"The album kicks in with the very catchy ye ye ennachu sung by Vasundhara Das in manner that only she can. Next is a beauty of a ballad sonnalum by Unnikrishnan and Harini.
Vaan nila by Srinivas and Karthik is a highly innovative rock-n-roll track that would not let your feet rest. S P Balu is in his usual fantastic form in the heart warming yenthan vanin. Rahman takes off again into a very progressive FTV style track in bailmore with T R Simbu and Tippu doing the vocal honours. And the album ends on a grand note with Mano and Clinton going for the gut with o kadhale, which also sits on an emotional high note in the movie.
Kaadhal Virus has all the ingredients of a typical Kathir-A R Rahman soundtrack. A great mix of upbeat youthful tracks and soulful ballads"

Review of KV in Economic Times - Madras Plus supplement.
Hitting the Right Nore
Suchitra Ramadurai
A film, its music album and A R Rahman.
Album: Kaadhal Virus
Music Director: A R Rahman
released by: Sony Music
Price: Rs 45
Its true some of A R rahman's best tunes have been made for Kadhir. And Kaadhal Virus is no exception. The first song in the album, Vasundhara Das's Ye Ye Enna is a straight lift from Booty Call by All Saints, but intelligently Tamilised in a way that only Rahman can do.
With minimal use of instruments and a strong drom loop, this number's a definite bullseye. Vasundhara's vocals are laid back, chilled-out, and set the mood for the rest of the album. Sonnalum is a beautiful, very Rahmanesque number, lifted to sublime heights by Harini's flawless voice. And now let me rub my hands in glee and come to the most interesting number in the album. Vaan Nila is not exactly your surefire hit number, but its the album's most exciting track and packs in loads of panache. It ushers in a new sound to what has now become a stagnant scene with the same done-to-death tunes doing their rounds.
Fusion Jazz Rahman's favourite instrument, the saxophone finds an able ally in the piano, in what is one of the most refreshing experiments in a long time. Karthik and Srinivas have rendered this song to near perfection - one only wishes the mood in the vocals had been more lounge-ish and relaxed. Its always been a cheap thrill to nail the songs that rahman gets 'inspired' by. Several parts of this one - especially the seamless integration of the sax and the piano - bears an uncanny resemblance to Sting's Saint Augustine in Hell (Since when did Rahman start showing an affinity to Saints, huh!). If you're gonna pick up the tape, simply rewind Side A once you get to the end of it. yenthen Vaanin and O Kaadhalr on Side B are plain old regular. Plus you dont want to hear the auditory assault Baila More and lose that blissful feeling Side A created. Trust me.

the only good songs in the album are
1) Yenthan vanin - SPB+Swarnalatha
2) Yeh ennachu - V.das
3) the other song with Unni + harini, the rest of the songs are really bad, esp, the one butchered by Mano's horrible voice?, god, how can ARR let mano kill a tune :((

A follow-up note on that Econmic Times review. All Saints' Bootie Call has very little to do with Ye Ye. The fact is that ye ye is a hip hop kinda number and so is the All Saints number. Yes, there's a part in the All Saints' track which would remind you of the opening of Ye Ye, but that's a done-to-death kinda riff thats present in every other hip hop number.
And Sting's Saint Augustine in Hell has got nothing to do with Vaan Nila. Absolutely nothing. Trust me.

Karthik, UV & curses, listened to both Saint augustine to hell and bootie call.. bootie call's starting piece 'bring it now'... sounds a little bit like 'ye ye enna achu' but there ends the comparison.... I dont think its a straight lift as specified by the reviewer.... As for Sting, i couldnt understand as to how she correlated the two songs... I guess people think a lot before writing abt such comparisons or reviews...and our dear reviewer probably didnt....I have both these songs if anyone wants to check the comparison....

It has become a fashion for reviewers to say that "this song is from that and that one from this"! I feel that they do this to only show off their "musical prowess" which, they feel, I believe, might not be contested. No common man on the streets is gonna check these out. An most of these ARR bashers will have a field day with these comments. It is important to think before u ink. What was the editor doin'? A "straight lift" is a blatant accusation and deserves to be condemned downright. It is a blot on the credentials of the music composer. Can we get the person online and e-mail our views so that probably she might add a "CORRIGENDUM" in the next issue?

"Viral infections are of several types and one among them is Slow virus infection. Slow virus infection is where the progression of infection is slow but is persistent. Kaadhal Virus is a slowly infecting virus for sure. Though initially one may feel immune to it, after subsequent hearings, it invades the listener and slowly infects him without his knowledge.
Overall, Kaadhal virus is an average album with peppy dance numbers and soft melodies alternating. It may not meet the expectations built up due to the A.R.R.– Kadhir Combo and audio rights by SONY. Usually Kadhir and Rehman experiment a lot in their films. But here other than the FTV style song, nothing is new. Moreover Rehman introduces at least one new voice in his every album and here he has used all familiar voices."

Songs are decent, that too considering ARR's recent albums which do not do well that commercially.
This will do commercially well(I hope), but may not be upto to hiw own earlier mark.
The chorus which comes in Bailamore is some what similar to Lord of Rings background score(When Frodo Baggins reach Elves place). Could be a coincidence.
A decent effor from ARR.
