ?

Ravi:
Thank heavens for Ravi and Co., we all have a chance to redeem ourselves, let's use this opportunity.
I saw "Shakespeare in Love" last weekend ('All that you wanted a movie to be' is what they claim, and I wholeheartedly agree !!!) The background music was reminiscent of IR and I couldn't help wondering how much he could contribute to movies which are worthy of being seen on screen. I would desperately love to see him score music for Hollywood movies. He needs an opening here and some of our Indian film industry folks might actually be able to help. But that is where I would like to see IR's music sometime in the next 5 years. An Oscar perhaps...wishful thinking ? but then this thread is about wish-lists :-))

Srinath : I totally agree he can do go things here, but first task of Raja, will be to get back all his fans, he needs to be consistant, just one thalata varuvayo or meetatha veenai is not enouugh, he needs to do more, of late Raja is experimenting than before, an average fan will not understand these qualities.
AS far as hollywood goes, Just one movie is enough to impress this western socity.
Jackie Chan did it in just one movie, Raja will also do it.
Who will come forward to use his skills ? -- a million $$$ question. If I win a power ball, I will!

Srikanth;
Oru chinna request - Shankar has started a thread called "Bass Scores of Raja". Can you help out with the technicalities there ? You are right - just one break is enough to impress the western audience. But he cannot afford to do some Merchant-Ivory movie or parallel cinema. His break has to come thru' a well advertised movie with big stars in it. Appadiye Power-Ball win pannalum, take Tom Hanks in your picture, that will ensure a minimum Oscar nomination in 3 or 4 categories :-)) and Raja will also get some publicity ;-) But seriously speaking, I think his genius would be better exposed in a period-romantic movie rather than a sci-fi or action movie, where he can show off all his classical scores and not have to reveal any weaknesses in recording or special sound effects.

Srinath & Srikanth:
To get noticed you should be at the right place.
I personally feel there are a lot of people in India whose talents are wasted just because they are in India...do not get me wrong here..it is just that western world would turn a deaf ear when they really feel they have no means to gauge one's performance. So Raja has to get the right indian contacts in the western world to do that. May be he might have to stoop a little...would he be willing to do that?...another thought May be raja does not want to do anything in that level..some people become content when they know their own merit and care less for what others think..Raja might belong to that group.

Srinath, in this same DF, a thread for Sponsoring an IR album is gathering dust - Wishes cannot become horses - how I wish I could be in the US - ingey Indiavilaye first IR has to win back the total quantum of accolades he used to get some ten years back, as Srikanth as correctly suggested- -
In one interview, IR says " Now I want my fans around the world to make my music popular " and on the other hand , he does not release his Symphony and on yet another hand, our DFers hands are tied down from actually doing anything proactive in terms of getting an IR concert going in the US and things like this - idhu yenna kodumaiyyo. What do we call this - a perpetual anti-climax situation ?!

Madhan, it is a movement slowly building up and it will certainly fall in place. You can see this awareness is certainly growing. It will come like a flood when it happens, I am sure. IR is not an ordinary phenomenon and we don't have to be worried that we are being slow. It is a question of the right time and the right contacts. In the US, the world's market place, some of us are working on building some awareness and contacts.
IR's so far ahead and his music is going alongside contemporary music, which happens to be what is commercially viable as you cant expect every one in ten or one in fifty in the world to have a better appreciation like we do. We have to wait and meantime we can build webpages. It is certainly IRs fans responsibility to spread the message of IRs music outside South India. (We still have North India to look at!!)

I did not know such a wonderful thread is going on for a long time. I wish Illayaraja should see this thread once. Like Rajini is getting more and more power from his fans from Tamilnadu, We should support Illayaraja to utilize his knowledge in powerful ways.
I feel it is better to make this thread as a permanent thread.

What ever you guys feel.. I simply can't stand Raja's ego.. What happend to "world proclaimed" symphony? Does he think his 'pannaipuram rasigan' does not desreve to hear it..?
How can ask his fans to spread his music? Nonsense..
I was a crazy fan of IR.. once upon a time.. And now it is difficult for me to hear his recent music.. Karthik Raja sounds much better than him..
Has he gone into some sort of inferiority complex.. because I certainly know that he was suffering from superiority complex when he was at his peak.. (just like Kamalahasan)...
I don't think he can make a come back.. if he does I would be the most happiest person to listen to his music..

Raj:
I simply can't stand Raja's ego.
I think I am entirely on a different boat, Yes
I love Raaja's music as much as his personality
and him as a person including his EGO. I have
valid reasons to belive so, but don't want to
discuss about it. Ofcourse we are different
people with different opinions.

ir should release the symphony music.when will he release it
he is also doing another music album jayajayahe which is for the patriotism.when will he release it.

Chandy, MPR: that is the inside source at Prashad. IR want to release all five at the same time. It seems he composed one in each year since 1993. I don't know how much is true but I believe that is why IR did not release one at a time if felt he might be discouraged with the response for the first one. Another belief: he will release the symphonies through his own new recording studio by inviting the RPO to perform in Chennai. It is clear that he wants publicity and more money. So, watch out for this as soon as his recording studio opens.

But now looks like you're indeed serious about the
info. Though this story is real hard to believe

Just now (little late ofcourse) read this article in kumudam.
http://www.kumudam.net/apr08/lights.html
Looks like Illayaraja refused to music Kamal's 'Hey Ram' , just because the story is indirectly supporting Goetse.
Even it is true, may not be relevent for this thread. Just I like to share with you guys.

I want IR in the future to go back to being IR of the 70s. Even go back a little farther and revive like the melodies of earlier maestros, V Kumar, MSV etc. I would say enough of this techno stuff!

all this talk about ilaiyaraja afraid to release his symphony is nothing but nonsense as he has already said many times that the symphony has to be released worldwide simultaneously for which even he does not have the money for that
next;those who are genuine ilaiyas fans and even those who are not know well that unlike the other so called music directors ilaiyaraja is a genius and music comes spontaneously from him and it is very important to inspire him to give good and different music.but what is given to him (who has scored music for more than 800 films) is the same type of situations;even then he is responding with good songs so many times.to stress this point just remember the good music which he gave to great films like avadharam, kalapani, guru where the stories and situations were different and inspiring for him:
add to this the other problem .whereas arr takes around 3 to 4 months to complete a film ilaiya takes only 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete a film
so it takes a good director to give situations inspiring for him and to pick the good tunes which he scores
but the present crop of directors are scared of him to ask him for any other tune
but the greatest disppointment with him is that he has confined himself to the ordinary tamil film music.just dont forget the musical score of titanic and braveheart are rendered in a style similar to that of ilaiyarajas
just one good chance for him in hollywood movies and he is going to prove to the whole world that he is one of the greatest and the most unsung
composers to have lived in this earth
and coming to the ego problem
it is not wrong for a person who is so talented and blessed by God to be arrogant although all the talks of his being arrogant is only nonsense
