Hey TFM fans,
One of the great jobs I think we can do is visit some classical musical sites and e-mail to the person hosting the site. See I did this once and the rsponse is as follows.

Oh man, what a gmistake ! It must read "Popularizing IR to the western audiences throI-net"
Ok The content is as follows:
I am interested as you are in Mozart and I accept that he is one of the brilliant composers ever born. But, to ou may I please notify the existence of another genius of our age ? He composed the 1992 symphony for London Philharmonic Orchestra and has the distinction of being the only asian to have accomplished it. His name is Ilaiyaraja and he is from India. I would like to know if we can share some of your thoughts throu good e-mail rapport as his music is very much different from the regular western classical. In fact it is basically with high Orchestration and soft melodies. He has composed music for more than 780 films and the number is still going high. I am an ardent fan of his and would like to know if you are interested in a
good exchange. Please reply to the address given below :

Thank you

THE RESPONSE I GOT:
Dear Mr.Venkatraman!
We are commercially interested in Mozart, but we plan to change our Mozart-website. Then we may place a link to other composers on our page.
So please send URL of Ilaiyaraja-website. This update will come at the end of december.
Kind regards from Vienna/Austria
Gruesse aus Wien / S privetom is Veni! Heinz Riemer
The problem is that i do not know many URL's which have mainly "Western Calssical" type songs of IR except Anand Mahadevan's (guru). I would like to know how seriously we may pursue this. I need responses, info and ideas from TFM lovers
regards

Murali Shankar: I think that you must wait for his Symphony and see if there is a lot of 'Mozart' influence before posting to these people, as they are a COMMERCIAL MOZART SITE, not one for all Western Classical Music(even though they are going to add a composers link). In HTNI and NBW, IR has used Western bits from Mozart, Bach and Beethoven, so I'm not sure if he will quite fit into the Western Composers Selection, as his music can be classed as FUSION. Also, the parallel of his Western based compositions with the ORIGINAL ones of the the Great Composers may be a bit of a Clash. He has composed for films and done two Musical albums, as opposed to the numerous compositions of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach e.t.c....
The other point is that This SYMPHONY is a 'figment' of one's imagination until it is actually released, so isn't it a bit Presumptuous to be marketing IR on something that only a few people have ACTUALLY heard?

I don't think that there are any "bits" and pieces of either Mozart, Bach or Beethoven in NBW.
In HTNI too, there is no direct quotation, EXCEPT the piece "I had a conversation with Bach", where Maestro chose to fuse a Bach movement with a carnatic violin piece, to depict a conversation with Bach. This quotation was totally appropriate and I consider this one of the great compositions of IR.

Dear hmmm...,
This is just an attempt to let the westerners know what India has in its store. Since IR's stuff is the best they can understand I chose him. If you feel ARR should get the same treatment, probably my grandson will do it.:)))

i know from atleat one of the ones who have posted based on previos postings, that she has friend who plays for ARR or something like that and always has a negative posting about IR.
i think such personal biases should not prevent us from doing what whe think is right, just and fair. So, Murlai shankar lets get on with this effort.

Krishna: Now who's making a personal attack? Did I even make any comment about ARR being introduced to that site? NO!?!?! Just because I know someone who works for ARR, and HAS WORKED FOR IR - always speaks VERY VERY highly of IR, why should I always have something bad to say about him? I was just making my opinions known, as someone who has been doing do for the last year or so.....I WOULD KINDLY REQUEST YOU TO READ ALL MY POSTINGS BEFORE SAYING THAT I "AWLAYS HAVE SOMETHING NEGATIVE TO SAY ABOUT IR"......
Ravi, can he get away with this comment? I'm taking it personally. Just because I am a fan of ARR, IR, MSV, G Ramanathan and so many others, e.t.c, why should my comments be dis-regarded like this? Should one only be an IR fan and never say anything against him to be considered knowledgeable in this forum?
I feel that my comments are to do with the fact that the SYMPHONY is NOT released - A FACT, may I add and that IR MAY NOT FIT WITH THE WESTERN COMPOSERS, he does FUSION, between Western and Eastern.....There is a SAAYAL of Mozart and Bach, e.t.c in HTNI and NBW, which will be picked up by all, it is true, IR is a MASTER of Fusion and has created numerous great works, but mustn't we wait for the SYMPHONY before jumping in so DEEP?

