I was always wondered how the MD comes up with weird chorus humming - e.g in the film jeans for the athisayam song we have "shahoosan" or something like that in the first interlude and then you have "ajooba" in the second interlude. I haven't seen Jeans yet but I am pretty sure this has nothing to do with the song situation. T. Rajendar used have "cucumber" in one of his songs. Netter please let me know about other weird hummings u have heard in other songs. IR uses a lot of new words like "jangu" , "jinga".

In the "adhisayam" song of Jeans the words used by the chorus is "Je vous aime". It means "I love you". The chorus comes in when the scene shifts to France.
"Ajooba" in Hindi means "Adhisayam" - and I think that comes on when the scene shifts to the Taj Mahal.

thanks for clarifying stuff on Jeans. I would have no way figured this out. That was an intelligent chorus line but unfortunately lots of people would not be able to figure out French words in a tamil song.

Sai Satheesh, remember a movie called Priya? It was filmed in Siangapore. IR used Malay words in the song,"En Uyir Neethanae". I happened to ask a Malay person about some of the lines:
"Avasanthae Macha Goomaraaya", she said it was the equivalent of "my heart blooms like a sunflower". I don't think this lady was pulling my leg, but if there are any Malay Tamils here they can tell us if I got the right info or not.

Also, in the old movie "Adhae Kangal" in one of the songs, MSV couldn't get the rhyming to work right so he asked TMS to improvise. TMS, a Sourashtrian, used the words "Sottujaa" and "Thonnavaa" from his native tongue.

Hi Guys,
Cntinuing on the same lines there are lines in the song "Thaalatudhe vaanam thalladudhe megam" from Kadal Meenagal. It goes some thing like "Ye...Kuriya kuriya kuriya sandhelavallum". I am not sure if it could be categorised as some language. Does anybody have to say anything about this?.

I think it was produced by a Sourasthrian, So he requested TMS to put Sourasthra lyrics in it.

TMS used the words which exactly fit into the situation

Song is
pombalE oruthi irunthaalam bhoothathai parthu bayanthaalam
ambalE oruthan irunthaanam avazukkuthunaiya nanthaanam

Female voice : thakaresh thakaresh thakaresh
TMS : arE thakkunako thakkunako thakkunako

"Thakaresh" -- payamaaka irukku
"thakkunako" -- payapatathE
"sodija" -- vittutupO
"sonagova" -- VittutupogathE

It really looks wierd without the proper tamil meaning.

There seems to be some back story for every indecipherable soound heard in songs. How about the line in the song,"Chittira Chevvaanam Sirikka Kandaen"? Jayachandran sings something that certainly doesn't sound like Tamizh.

Dear Udhaya,

The actual pharase in the song from 'Priya' is :-
"Awak cantik macam Bunga Raya" which means,

Awak - You
cantik - beautiful
macam - like
Bunga Raya - hibiscus (bunga means flower but here raya didn't carry any meaning n it's own!).

So the full meaning is : " You are beautiful like a hibiscus. "

By the way, hibiscus is the national flower of Malaysia!

regarding Muthu song
in the scene rajini, meena will lose their way and land up in a village called "Kuluvali" in kerala. The line is also "Kuluvali-lay muthu vaNNallO O" that means "(hasn't)muthu came to kulivali"...You don't need a malayalee to translate it he..hee..:-)

One of the worst humming IMHO is "Hilgore Hilgore, mangalare jangalre gori gori bhaiyya" from Minsara Kanavu song, "Poopookum Osai". May be it got some relevant meaning (like the Jeans song).

There are two other chorus interludes I want to bring up. One in the Dil Se song, "Jiya Jale" that is in Malayalam. The second one is the Thenali song, "Aalangati mazhai" - I am pretty sure that means something in Sinhalese.

the malayalam lines in jiya jale/nenjinile...(sung by m.g.sreekumar, lyrics: girish puthencherry)

punjiri thanji konjiko, munthari mutholi chinthiko, majani varna chundari vavee, dhankanakka thakathimi adum thanga nilave...

well, even if i am a malayalee...i don't know the exact meanings of all those words..(am an NRI malayalee...so didn't get the oppurtunity to learn malayalam at school)
but i'll try...
punjari means laugh (or smile)...konjiko is very difficult to translate (at least for me)...it's something 'sweet' children often do...a kind of typical childish behavior....so the first three words actually mean, behave childish (sweet) thru laughing (smiling)...
munthiri mutholi chinthiko...munthiri means grapes...oli means sound...sound of small 'stones'(pearls)...chinthiko...don't know..
manjani varna chundari vave...
varna(m) means colours...chundari...is a beautiful girl(i think it's actually a slang...cause the real word for beautiful is 'sundari')...vave...is a word normally used for 'baby'...but is also used as a word u tell to ur girlfriend...
dhankanaka thakathimi adum thanka nilave...
thakathimi adum (dance to the rythm thakathimi)...thanka..means pure gold...nilave...u all know what nilavu means, don't u? that slight beautiful light u see early in the morning or in the night, when the stars are shining...

well, that's all...bamm...it was so difficult to try to translate that small piece... i admire those people who always translate all those tamil songs into english....sentence by sentence...great job they are doing!

Dear Kupps,

I just had chance to listen to the other part of the song in Priya over the radio.(Very hard to find the song here..) So, if i'm not mistaken the lines are..

" hati kita tak ada dua dua,
badan kita saja dua dua "

Where :
Hati - Heart
kita - we, our, ours
tak - no [tak is a slang for TIDAK means no]
ada - have
dua - two
badan - body
saja - only

Which the line simply means.. 'ullam rendum ondru nam uruvam thAnE rendu'

Hope this helped u guys. Do pass me some other songs with Malay words in it. I'll try to translate it for u guys.
