Friends,
I am an ardent Hard Core, I mean really Hard Core fan of the great (sorry, the greatest), the one and only Ilayaraja. He is the only composer I listen to (sometimes I listen to his kids' works) and I almost worship him. Tears of ecstasy have flown from eyes many times, sometimes, I do "Namaskarams" thinking of him, and most of the times, it is spontaneous, involuntary.
I mean, come on, he is the greatest genius ever, even if you consider the geniuses from all the fields.
The purpose of this thread is, I am interested in knowing about the other HCIRFs visiting the forum. I know for sure, there are fans like SPM, NagaS, Jag, Athi..to name a few. There used to be guys like Srinath, MPR, Shanmugam Murugappan, eden, and the likes..but I don't get to see much of them these days.
Are you an HCIRF?? How is IR's music affecting you...can you tell me about the feeligns that you get and the actions that you do when you listen to his songs??
And yeah, ROTFL, Whynot, Bharath and the likes, I would take it to be a nice act of decency if you don't show up in this thread. I am not interested in any of your "objective" or "neutral" views, as I said, this is just for HCIRFs.

I hope you don't object to my posting. I wish to emphasize that I am a True HCIRF although I appreciate others as well.
To keep it short- I consider myself privileged to have grown up in an era of IR's music. Most of his songs have a special significance to me and his songs rekindle my thoughts and often take me to my childhood days.

i am with u - i am such a diehard IR fan that I have literally stopped listening to other mediocre md songs - it is not because of my intolerance - just because i have been so much fascinated with the variety and melodies of the greatest IR !!!
IR conquers the world right from annakili to Kaasi......

Hai guys,
I too like most of you grew up with IR's music and all these days I dint even had to think of anyother MD's music.....but recently I came to US to pursue my masters....as I was in my college orchestra(singer) in India....I was really enthused to find an orchestra here too.....when I went for the practise I found that I dint know even most of the famous Hindi film songs as I had never even thought abt. listening beyond IR.....I had always thought I haven't listened not even 50% of IR's composition....unfortunately not many tamils arnd here so I'm not appealing to the audience if I sing in tamil....but still I did manage to sing kanne kalai mane's hindi version....nice to be in touch with u guys....

I guess as long as IR fans dont bring in other MDs things will be fine here. If you do have to compare, just say today's MDs rather than mentioning names. The moment you start mentioning names those guys will be swarming all over the place.
coming to the topic, I would consider myself to be a HCIRMF, where M stands for music. To me he is the greatest ever in TFM. I too grew up with his music, his music "talks" to me. No other MD has done that to me like IR.
more later..

ROTFL. How can one say that IRs achievements are greater than say those of C V Raman's or M s Subbalaxmi or other legends in their respective fields?? This statement of yours makes no sense to me.
BTw there have been a few other composer's close to or as good as Ilayaraja. Ilayarja is a real genius, but he definitely isn't the only genius even in the music field. It is one thing to say that you like him the best, and another to insist he is superior to everyone else, as if it is some axiom.

Vimal,
Thanks for mentioning my name as an example for HCIRF. Listening to IR's music has been regular part of my life and even now I am listening to
Enakul Oruvan song as I am writing this. Listening to his music is the easiest way of overcoming stress for me. Whenever I feel depressed, lonely etc, listening to his music really cheers me up and I am overwhelmed with emotion, joy and nostalgia (I am not getting the right words). I also would suggest you to go to the raajangahm discussion forum. Many people have written what I wanted to write about IR's music.

pAmaran..I should feel insulted right ? :) these days these pages have become very juvenile, not necessarily because of young people, but because of some biased old people. I am not surprised why many old timers dont show up here anymore. I am not at all enthusiastic to participate here as before. I have built a good stereo system over a period of time and am enjoying many IR songs all over again. I can now hear the bass lines more clearly..No time to post :) Did you know that there is an interesting bass line for the antha vAnatha pOl song in chinna kounder which I am hearing right now ?
vimal..asked about recent IR albums..I really like kAsi and azhagi..but I wish he did more movies..but looks like he is sending them off Yuvan's ways I am not sure I like the young fellows music..but many people seem to like that..So I have started to collect old IR albums on LP..Thats where the hobby stands..Yes..my advice to IR fans..listen to his songs on good system so that you can hear all the instruments ..especially the low bass..Just relax, dim the lights and sip your fav beverage..Never mind those detractors here..let them enjoy typing and chatting with fellows of their ilk..But you will be in musical bliss :)

Thanks guys,
hihi, I have been coming to this forum since 1999, I still remember it used to be a lot of fun, lots of IR (read: music) fans, and lots of knowledgeable discussions... Glory days!!! I still remember the Srinath vs Srikanth fights, there used to be rajaG, Sathiyakeerthi, there was this lady from London called Geeta Yogachandran(ARRF, but very knowledgable)..and lots. I still remember the fights that I used to have with her...it was all fun. But now you have all arai-trowsers and kiddos wanting their names on the cyberspace.
Anyway, back to the discussion: AVR, I called IR the greatest ever genius because of his ease in any field of music, and I don't have to cite example here, I think. Trust me, from what I have seen/heard/learnt, I can convincingly say that IR is the greatest ever genius. But, it is all my very humble opinion.
arun_uk, got your point, but my definition of an HCIRF is different....
tigger, nice point.
whenever I see a posting in favour of my idol, I just blush... but seriously, if we can select the best HCIRF, my vote would definitely be for SPM. He has been in all the IR related threads for a long time, and he is as ever-faithful as can be.

I am a HCIRF also. I beleve that the great IR has made the largest most long lasting contribution to TFM regardless of what anybody else says.

for me to accept IR's music took me a couple of years. very different melody and sounds from the fantastic melodious malayalam film music of the 70s. i had just moved to Chennai then when annakkilli was the biggest event there! anyway, once i got hooked there was nothing better than IR's music. today i still listen even thought most of the sentiments and memories of the times are broken.
IR is beyond doubt an enigma, the likes of which we have not seen. i am waitin for the day when we will see orchestra's render orchestral versions of the Maestro's works for a global audience. and these orchestras should come from India and not from abroad.

Hi. I am not a HCIRF, but I am posting bcos someone mentioned I shud not show up at this thread and this is an exercise of democracy to convince myself & others that I can show up here if I wanted to.
It's great that HCIRFs are identifying themselves here. Cos many claim they r jus fans and not HCIRFs in other threads. It's all good to have a thread reserved for worshipping so u won't see it spilling elsewhere including the most irrelevant threads.
And I'd hate to spoil the mood of the party. So pretend u never saw me here and continue the prayers.
btw, I wud not have turned up here if someone did not mention things like "But now you have all arai-trowsers and kiddos wanting their names on the cyberspace"....if u wanna court trouble, dont whine when u have it in ur hands. Making statements & personal attacks like tat does not appear as very mature to me. Don't feel tat getting a room for urself is gonna make it ok for u to hurl abuses at others. Cos if ur gonna continue those kind of personal attacks, u can rest assured tat before long ur party's gonna be meeting a premature end (tat's common sense, isnt it)
So I'll take my leave now in the hope I do not have to return.

Me too! I have about 250 CDs of Ilayaraaja - When I go back to Madras on vacation from the US, I spend at least 2 days each visit searching for Ilayaraaja's albums that I do not have. I listen to his music everyday. I just love everything about him and his music.