YGeetha:
I can understand how hurt you must feel. But to be honest even I was a little irked by the words 'figment' and 'presumptuous' and 'marketing' (IR, that is). I had to read it a couple of times before I understood that you meant no insult to IR. This does not mean that I am trying to justify Krishna's comments. But I thought you might feel a little mollified if you knew your words were susceptible to misinterpretation.

I agree with Srinath. Saying that the symphony is a figment of imagination esp, when so much has been said and WRITTEN about it has a very negative intonation.

MR. Murali Sankar .G.
He might have got chances to score for some movies as u have quoted. We appreciate... But,
Why do u want to talk about ANTS when everybody is talking about ELEPHANTS ?
- From: SK (@ 66.57.14.197)
on: Tue Dec 9 22:04:49 EST 2003
And, this ELEPHANT is now seriously into making HIs next symphony--THIRUVASAKAM IN SYMPHONY-- and if you have been following the thread in the above name in this forum, all discussion may shift there! Why dont you all come over to 'our house' and let us all discuss it over there!
IIR is counting on ordinary fans and well-wishers like you and I to have this symphony made. I also would like to take up this time to remind you all that there is an US Team already working in raising funds for this project. Please visit www.thiruvasakaminsymphony.com/us_team.html.for additional details.
"ALukku aindhu dollar"!!
If only every Tamil in USA send in just $5, TiS will become a reality and we will have a symphony on our hands to proclaim with authenticity. I will add more on hearing the response for this in this thread!

Found a suitable thread in the archives to put this:
Seems like in those days like 1998, fans were eagerly spreading the word of IR' music. Today, i did a search "Ilyaraja" and found this link:
http://us.indiantelevision.com/interviews/y2k4/executive/balki.htm
Mr. Balki has such sincere enthusiasm that I am going to make a predicition and people like him in the industry can make efforts to work towards this idea:
I believe the future of internet is internet 2 or something 3D on super bandwith and it is only a decade away. IR' music could become as ubiquitous as this internet, how u ask. Ok, look at internet ads: one of the fastest growing industries in the future. But, how will the mightiest companies grab unhesitant attention? Thru the 30 sec music.
This is one of the best applications of IR' music: Interludes, Prelude as ad music, Balki is talking of tunes, that is secondary only. The main will be ad versions of IR' breaks in songs.
Also reade this description of non-Indian origin: see how they perceive this:
- From: Gyan (@ 4.158.117.191)
on: Sun Jun 27 22:26:29 EDT 2004
here it is: (doesn't it mean, that a much commercial perspective of IR' instrumentalism has limitless demand by the ad industry?!!!)
................the music of ilaiyaraaja, besides containing many musics, it can be a good object of reflections and meditations on the form, on its consume, for an eventual, possible expansion........showing models, rare formulae, unthinkable for the western music song world or western cinema........his film songs feature a metrics that is strictly linked to the images, to the atmospheres of the movie.....the movie itself appears to be composed by a myriad of narrative video clips, which in turn give the song an ³opening² towards other musical forms.........a moving form, that shows us its facets, its various parts...........an open form that is strictly linked to the inspiration of the moment, ready to welcome anything in a surprising structure, enriched by a, still so strong, indian tradition, where rhythm, melody, devotion and surprise travel together..........moving in places where style and form can be continually re discussed, while still following a logic, a narration.........itıs almost like a kaleidoscopic song, full of rules, but also rich in expressive possibilities..........keeps moving......a vedic violin..........
