Subbu, Kalai,
This is one aspect which has always puzzled me!
PS sings with 100% correct pronunciation in Tamil (leave alone ordinary Tamil, but even 'senthamizh' as in Raja Rani songs, a feat unimaginable by many Tamils of today!!)But when she speaks Tamil, it is soaked in Telugu accent, with full of 'mazhalai', like any normal Andhrite settled in Madras, who doesn't get much opportunity in his/her profession to polish his/her Tamil. My reading is, perhaps people make a clear distinction between profession and personal life. While they go all out to achieve perfection in their profession, in personal life , perhaps, they don't want to strain themselves by changing the accent/ pronunciation which comes naturally to them!
My analysis may be off the mark! You may like to comment!

PS excels even in Brahmanical thamizh (aduththathu ambujam, KetteLey ange, Ada abishtu nekkum nokkuma kalyanam), Gramathu thamizh etc etc.. But Pesum thamizh is always so so..! Still not able to realize how this gap persists? Not only PS, other AP based singers have this "speaking thamizh diffculty" incl SPB.
BUt I take it as: when a Andraite sings songs in sudhha thamizh, why not a Tamilian speaks (at least speaks) nalla thamizh :-)))

I think the problem is that all these Telugu singers (PS, SJ, SPS, SPB, Jikki etc etc) have sung in all the four south indian languages and as such they remember all these thousands of words from all these languages and to channelize them and use them properly so as to speak good language is rather difficult.
In day to day business, they don't have to practice rigorous thamizh, because people around don't bother if one letter is pronounced bad or something else is omitted etc as long as they are not unpardonable mistakes.
However, when it comes to singing a song. They know what exactly they are going to sing/recite/say - it is right there in front of them. Since they know the right and wrong of pronunciations, they do it perfectly. In the unscripted daily life, this exercise is not that easy. There is always an undercurrent of Telugu accent/words that come naturally to them.
This is true with others too. Many many tamilians settled in Andhra just cannot get over the strong thamizh accent.
But I like this statement Subbu made: "BUt I take it as: when a Andraite sings songs in sudhha thamizh, why not a Tamilian speaks (at least speaks) nalla thamizh :-)))" - very genuine remark.

After 51 years of experience in Industry as a singer, she coudnt get the control over the spoken language. This cant be justified. But, everybody have thier own strengths and weekness. It is PS's weekness.
Recently I was watching an interview of Sandhya. She also agreed that her mother-in-law’s speaking tamil is not fluent. She told that, “She don’t speak much.Thats why, it happens. Comparatively she improved now, because she used to play with her grandchildren”.

Raj/Kalai,
Do you have the song "endhan pon vaNNamay anbu poo vaNNmay"? version by PS from "naan vazh vaipen". It was in mid 70's, I guess. Pls post it here and send across in our mails.
I heard that TMS aruged with IR on the tune of this song and changed in many places. If you listen to PS version, it will be diffenet when she sings "unnai kaNden adhil uravai kaNden". Later story is that TMS sodhapified the song from "Kavari maan" and had to pave way for the split.

thirutheril Varum silayo by SPB&PS(lyric Kannadhasan)
Aahayam mele(KJY-Lyric Vaali)
Endhan Pon Vaname(TMS/PS Lyric kannadasan)
Great work by IR & Using PS aptly
Recently i saw "Ganga-Gowri" old movie
directed by B.R.Bandhulu
The main reason y the songs werent that hit was it didnt have PS
Atleast it was tolerable (SJ for Jayanthi)
but LRE for Jayalalitha was .............>?>>>>
any comments on this

Naan Vaazha veipen had one KJY number for Rajini (Aaahayam leay paadhalam keezhey), a dance number with Aparna. It had one more SPB solo for Sivaji, right (KRV's birthday song).
Ganga Gowri had one hit song PBS+SJ "andharangam naanariven"... nothing else was remembarable!
Raj, LRE had sung many songs for JJ. KVM as well as MSV used her to sing for JJ (though the prime singer for JJ was PS).
- Ninathdai nadathiye mudippavan (Nam Naadu)
- Naam oruvarai oruvar sandhipOm (Kumarikottam - Excellent song; I guess all Kumarikottam songs were sung by LRE)
- Naan ezhu vasiley eLanee vithava (Nam Naadu)
- Aasai irukku nejil aasai irukku (En annan)
Songs of LRE with western/tappanguthu type are ok, but songs with classical touch - Jesus !! Just listen to KPNagarajan movies like Rajaraja chozhan where LRE sings for Lakshmi (with TMS, SPB, MR Vijaya)...:-)))

Raj and Subbu:
azhagiya mEgangaL (in Amruthavarshini raga) and aadhinaathan kEtkindraan are wonderful songs by SJ in Ganga Gowri. I am sure there are more good songs. Perhaps Saravanan can give us details.

U know something interesting... In "maatu kaara velan", there a lovely tri-duet song by TMS, PS and LRE for MGR and the heroines (JJ and Lakshmi). The songs starts with MGR1 + JJ with the voice TMS & LRE and the same pallavi repeats with MGR2 + Lakshmi with the voice TMS & PS. But in teh charaNams, PS gives voice for JJ and LRE for Lakshmi. It was really funny that even the great directors like Pa. Neelakandan did not notice this.
A great discovery right hahahahahaha
This type of mistakes repeated later also in Kai Kodukkum Kai. Song "KaNNukuLLe YaarO" sung by PS and SP Sailaja. Both the voices were used for both Revathi and Rajalakshmi. Another example from MarumaLe Vazhga. Song "Deepangal aayiram deviyar et-trum Deepavali" sung by PS and SP Sailaja. Here too, both singers for Suhasini and Vadivukkarasi.
It may be due to lack of time or carelessness????
But look at the song from Bhaama Vijayam. "Aani muthu vaangi vandhen" sung by PS, LRE and SoolamangaLam Rajalakshmi. It was very clear that PS for Sowcar, LRE for Jayanthi and SR for Kanchana, througout the song, even in the in-between hummings by all 3 singers. I think it all depends on the involvement by the director and his team!!

hi subbu,
We've put that song "ezhanda Pazham" telugu version in Our Group
i'll mail u the Details
Reg LRE for JJ i didnt mean she didnt sing for JJ
but songs like aamano samiyo etc r ok but not duets(romantic songs etc)
& the Triet in Maatukkara Velan is "POo vaitha poovaiku Pookal Sondhama" very Nice Song indeed

From the point of voice-match, I would agree that PS was much closer than LRE. May be the very early songs like Pal manapal (Avasara police 100), Naam oruvarai oruvar sandhipOm (Kumarikottam) and few more of LRE were good matches for JJ. But the diff was seen much whn you look at "Poo vaitha poovaikku" (watch the song seq, not just listen), then you see the difference.
You know something, our Mastero IR thought that SP Sailaja' voice was best suited for JJ :-))) All songs for JJ in Nadhiyayai thedi vandha kadal, MaNipoor maamiyaar (film not released but cassette was) were sung by SPS !!
