  Devadhai songs have been discussed in this forum before. aanaal yaarum SPB Charan-in kural paththi sollavE illai. I listened to the songs recently and feel that he is a valuable addition to TFM. Esp. since all we seem to be getting are people with horrible voices and/or diction. Witeh exception of UK & Hariharan.

  You are right.
  I liked his voice . The guy sounds like his Dad
  in his younger days . The higher octaves were
  done nicely . I guess another good singer is on his way . did u also notice the female, anuradha,in that song . She kind of resembled P.Susheela .

  Its not Anuradha. Her name is Sandhya. If I remember correctly Sandhya has sung a song in "iruvar" too. She has striking PS resemblence.

  Yes. Sandhya has sung 'pUngkodiyin punnagai' in iruvar. She is PSusheelaa's brother's daughter as well as her daughter-in-law.

  Overall the song is good. But that la la la la humming during the 2nd interlude by Sandhya is horrible. Sounds very raw.

  I see that you are back; I will write to you
  separately soon. For here: if SPB Charan's
  voice is like SPB's early voice, then I should
  listen to his songs. I loved SPB's early voice:
  it used to be plain sweet with no kirukkuththanam
  and kEli. Around 1975 or so, strange diseases
  struck SPB's voice: Maargazhi paniyil mangiya
  nilavil (KuLir juram); Unnai naan paarththadhu
  veNNilaa vELaiyil (Asthma); IdhazhE idhazhE thEn
  vENdum (Sex Addiction); Ninaiththu paarkkiREn
  ('Kaadhal thOlvi' psychosis). Appuram andha pazhaya
  GREAT voice pOyE pOyiduchchu (although the new voice
  was also great). It's good to know that 'that
  GREAT old SPB Voice' has come back in the form
  of Charan. Oh, how I love those old SPB songs
  such as "ponnendrum poovendrum thEnendrum solvEnO"
  "iraivan endroru kavinjan" and "muLLillaa rOjaa"!
  
  It's interesting to note that TMS's voice also
  went through a change similar to that of SPB's
  in the early part of SPB's carreer.

  About Charan, I saw/heard him singing in Atlanta last month with SPB, ans Shailaja. I could not evaluate his true voice because he was singing for Hariharan.

  I caught the SPB/Shailaja/Charan concert in San Jose. Charan has a great future if he wants it. Especially his rendition of "Vennilavae Vennilavae Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya" was amazing. Not to slight another singer, but Charan took the song to new heights because, I find Hariharan's voice too sleepy and low-key.
